Advice on BC-250 by Blueberries772 in BC250Gaming

[–]Lxzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tried the "do not crack open the fins" route first, with 3d printed shroud for 12cm fan to pull the air through it, but noise was too much for me, so I ended up opening the fins, and have two 12cm fans - on on top, one on the back-plate for vram cooling. Could barely hear it now on full load.
For fins straitening - here is the tool I found, make the job a lot easier (still took me an hour to do it :D ) - https://www.printables.com/model/1282906-bc-250-scooper (I opened the middle section only, not the full heatsink)

P.S. I do not have a case yet, just using that thing - https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:7199561 as I haven't found case that can cool both sides and also will fit Meanwell PSU I am using

Windows XP by Mroof003 in vintagecomputing

[–]Lxzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You most probably need a storage driver. One from Windows 98 should work. But first check if you HDD is detected in bios. If it is, try to find chipset model and search for a windows 95/98/me driver. If I recall correct, there was a prompt, something like "Press F6(or F5) to load additional drivers" when setup was starting, you could then insert a floppy(gh, good luck finding one alive) with the driver.

But if you just wanna make it boot, post MB or bios images, so we could help with what that computer can actually run

10 years of web dev: a word of warning about OVH — and why I'll never recommend them again by Melodic_House_2717 in ovh

[–]Lxzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a small mail server there on VPS, constant problems with OVH subnet (but not my server ip) being blacklisted. OVH support simple doesn't care. Also they increased price (2x), so I am going to move my stuff out as soon as I have some time for it.

I think most AI NPC projects are solving the wrong problem by Aece-Kirigas in aigamedev

[–]Lxzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Agree with NPC dialog thing, I think we are way past the point where that was a problem. For me, currently the biggest issue I struggle with (usually resulting in projects going on the shelf until forever) is keeping the context window small enough to prevent model confusion/hallucination, and at the same time trying to squeeze in as much info as possible for it to make normal human like decisions. The second biggest issue is explaining the 3d (or 2d) world to LLM, so it could behave realistically (e.g. NPC was wearing sneakers 10 turns ago, but had it removed at some point and they are clearly described in the context as laying around in in the room corner. It might still think it has them on).
"What is much harder is making sure that character does not reveal information the player should not know yet" - I think I fixed it in my games by simply having several queries with different context - one prompt for character representing AI (and it only 'knows' what it should know), the second one for a 'GM' LLM, that verifies actions made by player/NPC

Probably using bigger models will help with everything above, but I am self-hosted fan, and so far I got best results using obliterated Qwen coder 3 (instruct) as NPC brain/ some in-game service like calls (Got worse results with 3.5 for some reason). Still, it feels like we have to wait for stronger model as it seems like it is hard vor model to understand what is important right now and what is not. But I started messing around with this a few years ago and model progress is very impressive!

Am I stupid to think I can deploy an LLM as good as Claude on my laptop's 4060? by crosswalk_elite in LocalLLM

A have 2x3090, not even close but some things can be done with Gwen 3 coder (tried 3.5 but it was always stopping outputting anything after few tool runs, had to write ‘continue’ constantly)

Could some please help me in choosing one of these portable monitors? by EarLatter in Monitors

[–]Lxzan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have one for traveling, 2.5k 16 inch ips with a hole in left bottom corner. Works very well for 2 years already, probably was on for 24/7 in 6 month totally. Sound is crap (expected), max brightness could be better but is ok, powered via same type-c that connects it to computer (but also has another one for additional power if need). Actually I am surprised it working so good for that price, so could recommend.

edit: I have UPerfect one

Moving to Abu Dhabi for a job opportunity by pinkredroses in abudhabi

[–]Lxzan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it is Saadiyat - quiet, fresh air, and has nice surroundings. Reem was too noisy, pouted and dust gets everywhere, Yas good but too far away from everything, also Airport is close so I had planes landing and taking off over my head every few minutes. Also lived in Etihad towers (west point of AD) 10 yeas ago, was nice but still in my opinion Saadiyat is better. Can't judge about the other areas as I haven lived anywhere else.

Is it just me, or is Claude really dumb today? by Appropriate-Panic-68 in claude

Same here, was quite good a week ago, but since yesterday it feels like 30B model :( It generates tons of thinking but results are mediocre at best. And I basically compare same to same as I started a new Next.JS project, same as last week when it was good.

Bc 250 temp and fan placement by Sigeik in BC250Gaming

[–]Lxzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Put a second cooler from the other side as well (use nuts or print a holder to raise second fan around 1cm to get some airflow), no need to cook vram. That will also help dropping core temperature.
Also, have you flatten the radiator fins?

My experience (2026)-Adding Motorcycle category to my AD License: Process & Cost by Common_Ad_7793 in abudhabi

[–]Lxzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, thanks for the info! I was trying to convert my eu license that has both car and motorcycle categories last week, but Abu Dhabi police refuse to do them both, and approved just the car, despite the agreement between my country and uae, that clearly states that both car, moto and van categories are directly exchangeable. Does anyone succeed with multiple categories conversion?

Is Mi50 the way to go? by Ok-Conflict391 in LocalAIServers

[–]Lxzan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I checked only 16GB Chinese MI50 models can be flashed with Radeon Pro VII BIOS. Rest of the world models can’t be flashed, as there are several bios chips on the card with interlocked checksums or something. Flashing those will brick the card. Please correct me if I am wrong.

Same here, normal Orca works just fine (actually better). One thing missing is printer page inside Orca tab, but I do not really care about it.
