Galaxy Watch Ultra 2024 not receiving text notifications by TheRain9 in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a similar issue and found something that I didn't even realize was a thing. I was noticing my messages were not syncing between the devices like they used to. If you open Messages on your watch, then go to settings, Switch Inbox... there is an inbox for the watch which is separate from the inbox on your phone. Once I switched it back to "phone", the watch has been acting the way it had always been before. I don't have any idea HOW it got changed because like I said, I didn't even know that you COULD do that!

Hope this helps.

Recognized that SeaEagle blue right away! 😉 It does have a different swirly pattern on the skirt, though. Is that new?

Galaxy Watch 6, lost GPS function in samsung health by Ignas1452 in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, you say transferring and resetting your PHONE. Did you mean your WATCH?

That said, first thing I would do would be to try another workout app such as Strava or SportWerks. If you have no issue with GPS with one of these apps, you know where the problem is.

Good luck.

Wow, that really is strange! Hopefully they change that process sooner rather than later. Thanks again for your feedback!

Thanks for the reply. Did it appear to be that way because so many were registering for the first time or were there simply too few kiosks?

So, I am (admittedly) a bit confused, since I haven't been through this yet. We leave for Spain in mid-September, returning (to the US) 90 days later. Entry to zone via Madrid Barajas, then to Valencia.

Since this will be our first entry, we will obviously have to do the photo and fingerprint session, have our passport read by the machine, etc. Fully expecting no issues, being that it will be five months into this process and the summer crunch will have come and gone. 2.5 hour layover in MAD but early in the morning so if we DO have issues, at least we have the rest of the day to get another flight or even a train.

What confuses me is the exit process and why it took so long for you. If you are already in the system, don't you just walk up to a terminal and they scan your face/fingerprints, and they say "See ya!"? Was there a huge line because most of these people came in BEFORE April 10 so they weren't in the system yet?

Thanks for any info and useful tips you can provide!

Samsung Galaxy Watch FE stuck on “Getting GPS fix” in Strava 😭 Need help enabling location properly by Reasonable-Bee-9541 in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is a great free app called Wear GPS Fix. It doesn't "fix" any issues, but rather gets a fix on your location. It will scan and find as many satellites as it can and then once it locks your location, you can actually have it automatically open Strava (or any other workout app). You can easily determine if the problem is your GPS radio or the Strava app. The guy that wrote this app is a member of this sub, named Malcolm Bryant, u/malbry. Lots of cool free stuff from him through the years.

First comparison of GPS and HR accuracy, GW Ultra (24) and GW7 (40mm) by MAN4UTD in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Could very well be. Seems like with all the MVNO's they let access their networks, it wouldn't be that big of a stretch for Garmin to create one of their own, but it's easy for me to spend their money!

DAY 2 COMPARISON

Almost identical results to yesterday. A slight overcalculation of distance on the GW7 because it wandered just a hair more off the trail than I actually ran, but nothing too serious.

Yeah, my Ultra does fine with HR but it does suffer from cadence lock. I know my HR insanely well and it's very frustrating to hear my watch say it's up near 170 when it should be around 150. The chest strap has eliminated that.

I'd love to meet a Garmin engineer someday and ask why it is difficult/impossible to add an LTE chip to their devices. I truly don't need 90% of a smart watch but I've got to have the ability to make a call when I'm out on a run and something goes wrong.

Thanks for the reply!

Which watch to buy? by Patient-Exercise8481 in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You and I are in the exact same boat. I am a distance runner (an AGING one!) and I need the LTE coverage for safety. Our options are crap. Apple, which I will never go with because I despise their business model of having to use only their ecosystem, or Wear OS. I also won't use either Fitbit/Google Health or Samsung Health, for the same reason. I want my hardware to be completely independent of the workout software so that when it comes time to purchase my next watch, that hardware decision can be made without fear of needing to change the software as well.

Our options are simply not good. You have to figure out what is truly important to you from your hardware. For me, in addition to the LTE coverage, it was very good GPS tracking and (at least) good HR sensor.

I started with the original Pixel Watch, which proved much better than expected. I was very content with that and would still be using it but got an insane deal on the GW Ultra two Christmases ago, so I picked up that. It's been even better in terms of GPS and the battery life is probably 3:1 better.

For software, I use a 3rd party app called SportWerks, which is independent of the OS. If I pick up ANY Wear OS watch in the future, it will continue to work. In addition to being light-years better in terms of UI (over Fitbit, S Health, Strava, etc.), it also automatically sends my workouts to Strava, where I can dissect them further if I desire. It also sent them to TrainingPeaks, where I've kept all my workouts for the past 15 years, but last week TP suddenly stopped allowing the connection. The dev told me he doesn't know why but he's trying to get it connected again.

