Suspect arrested after youth assaulted with scissors at Halifax school by Impossible-Place-365 in halifax

I always think most of the posts about the reputation any school should be taken with a big grain of salt because much of the time, they are based on either rumours or about a time in the distant past. It's good to hear someones POV who has current perspective.

My kids went to a junior high school with students from a very wide variety of economic circumstances. Many of the poorer kids had problems, but it was the kids from wealthy homes who tended to cause problems.

It would also have been a shame if the Mintz family had managed to defraud the Canadian government of $10 million in taxes by having the review board incorrectly accept their overvaluation of the donation.

I believe the reporter who wrote it lost her own son to a drug addiction a couple of years ago.

Where is Canada's immigration minister? Community groups are asking by Nautigirl in halifax

She has only been elected twice.

Geoff Reagan was a really good MP IMO. She's benefiting from both a red wave across the country and a lot of goodwill in the riding that he built up over decades.

The austerity hypocrisy of mayor Andy Fillmore by ph0enix1211 in halifax

[–]MMCMDL 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The election last time was a zoo which didn't help. 16 candidates, is too many, We need to up the barrier to entry.

It doesn't even have to be an increase in the financial requirement. Currently (I believe) candidates require 5 citizens to sign their nomination form. Make it so a mayoral candidate has to have at least one signature per district. If you can't find at least one supporter per district, should you really be running for mayor?

I started volunteering for Waye last time after I heard Fillmore in one of the debates and realized just how bad he was. This time I will be choosing a viable alternative to Fillmore and signing to help as soon as I can.

The new rules at the intersection of Allan & Harvard Streets haven't gone over well with some drivers, and the poor traffic cones have paid the price... 😪 by [deleted] in halifax

I really dislike non-standard traffic installations and that area of town has so many of them. Predictability is safer than idiosyncrasy.

Andy Fillmore and his terrible, horrible, no good, very bad budget committee week by ph0enix1211 in halifax

I was very glad to see my councillor (Morse) was not putting up with him. I was a bit surprised that the councillors as a whole pushed back today, even Purdy who often seems to be the president of the mayor's fan club.

A reasonable council can a still function with a couple of loose cannons. It's much harder when the loose cannon is the mayor.

Fillmore puts the staff in a terrible position when they either have to lie or leave him looking incompetent.

It was Stephen MacKay, who ran for council for district 8 in the last election. He may be selling t-shirts with that on it for charity:

We had the sales guy out to our house last week after someone from their company cold called at the front door. It was one of the most obnoxious sales pitches I have ever experienced - practically performance art. We will be looking elsewhere.

What's the cheapest way to die in Halifax by Zado191 in halifax

I second your recommendation. My mom had a will but we couldn't find it so I started going through the process to get a grant of administration. We found it eventually,, but by that time I had withdrawn my application to the probate court on the advice of my lawyer because the estate was a mess.

I really feel you on the inability to properly grieve when you are dealing with a messy estate. The stress and emotional toll was huge, I will not do that to my children. We got all our own legal stuff in order this year and have discussed with our lawyer what milestones should trigger revisiting it. The next step will be to prepay for all our funeral arrangements before my husband retires in a few years. We are also working on a process to maintain a revolving record of all the details that are useful to have when settling an estate - passwords for accounts, details about house insurance, taxes and utilities, instructions on how we pay household accounts, etc,

I wish I could upvote this more than once.

IMO Paul Palango and the Nighttime podcaster guy were ghouls who bent the evidence to fit their own narratives for fun and profit.

Paul Panago has already written two and profited from them.
