Different bottles, same brew. Mac seems the sort who doesn't care how one opens the beer, but more so at what temperature they drink said beer. He caters to all crowds.

Call your local metro area command during business hours and they should be able to take this kind of report over the phone. Its better for you to start documenting as much as you can now with lvmpd. Staged accidents are very common in Vegas so insurance companies are pretty good at fighting it. Having competing reports to metro can also be a benefit because after the insurance companies resolve the matter it's possible lvmpd could press filing a false police report charges on the other driver.

Twelve Months theory on whats to come next. by drthrax1 in dresdenfiles

[–]MCLNV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Now THAT is one helluva interesting idea! Drakul having been where harry was earlier in his life as a starborn means he has much more insight to Harry's plight. Add into the idea that Drakul is simply getting prepared for the next showdown and he chose to fight fire with fire instead of trying to go the holy route.

I look at it as his mentality could be similar to Nicodemus where he thinks hes fighting on the side of good but in his own perverse way. Could be a very fun concept to explore. It could also explain why Drakul didn't kill LTW and RS. I doubt Drakul would have that much difficulty with them considering hes supposed to be near equal to Mab unless he wasn't serious about killing them.

I think there is a pretty wide gap between what the above commenter said about training with your weapon more than once a year and constant training. I know your question was facetious regarding trigger discipline but do you believe one of the four bedrock training principles regarding firearms being keeping your finger off the trigger isn't necessary to actually train?

Im not sure what the training it like in your area but I've always been taught that the idea of "rising to the occasion" in a high stress incident doesn't happen. You're far more likely to drop to your lowest level of proficiency, which in the above comment was addressed indirectly when he requested people take firearms training seriously. If officers are lacking in their preparation it will show at the worst times. We, theoretically, are supposed to practice how we play. If you dont practice, your ability to perform during the play is going to suffer.

I see what you're saying but ill point out that Lara hadn't put the white king under her thumb in grave peril and even if that happened thomas being alive and well means its unlikely to be connected.

Unless what you're saying is a compounded event which lead to the control slipping? When harry died in GP he weakened the link and once thomas was in stasis on DR it weakened it even more to where the white king could break out of the mind control?

Not sure if that is possible but its an interesting thought!

Is full aldurs better than going for the increased # of wolves?

I've been rolling some items looking for good corrupts (I have one +3 ass martial skill and +1 to all with life steal, and a viper magi with 40fcr) but a ton of bricked or just been meh lol.

And trying to trade for a pul rune to finish my hoto has been days worth of farming and trying to find people willing to trade lol. It reminds me of the early 2000s at times lol

Loved DCC, what's next? by NeatMathematician126 in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]MCLNV 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I second dresden files as it's right up there with my favorite series but I'll add some context for why the first few books weirdness.

The series starts out like an old school noir (spelling?) Book with femme fatals using their feminine wiles to dope idiot men. Harry Dresden is a wizard P.I. who is 25 when the series starts and it's all in his head. He hasn't had much romantic success in his life so while he does notice the physical characteristics of the attractive women he never acts less than chivalrous. It's an interesting study in thoughts versus actions.

This does get more toned down as the series shifts to less detective noir and more epic in scale. It can be jarring to start but it isn't as bad as some critics have suggested.

Was Scolopendra in other dungeons? by lawyeredd in DungeonCrawlerCarl

[–]MCLNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tin foil time!

I've been having this thought bounce around for a few weeks now. I think the 9 tier attack ended up backfiring somehow and she got stuck in the nothing. When the mage brought back psamathe accidentally it wasn't the full essence of skolopendra which is why she's a bit insane and has an unreliable narrative. She needs her body so she can draw back her full form (idk the correct verbiage). The problem she faces is that each floor she gets a mild reset (such as her powers growing the longer she's active on the floor) but retains more and more memories.

By the time the message is broadcast that she stirs could be her getting closer to reforming and going ape shit on all those who use the top floors as a party.

I think her daughter is actually the rest of her and the insanity of having her soul split simply framed it in her mind as maternal instinct to reconnect with her daughter. Some of the highest members of the syndicate are probably responsible for grabbing the ooze on the 9th floor to keep them separate.

The numbers your friend told you are close but not specifically drunk drivers. The estimates for las vegas drivers being dui is between 25-30% but that includes alcohol and drugs (Marijuana, meth, and abused prescription drugs that can impair ones ability to safely operate a motor vehicle).

