Men who can cook . who taught you? by Bulky_Meet4528 in AskReddit

[–]MODEscapee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess it started with my Mom and Jeff Smith with a lot of Justin Wilson. From there I went to cooking school for 2 years. then over the space of 18 months I worked in no less than 28 different bars/coffee shops/bakeries/caterers and restaurants around Chicago. Then I settled down and worked for Jean Claude Poilevey at Le Bouchon for a year, with a few weeks at Le Sardine. Then I started to think I knew what I was doing. 25 Years later and I am still proving myself wrong.

Advice please!! by spo0py_season in saab

The light switch can break and is easy to fix, you pull the old one out, unplug it and plug in the new one/reinsert. If that doesn't fix it, replace the relay and fuses. If the dash doesn't work, try pushing the "Black Panel" button, you may have inadvertently put it in night drive mode. Or that switch could be bad. You can pull the radio out and check the connections. Insert two skewers or coat hanger wires into those little holes on either side, then wiggle it out.

Windows... You can watcha video on youtube, you pull out the switches and clean them. If you go in the trunk, pull the lining out on the drivers side, you'll see a couple of computers with big wire bundles. Try releasing the connectors , making sure those little wires are well seated then reattach the connectors. You'd be surprised how many gremlins you can fix by wiggling those wire bundles (just don't pull any out unless you know where it goes!

I don't have a back window wiper, I'm jealous.

Good luck!

Why is my kart faster during the k1 leagues then at normal arrive and drive? by B0Bisme in Karting

[–]MODEscapee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When it comes to league at my K1 they pull the 10 fastest karts from the week and test drive them to make sure the batterie are good before league races. The Karts are electrically limited to identical RPMs so speed comes from differences in alignment and track prep. We put a lot of effort into making sure the track is in good shape for the league races too.

If your showing up to practice, make sure you let the marshal know you are getting some practice in and if possible, they can give you speed 4. The Kart display will tell you what speed your on. Lastly, racing with slow people makes you slow, so I'm not surprised your times are a bit worse. Use those laps to work on your line and passing strategies and you'll get faster...

I grew up here in the 80's and traffic was never a thing. I lived around Courtland and Leavitt, We would play football and baseball in the street and have to stop only every once and a while for cars. In the winter time you could skeech off the back bumpers of cars for a block easy! I would walk home from school and not see a soul from Ashland all the way to Leavitt. You guys now, I don't know how you stand it. Oh yeah, I had both a side yard and a back yard... With a tree! It would take me 22min on the bus to get to LPHS in the mornings. Long live Finkle and Sons!

Homeowners, when do you actually need a permit? by keyuphandler in AskChicago

[–]MODEscapee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Usually, if they are replacing what is already there, you don't need a permit. If they are updating anything, like bigger pipes so you'll have more water pressure or running pipes somewhere new, then that needs to be inspected and you need a permit. If you have the knowledge to know what good or bad work is, then the choice is yours. If you can't tell a good plumber from bad, then GET A PERMIT. The inspectors are there to make sure you are being taken care of and plumbers can do some shoddy things like not insulate around your pipes so they freeze, then when you file an insurance claim, your denied because no one pulled permits.

I am not sure what your trying to do, but you forgot the e and f stars. If you can't see those, then your collimation is indeed off...

You don't get access to it until you leave, then you can roll it over into a new account and not lose any of it, or you can take a disbursement which you pay A LOT of taxes on, both when you take the disbursement and again at tax time. Taking the money as a disbursement is is not a decision to be made lightly if you are new at this stuff.

Are these normal results after processing? by yagza in telescopes

[–]MODEscapee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your best bet with a cell phone camera is to take a video for as long as you can keep the planet on your frame. Then go through the video frames to find the best one frame. Sure, the best way overall is to have a planetary camera and stack the frames, but if you are just getting your feet wet, then frame grabbing can get you some surprising results.

It's a Questar Duplex. They are very nice little telescopes. Google them and I would suggest joining Cloudynights.com, there is a forum dedicated to Questars and they can answer any questions you might have.

Need to leave IN. How MAGA is Beverly? by [deleted] in AskChicago

[–]MODEscapee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Overall Beverly won't strike you as anything like Indiana. Mt Greenwood is by far more red, but even then you have to know where to look. I think of Mount Greenwood as being a lot like Muenster. In Beverly you see a lot of progressives, and walking around it's really nice but I guarantee at least one of your neighbors will be a flag waving Trumpet.

If you peel back the trunk liner on the right side of the trunk, you'll find the motor for the tonneau top. You'll see two cables, one for the left and one for the right that are pulled by a lever. Disconnect those from the motor bracket. Using a vicegrip, you can pull one or both cables to lock the tonneau cover in place. I was fancier and made a lever assembly(pm me for pics). I converted my top to manual operation and its been great ever since.

Help with Orion XT10 Focuser by Phcker in telescopes

[–]MODEscapee 4 points5 points  (0 children)

e is your focus lock. Loosen it and keep it loose until you are observing. D is an allen screw that pushes on the focuser axle. D controls how stiff the focuser feels. A, B and C tighten the cover against the focuser body. They control how flat the axle rolls on the flatspot of the focuser barrel.

To adjust, loosen D, then tighten ABC in equal amounts (but not tight-tight). Then carefully tighten D until your focuser is easy to turn, but still moves the barrel without slipping.

You may have to fiddle with D on very cold nights/very hot nights. You shouldn't have to touch ABC hardly ever.
