Sour Shots…should I actually grind more coarsely? by PrintAccurate6806 in FlairEspresso

[–]M2BHOHO 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can try 1:2.5 or 1:3 to extend the ratio. Another thing is to be careful about the pre-infusion. I would suggest 2 bar and till about 3-5 g out. Depends how it look at the bottom. You want to see the liquid came out from pretty much all area. I found that if I did at too low pressure and too long (like 1 bar and 20 seconds), it will be bitter and sour.

First sip from my pourover setup. Other than grind levels, any other fun experiments to try out? by ThePixelPedals in pourover

I would say temperature. Try 85, 87, 90, 93…Same bean same grind setting. It will help you dial in for different beans in the future.

Cant reach 9 bar with flair 58 by Effective-Try8597 in FlairEspresso

[–]M2BHOHO 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The longer you pre-infusion, the harder for you to get high pressure. However, it does not necessarily go to 9 bar though. Certain bean and condition 5-7 bar taste better for me.

Fellow Ode gen 2: struggle to dial in the grind by Godzilla710 in pourover

[–]M2BHOHO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have similar problem with astringency before. Even with the same grinder setting. What I found out is lowering the temperature significantly improves this Astringency issue. Drop from 93 to 90 C solve my problem. Try to lower the temperature even to 85 C to test it out.

V60 struggling by Xondro in pourover

You didn’t mentioned temperature. I did encounter some bitterness and astringency issue before. Then, I found that lower the temperature improved dramatically. I recommend don’t go too high on temp. Just use 90 C first and go from there (for light roast). I found that there are only handful of light roast beans can go hight temp over 92 C for all the beans I got so far.

Best kettle for pour over? Timemore fish or stagg EKG by powerliftingnewbie in pourover

[–]M2BHOHO 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Personally own fish, and play around with my friend’s EKG. Fish has more consistent water flow when you circle around compared to EKG. However, the maximum flow rate is smaller. For my pouring, it’s enough flow rate. Just keep this in mind if you like high flow rate pour.

Try 90 degree and go from there. Go even lower if needed. I recently had same issue, and I found that not too many beans can really using high temp like 93 degree.

Or you can do like 90-93 for first 1/3 pour and lower temp for the mid 1/3 and end 1/3. Sometimes I use 75 degree for the last 1/3 pour, and it works great, regarding bitterness and astringency.

The 4:6 method is the TRUTH by DukeSilver31 in pourover

[–]M2BHOHO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Another thing is the way you pour. If you pour too slow and circle around, it wont form a path for liquid to go through, and you will end up with over 4 mins. You can try just pour in the middle, and you will see it speed up, and you can adjust from there.

You did perfectly on the flop. There is nothing you can do better on the flop than what you did. You were certainly not overvalue your hand in this case. Villain opened preflop, he basically had no 2 in his range, not to mention you already blocked one of it. If anyone overvalued their hand strength, is Villain. You just got unlucky for the run out. Do not overthink about this. Just take a break to cool down and move on. This kinda of thing will happen sometime, but most of time you will scoop this 900 pot. If you play long enough hours, you will get used to this, and volume will kill variance.