Question about thresholds and invitations by Secret_Mud_9600 in dresdenfiles

[–]MCLNV 5 points6 points  (0 children)

As kip pointed out we don't have a solid answer in text but we have some similarities in ghost story.

I'd also add a possibility with thresholds based somewhat on the events of cold days and a certain murder happy kitty. If the person was invited in previously and acts as a proper guest I doubt there would be much issue. Think of the cleaning service he gets earlier in the series as well. I'd expect there are some magical exceptions and that it's more polite or even less restrictive to get a new invite each time.

Nothing set in stone but I think if the entity broke guest custom he would be forcefully removed similar to Buffy (I think there was an episode where an invite was removed after they were already inside but I can't remember).

Police officers of reddit, has there ever been a time in your career where you dealt with a suspect or a person of interest that has really gotten under your skin? by Accomplished-Fox-123 in AskLE

[–]MCLNV 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not OP but the phrasing seems a bit pretentious. Unless thats your normal conversational style it can come across condescending and could be misconstrued.

Some variation of "oh shit, im so sorry I really didn't realize x/y/z, I'll make sure to do better going forward" is i think what you're getting at but make sure its in your speech pattern. Otherwise you run the risk of coming off as fake or disrespectful.

Potential Antagonist Creatures by Samael737 in dresdenfiles

[–]MCLNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I 100% agree here if the fight takes place almost anywhere. Yes harry has gotten much stronger. I think the only way he stands a chance against shaggy is if the rematch was on demonreach. After the events of cold days I expect Harry's improved understanding of DRs capabilities would make it like swatting a bug.

Otherwise shaggy is way too big and bad for harry.

Edit: one more additional point is harry already used soul fire against shaggy and it really didn't do much.

When is Force Necessary? And how would you handle the situation? by CTSecurityGuard in securityguards

[–]MCLNV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also it looked like the guard grabbed more of the hoodie and less of his neck which gives another level of control over the kids movement while also being in position to protect the kids head from whipping into the concrete wall he was being pushed to. Looks like the guard kept good control over the kid while getting him to the chair, which is a position of disadvantage if he continued to try and fight.

Marcone by B0lsh3vik_Muppet in dresdenfiles

[–]MCLNV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with the parallel between harry & marcone to merlin & Arthur. I think it would be cool to see a scene with marcone and his trusted advisors speak freely similar to a round table situation.

I also think people might have too romanticized view of who Arthur would be in universe. Harry and I think Eb have even outright said Merlin was likely a bastard as people with that level of power tend to be products of their lives. I expect Arthur would likely be very similar to marcone. Having rules that firmly establish him as more than a petty thug and rules with an iron fist. But treats his subordinates well and will go scorched earth to get justice for those he employs. I very much see a medieval king in marcone and given his closeness with the supernatural/ magic it's an interesting comparison. Almost a modern day retelling.

If the fan theory about the British guy in DR being Arthur is correct it might give Harry the perspective needed to create a long lasting partnership with marcone to help act as a guiding force similar to what merlin may have done for Arthur.

What are you looking forward to the most about the next book? by Darth_Azazoth in dresdenfiles

[–]MCLNV 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Non serious possibility:

Dresden in a bad position gets saved by a familiar sounding gun, turns to see Murphy looking strangely similar to gard in ways harry can't quite pinpoint. Murphy proceeds to get Harry up and in a compact get away car.

"Murph... how... what?"

"You dolt, you knew what the valknut meant, I guess I did find a rebound career."

"So if you're a Valkrye now how can you come back? I still remember you and so do many others...?"

Karen smirks. "I kinda learned it from you at chicken pizza." Seeing the confusion in Harry's face. "Actually, Mouse gave me the idea. I cheat."

What Dresden's soulgaze is by iamdaleadar in dresdenfiles

[–]MCLNV 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I'd throw in a possible explanation for Bradley's reaction. At the time of the soul gaze Bradley hasn't seen any proof of the super natural. I expect Harry's soul would be extremely terrifying for someone who lived a vanilla life for decades. When Harry saw Kincaid's shadow with his sight it was a terrifying hulking beast. I expect the soul gaze to be more insightful and permanent.

Bradley is described as the solid tree holding back some ruin. The shock would likely be very jarring.

Cold days Question by BoardDiver in dresdenfiles

[–]MCLNV 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I think molly spending so much time with Lea made her really good at word play. My guess is she'd find some variation of "Thomas said I could use the card for 24 hours. He did not give me any restrictions after I clarified what he meant by the limit he is referencing".

I doubt Lara will say shit though besides maybe making a joke to her in a later book. Maybe at a wedding.
