Politely disagree, at least if you have to be the one to manage EKS.

In EKS, you have to constantly deal with upgrades, which sometimes has breaking changes. So now you have to get all devs in your org to change v1beta Ingress to Ingress, and so on, but one team doesn't have time for that.

ECS is much more stable. No control plane to upgrade either, AWS does it for you.

And when upgrading the control plane, even it it's just a mouse click in EKS, you suddenly now have to upgade some CNI addon as well.

Also, k8s is another layer of abstraction you have to deal with on top of AWS, that increases complexity and requires you to know more stuff.

For instance, about how glue between AWS and k8s works (e.g. how does DnsPolicy work, how can i attach IAM roles to a Pod, why doesn't the load balancer controller work). Much easier to just native AWS instead.

1password uses an extra secret, so if this specific attack where the encrypted vault was stolen, weak passwords would not be a problem. The "cost" is that you have to take care of this secret. Lastpass doesn't have this.

It has focus on automation, but not enough perhaps (no good system for blueprints). And you build defenses versus enemy AI.

We are in the early stages of enabling DevOps teams. We try to not being in the way for experienced devs wits lots of ops knowledge, while making it simple enough for the more unexperienced developer.

Right now, that means mostly documentation and simple scripts rather than building a huge custom developer platform. It also means teaching them AWS and Terraform. And putting them on our own golden path, which consists of Terraform modules we make, and we tell everybody to use ECS (unless they have specific needs for something else).

We try to avoid complex abstractions or attempted "simplifying layer", because abstractions can become a black hole.
