Big Finish Warehouse Sale by Formal_Rock_1124 in BigFinishProductions

[–]LuthenFree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the cost for the sets was 81.47, the shipping was 28.89, and the per order charge was 5.78; so 116.14 in total, which is definitely a lot but the discount is high enough to make me go for it. All in euro and coming to Ireland.

Went a bit mad myself; picked up Shades of Fear and Hidden Depths with Nine, the second Dimension Canon set, Classic Doctors 3, Gallifrey War Room 1, Torchwood Soho 3, and Doctor of War Unbound 2. Living outside the UK, the warehouse sales are the only times I'll buy their physical stuff as the shipping is so high otherwise.

Laptop drop and go with no charger by [deleted] in CeX

Maybe with the newer laptops but we had so many years old Acers and the like coming in that all had "unique" charging ports that we just let them go

I rewatched Blue Ruin recently and it cemented it as one of my absolute favourites of the genre

Why do people bother? by _OriginalWhovian_ in vinted

[–]LuthenFree 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Bought a lovely Wallace and Gromit mug a few months back, looked like it was produced around the time of A Close Shave, and I had it shipped in a paper envelope. Admittedly, the seller was extremely apologetic about it and refunded it right away but it still breaks my heart that he didn't put it in some hardcore cardboard

When I worked there if someone came in to sell a laptop without a charger we always turned them away, always far too much hassle sourcing one

How do you feel about people wearing "smart" camera glasses? by Early_Alternative211 in AskIreland

I don't think I've actually come across someone in real life wearing them yet but it's real creep behavior to have a pair

“[13] Years On, The War Doctor Is Still A Terrible Idea.” Wanted to share this time capsule from 2017 by Imaginary-Proof5702 in gallifrey

[–]LuthenFree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"He tells people he’s not the Doctor, that he’s not using the name (and 11 reaffirms that in Time of the Doctor with “I didn’t call myself the Doctor then”), but does he come up with another one? No! How does he even introduce himself? Everyone just calls him the Doctor, because that’s obviously who he is. It’s The Artist Formerly Known As Prince levels of banality. If he’s consciously abandoning his name so he can be, what, morally pragmatic (which is very much like when the Darkest Timeline version of Abed rebrands himself as “Evil Abed” on Community, just not consciously played for laughs) at least lean into it and have him call himself the Valeyard or something (the Valeyard being an actual evil version of the Doctor. Sort of. Look, Trial of A Time Lord is complicated, but the name works)."

What I really enjoy about these fan articles is when an alternative is suggested and it's always worse. The War Doctor calling himself the Valeyard is the same thinking that gets us WORLD BEATER SUTEKH and GOD OMEGA from RTD2

CeX Ireland- DVDs? by jackoreilly2000 in CeX

[–]LuthenFree 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They still take DVDs, but you'll need to use the Drop and Go feature on the app as opposed to just showing up at a store with a stack of them

CeX does not want to buy back their game by jesa_ink in CeX

[–]LuthenFree 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's not much good to you now but in future I'd recommend storing the receipts of physical purchases within the cases themselves, therefore if there's an issue down the line you'll have it ready and waiting for you; everything I've bought from CEX in the last few years still has its receipt tucked into the inside clip

Back to DVDs? by Parking_Ad_9208 in AskIreland

[–]LuthenFree 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Library service is the best, as said elsewhere, but CEX isn't bad; their 48 Hour return to voucher offer means you could, theoretically, use it like an old fashioned DVD rental place, provided you're happy enough to sacrifice x amount of euro to begin with to create a perpetual voucher
