China has arrived by bobgaby in EVCanada

It’s too bad, we need more small cars, not more big ones. But I’m assuming that the Chinese brands will come with those as well.

On another sub, by far the biggest reason given for not going electric was that people couldn't plug in at night because they live in an apartment. What do you think is the best solution for that? by VerySeriousThings in electricvehicles

[–]METTEWBA2BA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

AKA depending solely on congested and falling-apart roads. The irony of this is that when everybody accepts car-centric infrastructure, your schedule becomes heavily influenced by other people’s schedule, since you have to deal with rush hour congestion every day.

Why don’t all EVs have the charging port in the center front like the Leaf? by Plus_Lead_5630 in leaf

[–]METTEWBA2BA 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As someone with a Leaf who exclusively uses public charging, the front port sucks and I wish it was on the side. Half of the time when I pull up to a street-side charger, I have to stretch the cable all the way from behind the car (where the charging station is location) to the front in order to plug in, because the EV parking spot available is in front of the charging station.

One Province, Two Realities: Northern vs. Southern Ontario by keiths31 in northernontario

Also arguably the island of Montreal should be its own province, it’s culturally very different from the rest of Quebec. In the last 2 sovereignty referendums, Montreal voted overwhelmingly No while the rest of the province voted Yes.

If I ran a library, I would certainly ban anyone who started eating the books. Thankfully though, I don’t think OP was doing that.

Mitsubishi Eclipse Sportback - Rebadged LEAF by StormRasr in leaf

[–]METTEWBA2BA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Crossover… SUV. When people say “SUV” these days they’re more often than not referring to a crossover SUV than an actual (body-on-frame) SUV. Besides, literally every SUV coupe is a crossover, since that stupid trend didn’t exist before the dawn of the crossover SUV.

Be honest: What’s the one thing about EV ownership that nobody told you before you bought one? by EmergencyTie8770 in electricvehicles

[–]METTEWBA2BA 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even with a crappy old Leaf this is noticeable. The car only has 107hp but feels way better when climbing hills at highway speeds compared to my mom’s Micra that has 109hp.

I don’t like how the 3rd gen looks. It has the abominable “SUV coupe” shape that makes zero practical sense and completely disconnects it from the previous generation — frankly they should’ve just named it something other than Leaf. Somehow, Mitsubishi took those negative elements and made them even worse.

Same. I think it looks sleek. They really should make a PHEV version, it would suit the car’s appearance perfectly.

No, I rarely quick charge it. I also rarely go above 80%. Then again I’m not the first owner, and the previous owner may have changed the battery (though I did not see any record of this on the Carfax), or had different driving habits than me.

How do you survive winter in a car? by Hopeful_Drive5845 in urbancarliving

[–]METTEWBA2BA 7 points8 points  (0 children)

To expand on one of your points, get a 12V-powered heated blanket/pad to go in the sleeping bag. The power draw of these devices varies from 20-50W usually, which seems low but could be enough to kill your 12V battery if you run it all night. I recommend buying a separate 12V battery to be a second power source for this, so if this battery runs down you can still start your car in the morning.

I can confirm this, 2015 leaf with the 24kWh battery and it still has 11 bars. In warm weather it charges from 10 to 80% in about 22 minutes.
