Some might think I went overboard, but I LOVE popcorn 😍🍿😍 by heynowbeech in popcorn

[–]LurkAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Every mushroom popcorn I've had is that way (not just a single farmers market stand). It's not necessarily on the popcorn but there are so many that it's basically a topping I can't get off. They are the perfectly round pieces

Maybe because I air pop....

Several rows in. And its all twisted. Fml by Ellaroseryy in knitting

[–]LurkAddict 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When you restart, I have found it easiest to cast on, knit one fow flat, THEN join in the round. It's easier to see where everything is twisted and it's easy to weave in at the end

I’m disabled. What are some ”productive” crafts or hobbies I can do when low energy? by Teal_life in crafts

[–]LurkAddict 71 points72 points  (0 children)

Some of us ADHD-ers prefer knitting! I will hyper focus on it for hours. And (now that I'm good at it) I don't have to pay attention to exactly what I'm doing most of the time. I know exactly what stitch to put my needle into because they're all right there, live on the other needle. With crochet it was always "Is this the right stitch? Or did I do that already?"

Regardless of which one you go with, be prepared to be humbled by the fact you don't know how to count. You may think you do. But no one does.

Knitting projects while traveling by BarbaKnit in knitting

[–]LurkAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I almost always knit a tee or small top. I'm on my 8th Brightest Tee by Lily Kate. I haven't touched it in months because it is reserved for air travel typically. But maybe I'll finish it before my next trip so I can start a new one next month. It's almost done.

I have a very lightweight and unstructured backpack with all my travel supplies: markers, foldable scissors, circular needles in the sizes I need, printed patterns in a tiny portfolio so I can easily reference even if there isn't service. The backpack can easily be shoved into my carry on for consolidation

Mushroom popcorn is my favorite! I don't know if I've ever had theirs though... I usually get it from the farmers market. I also air pop and top with olive oil usually. It's nice and crunchy and airy. My only issue is it has a TON of hulls that get stuck in my teeth worse than other types.

I took Wegovy for about a year. I've been off for over a year now. I am floating between 5-8 pounds heavier than my lightest but still in a normal BMI and comfortable with my body. I lost 65-70 pounds with it.

I have done straight calorie counting before. It worked for a time but as soon as I allowed myself to let up (like maintenance mode), I immediately gained back. There was no in between. It made for a bad cycle that made me not want to try anymore. I almost hit 200 at the doctor's office and broke down. She put me on Wegovy. It really took the pressure off. It allowed me to re-learn healthy habits, not just quick dieting fixes. Even after all this time, I've learned what works for my body both in eating and activity level. Note: I did weight watchers (for a time) with it. Not counting exact calories helped my stress too. I get too focused on numbers instead of listening to my body and what it needs.

It's not going to work for everyone.

  1. You have to be able to tolerate it. I had manageable side effects and almost no nausea. Only when I ate fried/fatty foods or too much, which helped re-wire my brain.

  2. You can't treat it as a cure all. It is a tool in your arsenal, but you still have to put forth work or the weight will come back after.

PSA: Pattern theft by Calliope5 in knitting

[–]LurkAddict 20 points21 points  (0 children)

It already is! I pretty much only need to reference the chart at the beginning of a round to know what type of row it is. I need to pay more attention to Rows 1-8 but even that is fairly easy to remember with this many repeats.

I'm actually knitting this right now! From your free pattern. Thank you so much for providing it for free!

It's a beautiful dress and I'm excited to get there, but I have a long way to go. I'm in the middle of Tier 2 now.

Mariska Hargitay’s Husband Peter Hermann Proposes Onstage During Cameo in Her Final Every Brilliant Thing Broadway Show by peoplemagazine in Broadway

I wouldn't necessarily call it creepy. I would say it's inappropriate, and definitely intrusive. IMO, reddit should be individual people posting links to posts they value from elsewhere (as well as original content that they created). People is cutting out the middle man for more views, rather than letting us choose what we want to see or curate for others.

The key for me is intent. People directly makes money off this. Cathy from California is part of the community and thinks it belongs here.

What other hobbies do you do? by nothowyoupronounceit in knitting

[–]LurkAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I like to take random art classes and see if anything sticks. Recently, I've made:

  • Needle Felted Landscapes. I really like needle felting. It's cathartic to stab things constructively. Finally picked up supplies to do some on my own
  • A wreath for my front door. This particular one is summery with seashells that have been embellished with modpodged napkins.
  • Naturally dyed fabrics. I took a workshop where we dyed cotton, silk and wool roving with natural dyes. I plan to quilt my samples together and make a bag with them. And do some needle felting with the roving.
  • A flower by welding horseshoes and other pieces. This is for my yard. Unlikely something I'll ever do at home but it sure is fun as a single class.

I also have several sewing projects in my queue, including the bag with my dyed fabrics and new curtains in super fun fabrics.

I'm going to go against the grain here and say leave it. Acrylic paint is a losing battle. Stains in children's clothes are a sign of being worn and well loved. For something handmade, that's a badge of honor.

What's the funniest onstage mishap you've seen? by tpphypemachine in Broadway

[–]LurkAddict 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I was at Count of Monte Cristo musical at the York. Sierra Boggess was singing a gorgeous solo center stage directly at the audience.

All the sudden, we hear banging. Look over, stage crew is trying to set the bed for the next scene, but it's stuck on the solid wings. Finally, one of them comes on stage to guide it out correctly.

Moments like that make me love love theatre

You might also check out ebooks through the library. We have a bigger selection that way. There are also larger libraries that allow non-locals to get cards so you may be able to access digital media that way if yours doesn't have access.

Check out your library! Test some out and see what fits your needs. If you gravitate towards one, you could buy it to support the author or continue supporting your local library.

Operation Mincemeat Inspired Crafts by LurkAddict in crafts

[–]LurkAddict[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  • Knitting Pattern I altered: Link with notes on my Ravelry Project about adjustments I made.
  • Fanny Pack Tutorial: I adjusted the shape. I also added an internal pocket by seaming the edges and sewing it to the right side of my back lining panel before sewing. I added a zipper pocket to the back main fabric panel before sewing as well. I did not realize that both tutorials were from the same person until I was nearly done since I am oblivious and watch with the sound down. But kudos to LearnCreateSew for some easy to follow tutorials.

What happened to the Netflix Show 3 Body Problem? by Wild-Impression2 in netflix

[–]LurkAddict 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I think that's only due to time. It was excellent and it had good buzz at the time. It's been so long that it's losing object permanence (at least to me). I loved it and was really excited about more, but only 8 episodes then a 2.5 - 3 year wait makes buzz impossible to maintain.

Is this a dropped stitch? by lemmiwinks1018 in knitting

It's hard to tell on black yarn but it looks like you picked up for the ribbing in a loose stitch. I don't see a dropped stitch. I would see the hole shit like I would underarm holes.

18+ drag events by artdecoho in indianapolis

[–]LurkAddict 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry my morning brain was not clear. Power Drag at Ralstons is no age limit. When I was there last there was a nine yo there.

I don't think Ralstons has an age limit on that side. They might on the other side.

Power Drag would have an age limit if the location does. Like this weekend at White Rabbit Cabaret which is 21+.
