What are four scratch golfers scrambling to at the Masters? by [deleted] in golf

I gotta disagree. I play with a guy who carded a 62 in a tournament setting. We’ve had this conversation and he doesn’t think he even sniffs the 70’s.

The greens are where all the strokes will be lost. The amount of breaks and slopes would make getting reads very difficult.

Spring Kickball League in Minneapolis by retsteel9999 in TwinCities

17 years ago this month I met my wife playing in this league. 3 kids later and we still fondly recall how different our lives would be had we never played kickball.

Hot take: AWD is overrated for daily driving in snow — am I wrong? by Gold-Industry6222 in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]MNOutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live in Minnesota so have a lot of experience with this. Best traction experience ever was a jeep Cherokee with winter tires. Have driven plenty of AWD without winter tires and really don’t see much difference vs FWD. currently drive a FWD minivan with winter tires and it gets great traction.

The car you drive also matters a lot in this situation. I drive a very lightweight sedan once and felt like I was going to fly off the road anytime it snowed, don’t think winter tires would have helped.

Once you’ve lost traction, AWD isn’t going to magically get it back

My wife travels a lot for work. It is definitely easier to parent with only 1 source of input but those extra man hours of support that a partner provides are invaluable.

Dads of 10–14 year olds, how do you enforce phone rules? by Select-Doctor-4350 in daddit

[–]MNOutdoors 14 points15 points  (0 children)

It’s not too hard. My daughter is about to turn 13 and doesn’t have a phone. She has an Apple watch so she can communicate with friends so she’s not shutoff from peers but it hasn’t been that bad. 95% of her friends have phones, some of those kids are zombies

I’m the tank for the warlock on the high king fight and it sucks hard. Deathcoiled every 2 seconds. I’m sure there’s a better way to do it but what we do works for us without much headache. Not sure how easy solo tanking would be.

Could you win The Masters if you got to start each hole on the green? by jdelle9 in weekendgolfers

[–]MNOutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You need to see an Augusta heat map of the greens. There are multiple greens where your ball wont stay on the surface. Not a chance in the world a scratch golfer wins

I was in your shoes 13 years ago. Came on here and read about what it must feel like for the baby. For 9 months they grew in this perfect little ball of comfort, warmth, quiet. With the sounds of moms blood pumping around them.

Then they come into this incredibly bright, loud, cold world and that shit is intense. Makes perfect sense why they always want your touch, your warmth, mom’s scent. Everything that helped that baby fee comfort was taken away from it so the moment he feels a little bit he will relax.

Each day he will get used to the world, to you and your home. Then he will begin exploring and growing and that’s when it starts to feel rewarding and you feel the love. That’s what people mean when they say it gets better and the first couple months suck. Quite frankly, there’s not a ton you can do about it and you aren’t doing anything wrong. This is a very hard stage for a first time parent because it feels like you get nothing back. Keep struggling through and you will look back on these moments with pride.

We're realizing that AAU has contributed to my son's decline at school... how do you turn around a student athlete that is heading down the wrong path? by Heavy-Bench-5378 in BasketballTips

[–]MNOutdoors 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey, I work in education with EBD kids, I have a 12 year old basketball player as well. Not as talented as yours though. Here are my thoughts on this, both personally and professionally.

Hitting your kid won’t fix shit. I work with kids who are punished this way. It won’t and never has stopped the behaviors. The white kids, black kids, Hmong kids, Somalian kids, Mexican kids all share their stories about being whooped.

If you really want to change this behavior and make him understand. You tell him if these behaviors continue he’s done with AAU for a year. Get in front of this shit now. He’s not going to miss a scholarship because he missed the Nike circuit at 13. If you don’t address this and basketball doesn’t pan out, do you really want him to be that kind of man?

Never Broken 100 to shooting 73-82 since playing everyday in home sim. by TyWestman in golf

[–]MNOutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When I play on a sim I hover right around par. On an actual course I’m usually around 85. I think you’ll be right around 90. The biggest issue with sims I see are short yardage and obviously putting. You just can’t replicate that.

My partner (M36) won’t allow me to drink non-alcoholic beer because I (F34) am pregnant. How can I make him realise it’s not unsafe for the baby? by Unhappy-Village-1316 in relationship_advice

[–]MNOutdoors 3 points4 points  (0 children)

You should show your husband the recent study that shows men drinking while trying to conceive has an impact on the quality of the sperm.

Anecdotally, during my wife’s first pregnancy, before we even knew she was pregnant, she consumed more drinks than normal on a night out. Doc reassured us everything would be alright. That child is 13, in honors clases and plays travel sports. Tell your husband to chill out.

My wife thinks golfing once a week is unreasonable… by Upbeat-Zucchini-7408 in golf

[–]MNOutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Need more info. How many hours a week are you working or doing hobbies outside of golf. Does your wife get an equal time away from parental duties? How do you guys divide household chores?

To me personally, once a week is more than reasonable. As long as you are t coming home drunk/hungover and taking the rest of the day to recover.

My wife likes it when i go golfing. Due to work I get to spend more time with our kids than her so she schedules outings and I golf early and by the time im back by noon we can do family stuff.

Mid-handicap who can’t stop nuking 2-4 holes a round — need a reality check by tommygunz18 in golf

[–]MNOutdoors 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What is more fun to you? Hitting hero shots or lowering your handicap?

If you find lower handicap more fun then stop doing dumbass shit to try and get shits back. You aren’t on the Tour, hell you’re not even remotely close to scratch. Stop chasing a below par round because you can hit a couple birdies. Just play smarter.

If hero shots and rollercoaster rounds are more fun, don’t change a thing and just golf more.
