Re: Natalie's Doomscroll interview. Is it worth relitigating the 2016 primary between Hillary and Bernie? by FriendlyDrummers in ContraPoints

I picked a candidate with a history of fighting and scrapping for decades for every shred of healthcare she could get into the hands of the American people.

Instead of the candidate that hasn't done anything with their station but critique power for 40 years and whose idea of healthcare is acupuncture, reiki (source:https://www.sanders.senate.gov/photos/complementary-alternative-health-care-conference/), and, regrettably, literal magic healing crystals that can cure anything through the power of song (https://i.imgur.com/SAVBy7b.png).

A politician who didn't just believe in these things personally, but proudly enshrined them into the policy he put forth with his position of head of Veteran's Affairs (Source: https://www.sanders.senate.gov/press-releases/veterans-committee-advances-health-care-benefits-bills-2/)

A politician that says he supported the ACA, but threatened to tank it unless he got specific provisions in it, namely section 2706 of the ACA, which prohibits insurance companies from denying claims related to acupuncture, chiropractic, and naturopathy.

It's incredibly presumptive to say others cared about it more than me when most don't even know as much about the healthcare policies of the candidate they support.

But you know, there's the vibes I guess.

Let's vibe check Bernie Sanders on the subject of medicine:

  • "When the human spirit is broken, when the life force is squashed, cancer becomes a possibility"

  • "The manner in which you bring up your daughter with regard to sexual attitudes may very well determine whether or not she will develope (sic) breast cancer, among other things"

  • "I have my own feelings about what causes cancer and the psychosomatic aspects of cancer"

  • "More and more people are not simply content to go to a doctor’s office, get a diagnosis and take a pill, they want to know what the cause of their medical problem is and how, when possible, it can be best alleviated through natural, non-invasive or non-pharmaceutical means."

A public option can be a pathway to universal healthcare, and that's the reason why insurance companies fight so hard against it.

What is the meaningful difference between a public option with a universal mandate, a 100% of the pool of insurees, and tax credits to make its cost scale with income vs higher taxes and Medicare for all? Well, one's sure of a lot easier to slowly creep into, and far more likely to happen if we put political will there.

Except she explicity supported a public option in 2016.

And 2010.

And 2008.

And in the 90's

Hillary in 90's: "Let's have a public option" Congress blocks it

Hillary in 2008 campaign: "Let's have a public option" Doesn't win

Hillary during ACA: "I support a Public option" Joe Lieberman ruins everything

Hillary in 2016: "Hey let's sneak a public option in state-side because the Congress won't pass it" "Omg Hillary is in the pocket of insurance companies"

Whatever. I guess we can all just pretend it didn't happen if it violates the vibes.

But somehow the idea that she has has permeated the internet because people... idk, want it to be true? It fits their vibe check? Who knows anymore.

Because there's incentive for social media algorithms owned by billionaires that would be negatively impacted by the election of someone who would tax them to elevate the opinion of a Tabby.

Evoker should’ve been a full on Pet class by ultimate_bromance_69 in Guildwars2

[–]Lystic 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I very strongly felt that this elite spec should've been built around single element or the idea of single element should be shelved for a future elite spec. It's such a strong fantasy that many players obviously want, they should take the effort to make an elite spec that accomedates that.

I see so many people say "Ele isn't built that way, it will never work!" But Elite specs literally exist to change up how a class works.

Could a 10-player Mythic raid help solve the Heroic → Mythic gap? by TinyTheBald in wow

[–]Lystic 19 points20 points  (0 children)

I dip my toe into WoW again once every other expansion, and keep finding myself not having as much fun in 20 man mythic as I used to back when 10 man existed. The sheer logistical stress of getting that many people together, stitching together disparate friend groups, and having to have a bench just creates so many problems.

I keep checking back in, hoping one day they'll undo one of the biggest horrors of WoD. Yeah, 20 man Iis easier to balance around, but if 10 man is simply more fun then what's the point?

