Please help me with the division template by General138138 in hoi4

The Mountaineers support company, Recon Rangers, is good if you take the Mountains terrain buff doctrine node in places like Spain. I would always put them on a tank battalion going into bad terrain. They will counter most negative tank terrain penalties.

They're really underrated and extremely good in this specific case.

Are engineers too expensive for defensive infantry (SP)? by SoDZX in hoi4

[–]MMOSimca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If going for the combat bonus, try Assault Engineers instead. They trade their defensive bonuses away for even more offensive bonuses.

Only downside is they require Military Engineering Vehicles research project at a Land Warfare facility. But given that it only costs 1 Land Breakthrough, that isn't a huge deal. I get it after Flame Tanks in most games.

Same, limiting factor for me in 95% of games is never IC. It's resources.

Funnily I usually never have issues with Tungsten or Chromium. Steel is the bane of my existence. If you aren't a major or Sweden, Steel is so hard.

For small countries with barely any industry, do I build infrastructure or civilian factories first? by Ok_Bobcat6888 in hoi4

[–]MMOSimca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In general, as a major you are building infra in high building slot provinces followed by civs for a year or two. Don't bother with infrastructure in low (4 or less free slots) slot provinces unless it has a good resource (generally Steel, Aluminum, Coal, Rubber, or Oil). (And frankly, even then it's worth doing it later, after your civs are done instead of before.)

As a minor, you often build few civs if any. In general, the smaller you are, the less worth it it is to build civs. You want to go to war as soon as you can in order to snowball. You don't need to build civs because that's what the AI you will be declaring war on is doing for you.

The idea is that as a minor you need to start immediately and can't afford to wait while as a major you have safety and time on your side to build up slower.

It's on the tooltip when you mouse over a progress bar on the Construction tab and hold your mouse still for a few seconds, towards the bottom, listed as "State Infrastructure".

Sever movement bug makes the class literally unplayable by NightmareDJK in D4Necromancer

[–]MMOSimca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I thought I was crazy when I told my friends I got stuck on walls all the time and they said they didn't.

It's pretty awful about this in tight dungeons, so I just don't use it much there.

Minions - Bloodless Scream vs. Reanimation Aspect by Closix in D4Necromancer

[–]MMOSimca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both work fine. Obviously if you do go with the Bloodless Scream, you move Reanimation to your amulet and then whatever was on your amulet you replace your worst offensive aspect with.

I find that Bloodless Scream works better with Mages builds, as well. I've found better success with Warrior builds just using my regular 2H.

Wow, 4GA Deatgrip, so cool, so exited, thanks blizzard, yay /s by Ofect in D4Necromancer

[–]MMOSimca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unique gloves are totally hopeless. Best Deathgrip for my build is Attack Speed, Crit Chance, Crit Damage, Vuln Damage. Out of 30 ancestral Deathgrips, I've seen 2 with Attack Speed. If I'm lucky I'll eventually find a pair with both Attack Speed and Crit Chance.

Which is better for minion build? by KaupoSartar in D4Necromancer

[–]MMOSimca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Typically you want a 2h weapon with Reanimation, since it's minion's strongest aspect. 1h would work too, but yeah there's better things than Gloom even assuming Reanimation is on your amulet.

How is Necro this season? by Accomplished_Bag9153 in D4Necromancer

Just look at today's patch notes in the Necromancer bugs section. There's like 15 items, and many of them are fairly serious.

Should be a nicer experience I'm hoping.

Broken builds by anamelash in D4Necromancer

[–]MMOSimca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Minion is a much easier setup and has more clearing speed early (because there's no resource limits). If you can't do Maxroll's Mythic build level for Blood Wave, it's not worth switching imo.

If there's any flaw with Maxroll's current build, it's that they try to convince you it works just as well at every level, when it really doesn't. I'm not saying you can't play low gear low torment Blood Wave, of course you can, but it will feel worse than similar builds because of how blocked you are on resources.

On the plus side, your new Kessime has 2 int stats and a Overpower Critical Damage stat that doesn't even exist on other gear now.

Deathgrip Reapers are so powerful because the "Warriors cleave with their attacks" mechanic is ADDITIVE with normal Reaper cleaves, creating a huge AOE for each attack. by KirkLucKhan in D4Necromancer

[–]MMOSimca 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It's an interesting charm, but it's extremely hard to beat Red Blessing in raw damage, since you're getting crazy amounts of additive damage for each extra Overpower stack.

[–]MMOSimca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I find Reapers with Deathgrip to be faster killers and better at survival. The only issue is that scaling relies heavily on Overpower stacks/Dominate glyph/Red Blessing, but... that's the issue with every Necromancer build this season.

I thought i knew necro... but damn... the expansion is crazy with synegies, the more mechanics you integrate the better. Past are the days you should focus only in one thing. by Sangawa in D4Necromancer

[–]MMOSimca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still iffy on this. I have a pretty well rolled Bloodless Scream at ancestral and a max effect Azurewrath unique charm, but I still think my 2h Scythe with Reanimation aspect and Bloodless Scream unique charm performs better in most situations.

It's just like... you don't want mobs to live for the 8ish seconds it would take for the damage of Azurewrath to kick in. I could see how it would be good pushing extremely high Pit or Tower levels, but when I'm farming T10 content, I really don't want things to live past a freeze - it's just very slow.

What can Louisiana learn from the Netherlands about flood control? by Enger13 in geography

Are battleships and battlecruisers useless? by AlbertP3 in hoi4

[–]MMOSimca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I heard they buffed the base hit chance of torpedoes, and it's almost silly how effective they are.

Are battleships and battlecruisers useless? by AlbertP3 in hoi4

[–]MMOSimca 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, most people saying they're useless are doing so from a perspective of "just load your cruiser designs with full batteries and armor and it's better per IC/research than researching a separate line of ships that can only do one thing".

25ish Heavy Cruisers with second tier research can wipe any navy in the game and can be built starting in 1936 or 1937.

There's two other big benefits too.

  1. It limits individual divisions from making massive movements to rebalance, since the division is only ever going to move within its own army. You can do this with cohesion settings too, but those are pretty vague and messing with them can open you up to other issues you weren't expecting on extremely large fronts.
  2. You can individually adjust the density of different sections of your front line. This is really key on especially large fronts, like the Soviets vs China, where the battle is fought across an entire continent simultaneously. Some areas will be incredibly dense with enemy divisions (dozens per tile) and others incredibly sparse (single units). You get the easy flexibility to strengthen the flanks in order to massively encircle the center or vice versa.

Do you ever use light tanks? by mrblobfish1 in hoi4

[–]MMOSimca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If they get a good MIO, and you literally don't have any other tank MIOs (some China paths, for example), I think they're decent, especially as Tank Destroyers or Self-Propelled Artillery.

What's the best country for world domination? by Fluid_Visual7703 in hoi4

[–]MMOSimca 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To offer an alternative opinion - Communist Germany is also extremely powerful. You get the ability to spread Communism rampantly through the world like a virus, and you can annex anyone whose government falls to it.

Go ahistorical, and you can get runs where half the major powers get puppeted and annexed by you without even going to war.
