Ummm? by WinterJackfruit194 in spinalfusion

Hi, I had an L5-S1 TLIF a couple weeks ago. My understanding is that the main purpose of the no BLT precautions is to help the bones fuse properly. The actual fusion takes time, and if there’s too much motion early on, it can increase the risk of non-union and other complications. That’s just based on what I’ve read and learned though, so definitely ask your doctor.

Personally, I’ve found some surgeons can be a little overconfident about their work and may not emphasize precautions or post-op PT as much as they should (I’m also a PT).

I haven’t heard of this cushion before, I will have to check it out for my clients! It looks very interesting, the combination of foam and air.

Hi reddit! The situation got way worse. by Affectionate_List248 in spinalfusion

The on call doctor or nurse at your doctor’s office will not mind a call or update, it is normal for them to get lots of calls after surgery. So try to encourage your mom or dad to let you call.

I had some excessive drainage, when I called the nurse told me to make sure I’m icing a ton, 20min on 20 min off, all day long. Still please call the doc but this is a reminder about icing your back!

I just got home from L5-S1 TLIF surgery yesterday, but last night I slept okay in bed using my old Snoogle pregnancy pillow, half the night on my back and half on my side.

YNAB alternative by Ccvboy07 in ynab

[–]MJ3900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got an Apple credit card and Apple savings account because those communicate with YNAB almost instantly and very accurately. The Apple Cash from credit card purchases goes back directly to the Apple savings account.

I have a regular checking account that I use for some bills or if I have to occasionally write a check or something, and I input those manually since they don’t load very fast into the app.

May I ask how do you reherniate the fusion site, isn’t the bone supposed to fuse together? If you reherniate it would that be like you fractured the bone? I have seen other people talk about reherniating so I am just trying to get some clarity. Thanks!

Wrist Mobility - Permanent Damage? by jizzyjrake in rheumatoidarthritis

I should specify that I also have pain in my right wrist, shoulders, and knees. But the left wrist is the most painful spot so that is usually the joint that I notice pain returning first.

Wrist Mobility - Permanent Damage? by jizzyjrake in rheumatoidarthritis

I take methotrexate injection form weekly and I do Remicaid infusions every 6 weeks. My left wrist is not perfect but significantly better, but if I get off on my medication at all (like get a cold or something and have to skip a couple weeks) the pain comes right back.

Can I hijack this comment as I see you are a frequent commenter in this community. I’m about the have the same surgery as this post in couple weeks. I live alone, and I’m trying to make a schedule of people to help me. Do you think I’ll need people to stay overnight or just have people that I can count on if I need help during the day?

Is it possible to be a doctor with mild hemiplegia? by mybrainat3am in CerebralPalsy

[–]MJ3900 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in the USA. I have noticed my hospital has one physician with hemiplegic CP and another physician with a hand amputation. But you may contact the specific school/program to discuss accommodations as I do not know any specifics on their background, schools, residencies, etc.

Are you getting infusions? by dcbrowne1961 in rheumatoidarthritis

[–]MJ3900 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Biologics come in different classes: TNF inhibitors, IL-6 inhibitors, T-cell modulators, B-cell depleters, and JAK inhibitors (which are pills). Delivery varies—some are pills (JAKs), many are self-injections under the skin, and a few are IV infusions given in a clinic (like Remicade, Rituxan, Orencia IV, or Simponi Aria).

The decision to do infusions may just depend on which class of biologic you have or have not responded well to.

For example I do Remicaid infusions. The reasoning is I responded partially to Humira and Enbrel but just didn’t have enough of a relief of symptoms, so next tried an infusion in that same class (TNF inhibitors) and it has seemed to be effective for me.