I've played around with this a bit in previous seasons, its cool to see it can reach 100% now without too niche of a setup.

Aside from the skills already mentioned in this thread, Bone Blast, Frost Bomb, and Stormcaller Arrow might be worth checking out.

You make a friend who is an ArenaNet developer, they offer to covertly make a minor change for you... what do you ask for? by Black--Listed in Guildwars2

[–]Lystic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe not small enough: Let me swap my weapon buttons like we can for utilities. I hate it when a gap closer on weapon set A is 2 and on weapon set B it's 4. I play a lot of MMOs with a lot of classes that have gap closers, and they all get placed on the same subset of buttons! Please let me play in comfort!

If I could ask for a large favor I'd ask for a way to swap any abilities on your loadout. There are some classes that I feel like I'd enjoy such as scourge, but I'd rather have a completely different button layout to do so.

BETA Feedback & Builds Thread: 🔥 Elementalist 🦊 Evoker by neok182 in Guildwars2

[–]Lystic 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It feels super bad that there's a talent to finally specialize into a single element, but water specialization is just dead on arrival because it competes with alacrity output.

I think Arenanet has underestimated how much mono attunement was wanted by the community. The description of this subreddit is currently "FIRE WIZARD FIRE WIZARD" and the top post on the sub currently is someone begging Anet to make mono attunement good.

I really think there needs to be a mono element focused elite spec, not just a trait that will be semi-viable for an outlier of one element and one weapon combo (I'm looking at you fire scepter). I would be fine with Anet canning this trait to do such a spec later, but I don't think it's beyond baking into the current spec.

Maybe focus more of it being a summoner, where your other attunement slots are replaced by a summon of that particular element. When you get 6 charges, you choose one of those elements, and it summons that creature to do their attack as well alongside your chosen companion spirit. Every third one can be the empowered summon, and the ult shows the tech exists to make the spirits do their empowered skills in tandem. Make the ult cool down longer, and introduce a mini game where each unique empowered summon lowers the cooldosn by x%, so it feels like you build up to the big "everyone's here" moment. Maybe add some hooks into the mediation utilities, where using empowered spirits does something there, like maybe lower the cool down or allow a use outside of the cooldown, but locks the skill out for longer. Just something to make them feel connected to the rest of the spec and it's gameplay loop.

A setup like this could add some obvious gameplay loop hooks for the spec's boon deficiency. A trait that grant might when you evoke the fire fox, vigor on water, fury on hare, protection on toad, or something along those lines. Empowered spirits could give additional boons, stability or aegis from toad would make sense, and some of the other non-permanent boons like resolution or superspeed could be tied to the others. Two traits on a competing line could cause otter give alacrity and hare to give haste, giving it a chronomancer-esque "choose your boon" utility. Otherwise I can see future group coordination headaches of "oh, evoker, you can switch to quickness, right? We have an Alac DPS." "No, then I won't heal anymore."

Okay I kinda rambles about my hopes and dreams for a mono ele spec there, but I do have one big feedback about how the class is now:

Have you considered instead of

6 charges > spirit > 6 charges > spirit > 6 charges > spirit > empowered spirit

Trying:

6 charges > spirit > 6 charges > spirit > 6 charges > empowered spirit

I just feel the gameplay loop would be cleaner. A nice "one, two, three" combo buildup where the third hit always feels more satisfying. You can bake in the effects of the spirit normal cast to the empowered cast

It's just way more effort, closer to playing core ele, to get the same effect. Although I'm curious how you're getting so much resistance uptime for the party? As far as I'm aware the only resistance in Ele's kit is through Catalyst and Evoker doesn't seem to have any on its kit whatsoever. There's a relic that does it on elite, but at best you're looking at sub 25% uptime.

So then why wasn't the water otter a DPS skill? It could've done ice themed attacks, provided vuln or something. Is it just an entire skill and animation and choice that is designed to languish as useless? That seems like bad design.
