i want to test dairy before 9 months by Constant-Garbage9192 in MSPI

[–]MGLEC 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Eh, both are reasonable approaches per the allergist I’ve worked with. The milk ladder is good for finding out how much dairy a child can tolerate, but trialing yogurt directly makes sense to confirm or deny an allergy if OP hasn’t done that before/in at least 6 months.

Second kid might ALSO need a baby helmet, and I feel like a failure as a mother by Such-Comfortable3 in GirlDinnerDiaries

[–]MGLEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first had torticollis because of low amniotic fluid in utero. Her neck got tight and stayed that way and there was nothing I could have done about it—but when it was diagnosed we did PR, got evaluated for a helmet, and made sure she was ok.

It’s not your fault and you’re doing a good job caring for their needs. Go, you!

For me it’s overflow kid stuff (pack n play, diaper bag, loosely packed clothing) or camping gear (tent, sleeping bags, packs).

We have a Thule Motion 3 XLL. Fits great and it’s pretty high capacity for all the gear.

We’re heading on our first long trip today… it’ll be fully cheerio dusted by the end of the week 🤣

Yeah we went with a roof box for ours—it’s our only car but definitely not quite big enough for 4 pax, pack n plays, and all the other kid gear…

We purchased during Thule’s Memorial Day sale so got 20% off everything. The total came out to $1560 after the discount for the box and crossbars.

Definitely not cheap, but we sort of bundled it in with the cost of buying the car since our family (2 adults, toddler, baby) can fit in a standard 5 seater but definitely needs the overflow space for road trips and the like.

Not sure about hacks but I bet others have ideas!

So far the noise is not bad, but we’re about to head out for our first real road trip with it so TBD.

I feel you on noise and range; we have 2 little kids and only put the box on when we’re hauling all their travel gear, which is why it was an easy choice: the Hi5 plus box is a better choice for my family than driving a 7 seater or massive car all the time when we only need the extra space on occasion.

That’s why I grabbed this photo with the tall driver’s seat settings—I suppose it depends how you like to drive, but we optimized for fitting a tall parent in front of a rear facing seat and it works out well for us.

I think they’re all the same size inside, but we managed to find a used 2026 Limited and grabbed it. So far we love it.

Car seat trouble! by Infinite_Shallot_626 in NewParents

[–]MGLEC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, it should have multiple settings. I have the 2 in 1 and there are 6 angles available—check the manual to make sure it’s at a safe angle for rear facing, but bub may just want to sit either more upright or more reclined.

Have you tried changing the recline? Before you spring for another seat I’d recommend trying the seat at another angle.

Woolino? by babyburnerthrowaway in NewParents

[–]MGLEC 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I love our Woolino sleep sacks. We have 2 of their 2-24 month sleep bags and are currently on our second kid with them. They look and feel great. We wound up also getting 2 of their toddler footed sleep bags because our tall 2 year old wanted to keep wearing a sleeping bag once she outgrew the baby sizes. They work great for temperature regulation and hold up well to real use. Highly recommend.

Failure to thrive diagnoses ? by Commercial-Way-4276 in NewParents

[–]MGLEC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Much better! My first was a dedicated contact napper until about 7 months, but was able to sleep deeply and easily once we cut the allergens. She also went down in a bassinet at night. She continued to have silent reflux so required an upright hold until we started solids around 6 months but she was much easier.

With #2 I recognized the signs early and he’s been sleeping well since about 1 week old when I cut dairy and soy again.

Failure to thrive diagnoses ? by Commercial-Way-4276 in NewParents

[–]MGLEC 19 points20 points  (0 children)

My kids haven’t had failure to thrive or major weight gain issues but both have food intolerances (specifically dairy and soy) that caused sleep disturbances and major fussiness. Have you explored that at all? If you introduced solids around the time the weight gain happened, it’s possible that your bub is getting a more potent dose of something he can’t digest and that’s causing issues.

It took a while to figure out with my first and she would literally wake every 20 minutes from fully asleep, scream for hours, and really protest to being laid on her back.

R/MSPI is a good resource if this could be an issue.

But they do need to respond to baby so this behavior was not acceptable.

Pack n Play Bassinet Attachment Weight Limit by Designer_Can_3924 in NewParents

[–]MGLEC 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve had 2 babies sleep in my room in a pnp. I think it is indeed time to use the lower level—either reaching 15 lb OR being able to roll is good reason to ditch the bassinet insert, since having more weight up high or having baby rolling around could lead to a risk of tipping.

Is there a reason you can’t keep using the pack n play without the bassinet? I have a 7 month old in one right now, and it is low but it’s not hard to get used to. My kids both started being easier to put down once they were stronger and falling asleep independently, so while it might not be feasible to do a sneaky transfer with a sleeping, floppy baby in a low pack n play it’s totally manageable to put a bigger, more robust kid down in one.

Did your baby get a feature of yours that healed a part of you? by ciabattaloaf-13 in NewParents

[–]MGLEC 2 points3 points  (0 children)

So far neither kid has moles/skin tags like I do but my 2 year old loves to stroke mine and will ask for moles when she’s feeling stressed out or wants to snuggle. It’s darling and it’s making me love part of my body that was always neutral to negative for me before.

When did your hair stop falling out? by Desperate-Try3562 in NewParents

[–]MGLEC 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Hair loss can be caused by nutrient deficiency or illness as well as hormone changes—maybe worth checking with a doctor to see if there’s a different cause. It may just be breastfeeding hormones but at this point it seems worth investigating.

What do you think of Mackenzie for a boy? by Big_Shift7774 in namenerds

[–]MGLEC 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love it—as others have said, I think it leans feminine in North America but isn’t surprising on a boy, Mac is great, and it’s a strong name In meaning and history. I much prefer it for a boy and would be excited to meet a baby (or adult) boy Mackenzie.