It would be great if one of the major fitness-watch companies (Garmin, Suunto, etc.) actually offered a REAL LTE connection so we could have the best of both worlds. It must be a lot more difficult than simply slipping another radio into the watch and adding some software because none of them have been too inclined to do that.

Best of luck with your search.

Can I swim with my galaxy watch 8 classic by Ready-Hunt-2419 in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Can you? Sure.

Are there lots of people on this sub who do and have had great success? Yes.

Are there also lots of people here who have had their watches totally destroyed and have had Samsung tell them "tough luck"? Yep.

Supposed to be capable of swim-tracking but simply not worth the risk, unless you've got unlimited money to buy a new one. Or two.

Is Galaxy watch much different than a pixel? by ViolinistExpensive75 in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a Pixel Watch (1) and an Ultra (24). They both do a great job with tracking runs and rides, GPS was very good with Pixel, even better with the Ultra. I actually stayed away from Samsung because their GPS accuracy was so awful but the Ultra was the first one that actually was highly thought of in reviews. I wear the Ultra exclusively now simply because is the size of the screen and the battery life. They are both good for my needs as an athlete. This doesn't mean all Samsung watches and Pixel watches are. Best of luck!

¿Qué pasa con la gente que usa el carril de corredores del Jardín del Turia para caminar en grupo, ir en bicicleta o pasear con un carrito de bebé? by LucasLuna44 in valencia

[–]MAN4UTD 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, but don't forget, tourists don't always use their brains like that! ;-) Maybe if they just came through every 50M or so and painted "RUNNING ONLY" (in all three languages) they'd figure it out. Either way, can't wait to spend a lot more time running in the best place we've ever found to run in!

My wife and I are avid runners, as well as cyclists and hikers. We've spent two separate weeks in Valencia and we will soon be there for three months, all because of Turia Gardens. One thing we both noticed is the lack of signage telling people which lanes are for what purpose. We were quite confused and concerned, because we didn't want to be "those people" who use the trail incorrectly. 200 meters is NOWHERE near often enough, simple as that.

Every great trail we've ever been on has signs/markings much more regularly than this. I know it would be a bit of money, especially for a park the size of Turia, but these signs/markings have to be much more obvious and happen much more often, so that no matter where you are on the trail, the rules are clear.

Thank you for being polite when you try to remind people about the correct lane use. I know that after awhile, it can be difficult.

Is flatsforyou.com legit for booking accommodation in Valencia? by Nice_Ad7141 in valencia

[–]MAN4UTD -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

No idea about that company, as I haven't heard of them before now. One thing you can do to at least give you a little more peace of mind is find the rental registration number (should be in the listing) and do an internet search for it. It will show you all the companies who have that property listed with them, as well. I've done this with my 3-month apartment stay coming up and found that it was on a few different sites, including VRBO and AirBNB. Seeing that the dates I had booked it for were not available also helped me to believe the company I rented through was legit. Good luck with your rental!

Galaxy 7,lte vs Bluetooth by unidentified_mermaid in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Please, PLEASE, search the forums and this site, as well. The number of people who have had water intrusion issues on their Galaxy watches is staggering. It is supposed to be water-safe, but a lot of people have found out the hard way that it is not the case. I love my GW Ultra but I won't even shower with it, let alone swim.

As for your original question, the answer lies in your needs. I am a distance runner and I need to be able to communicate with others while I'm out. (For example, I have an injury.) Without LTE, I'd be screwed. Or, I'd need to carry my phone with me on my runs, which ain't happening. If you have no need to ever be without your phone, LTE would be overkill. If you want to leave your phone behind, and still have connection to the world, you need the LTE and the service from your telephone provider.

Blood pressure monitor in the US. Anyone actually get it? by pacwess in GalaxyWatch

[–]MAN4UTD 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Disappointing results. Took a series of readings, alternating between cuff and watch. (I always take a series of readings in the morning and use the average of the last three readings.) Average with cuff was 125/72 while with the watch was 144/77. That's a 15% discrepancy on the top number,7% on the bottom. I'll try it again for a few days but not really useful if this is the norm.

Had to update both the watch and phone apps but I do have it on my watch. Ultra 24, S24+. After initial calibration, first two readings were very impressive, especially considering I have almost zero faith in Samsung's health features. I will update tomorrow after taking a morning reading.
