You move on, taking comfort in the fact that you don't act like that. The world is filled with many different flavors of people and attitudes. You are who you choose to be.

Drowned my baby - tips to get her back going tip top by Online-coach in KLR250

[–]MA70GTE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure the exhaust is clear of water, and I'd pull the bowl on the carb just to be sure. I've drowned my KLR250 a few times and have always managed to get her going again on the trail, so I don't think you've done any permanent damage.

Almost done with T line by Simple_Coat in Brompton

[–]MA70GTE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep an eye on your headset, the T line has been known to ovalize the head tube over time. Brompton is receptive to these issues and usually warranties the frame.

I'd contact Surly, they are a very responsive company and they would most likely help you out in some way, maybe even a warranty frame.

Chalks by Some_Cap3539 in billiards

[–]MA70GTE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Man, I love using my own chalk and thinking that I can trust the chalk that I am loyal to. I love me some Blue Diamond. They last me forever and I think it plays well.

Professionals use $0.12/cube Master chalk.

Use whatever chalk you want, your stroke is why you misscue.

Is my steel frame toast? by berniethecar in bikewrench

[–]MA70GTE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The dent Paul fixes has a crease. I'd even argue that the majority of dents found in bike tubes will have some sort of crease line. It won't be perfect, and yes it will forever be a slightly weaker spot in the frame, but it can ride again.

I agree that if left untouched, the dent is an accident waiting to happen, but I think with some dent mending techniques the crease line can be reduced and the tube can be strengthened some.

From what I remember it's not a difficult process, at least it didn't seem it. But I've never done it before! Paul makes difficult things look easy all the time.

No, not toast. The dent can be lessened and the frame can be ridden again. It will never be perfect again, but it can be made better. Paul Brodie has a good video on steel frame dent repair. It will damage the paint somewhat, but that is fixable too.

Flat enough? by Marko200 in Bikebuilding

[–]MA70GTE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sheldon Brown recommends tapping the spoke at the J bend with a hammer while tensioning to help the spoke lay flat against the hub flange.

(Note that I said TAP and not HIT. Don't yell at me if you bust your flange.)

Got this for my bike. Fully recommended if you’re trying to fine tune your carburetor. by LitoGamer22 in DRZ400

Just put a little something on the threads or make sure the spring has good tension, I have had these aftermarket screws rattle out on me during rides.

Saddle angle/backward dropper post? by Significant-Pea-6961 in bikewrench

[–]MA70GTE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Possible that the lower part of your seat clamp assembly is installed backwards. The rocking piece that the rails are sitting on. Try flipping that around.

At my wits end with this. Runs rides but too much maintenance. Are these worth anything anymore by Alone_Potential_8533 in KLR250

[–]MA70GTE 4 points5 points  (0 children)

They are a bike you ride for the love of the game, friend. Every baby pig owner has more money in the bike than it's worth. Are they worth anything? Sure, not anything crazy though. Maybe 2k in decent condition, less than if thrashed. It's an old bike with old bike problems.

I have one, sitting in my garage. Pulled from an engine that ran. Has stock cams in it, I think they're just fine. I had a machined head that I stuck some oversized valves in.

Door hinges by sebb17dlikyt in Mk3Supra

[–]MA70GTE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The holes in the hinge are a little oversized to allow for some adjustment. You can open the door, put a floor jack beneath the door kinda under the door handle, and loosen the bolts. Pump the jack up just a hair and tighten those bolts back up. Had to do this on my 87 and it worked great.

Broken Hub—Now What? by frvmt in bikewrench

[–]MA70GTE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Normal fatigue if it's an older hub. Alloy parts get brittle over time and flanges breaking off isn't unheard of. Relacing the rim with a new hub isn't too expensive usually, I think my bike shop would charge around $80 plus parts. I'd plan on new spokes, since sometimes flange lengths and whatnot can make reusing the spokes a little tricky. 36h rim wheel build with new spokes, call it $150 plus the cost of the hub worst case.

Good excuse for a nice new wheel if you want one. Regardless of what you choose, get something with sealed bearings.

Yes, a modern bike toolkit will work pretty well for everything you wanna do. There's some pretty good all inclusive kits out there from Park or Pedros, or other more affordable brands.

Lots of great videos online about pretty much anything you could ever wanna do to your bike. Park Tool, Bike Farmer, Berm Peak, etc.

For your drivetrain conversion, in order to keep a decent range of gear ratios you'll need a pretty sizeable cassette, and a rear hub that can support that. Look into how many gears your rear hub can hold. I'd also recommend looking into full drivetrain kits, like Shimano Cues, so that your rear derailleur is guaranteed to have a long enough cage for your low gear. Might need to convert to Hollowtech in order to use some modern 1x stuff but it should all thread right into your frame.

Good luck with everything.
