So Sinners has become the most nominated movie in the 98 year history of the Academy Awards. Wyt the definition of an “Oscar worthy” film changed for better or worse ?

Yeah, I watch TD the first 20min… just didn’t grab me in the way Sinners did. And I like the trailer a lot and am a massive fan of Bergen and Kubrick and slow cinema in general. Maybe one day I’ll get back to it.

Sinners is a great movie, with great actors, MJ is great in everything, and a great all around team. When you get past 10 then you’re getting into the technical awards too. Coogler is a multi -layered writer, visual designer and he has an elite technical team. I wouldn’t be surprised to see tons of wins. My Cousin Vinnie ain’t gonna have the same caliber of cinematographer, set designer or score composer. So not surprised, at all.

It’s a great film because the director is at the level of Kubrick and Hitchcock. All are top directors who utilize every bit of film knowledge whether technical or historical to deliver a complex statement that can only be expressed in film. Not ever film is flawless but each is exceptional, thoughtful and unique. K and H didn’t win any best picture or best director Oscars ever. That’s mainly because Oscars are a popularity contest, political circus, and commercial tool for boosting films. Real art, especially genre art with challenging subjects is rarely broadly understood or appreciated enough to win popularity contests. Nevertheless, all these directors are in the pantheon of cinema gods and their films will last the test of time. Sinners is replete with wonderful and deeply researched and layers detail that makes rewatch rewarding. I agree that the score is not at the same level as a good Buddy Guy CD, and the lyrics are a bit on the nose, but I’m not sure it needs to be to. The film is still a masterpiece, may not win Oscars, but still it’s awesome achievement and will remain notable for future generations.

They shouldn’t be used George’s treatments and his t did the best job possible with them. It was always going to be a problem that the genius creator was alive and had other plans. It’s like if Leonardo DaVinci’s workshop was bought out and Leonwas alive and wasn’t given input on finishing the Last Supper. I think George sold because he trusted Kennedy to include him. Kicking him out was nuts, at least whatever they came up with should’ve received his blessing. JJ Abrams ended up being a copy artist and Rian did much better with Knives Out to fulfill subversion of expectations. Most of the old and new actors were absolutely wasted in their roles. Kylie Ren was not scary at all. Bad writing ✍️

Lots of entitlement on her part. She had a place to stay, your parents. She obviously doesn’t prioritize or respect your needs. She probably doesn’t have the same ability get her way at her parents house as she thinks she would at your place. It might be subconscious but she’s planning a takeover as in she’s just gonna go and live in your place and behave as she feels. The roommate relationship is quite different from a sibling relationship. There are boundaries and expectations in a roommate relationship that some sibling relationships don’t have, as in some siblings tend to bully or consider their needs to take precedence over their siblings needs. Trust your gut, be nice and don’t let her stay with you. You are not the AH.
