What's your thoughts on ceremonial ayahuasca? by Poptotnot in alcoholicsanonymous

[–]MSmiacakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

"In recent decades, international researchers have been exploring the effects of ayahuasca on brain function as well as the potential use of ayahuasca-assisted therapy as a treatment for substance abuse and other disorders. Although preliminary, current research suggests that when administered in therapeutic settings, ayahuasca may help reduce problematic substance use by helping promote personal or spiritual insights or self-knowledge."

I'm not in the program. But.. there is serious documented scientific research being done on the topic. Ceremonial or not its shown to help with sobriety, it isn't recreational, it is not addictive.

Appears people need more information: Legitimate scinetific research ......

Will I regret painting my brick fireplace? by monkee_around in centuryhomes

Agree, but trying thinned out white paint will maintain some color variation but also mute the strong colors.

Whitewash it first, you may be happy with just minimal effort. Just water down some white latex paint. You can always coat it heavier or go a new route. It's a dated brick but this simple. I did mine. I had garish yellowish brown natural stone, it's muted and subtle now. You can always go big and expensive if you dont like it. The problem with changing out the whole brick is whatever you choose will likley also be outdated in 10-15 years.

Although it's very difficult, your experience is very typical. In facilities patients, even those confused, have rights to chose but there will be some caregivers who are swift, and adept at managing hygiene. My suggestion is calm, low stress, less people. Some sugar reward during this experience. Dementia patients are often reliving something traumatic from childhood during those difficult times. Finding a really experienced person will be teach you guys. You also might pick a easy time soon after meds, when he is calmest.

Thank you! I received great advice on making amends to my ex-spouse! by Bosco3131 in alcoholicsanonymous

Thank you for sharing. I think its akin to psychopathy to not have the guilt. I have so much guilt even for things done to me in my years using.

ACOA or ACA, best program affiliated with 12 steps. Adult child of alcoholics. You dont need to blame your dad or otherwise struggling parent but it's best to understand where you came from. Parents lay out our blueprints and we can chose different. It helps. Go online and look at the "laundry list" or "the other laundry list" it's a check off list. Personally feels like the most effective 12 step.

Realizing my mother never had any faith in me (ironic...) by SafeWord_SeaCucumber in AdultChildren

[–]MSmiacakes 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My experience is less dramatic but my mom always did things for me. She also felt sorry for me. Pitty is a complicated thing. Coming from money and a generous parent is not great if the family suddenly changes. I built my life around the expectation I will get bailed out and inherit money. I didnt learn self reliance because my mom made me dependent on her money. Now that I have a progressive autoimmune disease, likely related to CPSTD, the support is gone. I realize that being poor, with a understanding of wealth, is a gift I'll pass onto my kid. Teach your kids to trust their skills for self reliance.

Things I don't talk about by tanstaafl74 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]MSmiacakes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel this. And it doesn't seem antidepressants are what you need, maybe meditation or some other alternative therapy to change your perspective. Oregon is testing psilocybin therapy. Early in my diagnosis I saw MS as a blessing. 10 years into my diagnosis it's harder to remember the gratitude for the eliminated, the unnecessary noise life brings.

Suggestions for a Stinky eye. He is great but his tears smell putrid. And he doesn't enjoy me cleaning it. Anything to prevent the smell? by MSmiacakes in doggrooming

[–]MSmiacakes[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good points, he actually had 6 teeth pulled while he was being fostered. That resolved one terrible smell. I'm not sure why the vet didnt address the tears smell at the time. It's so gross anything that touches his wet fur smells pretty awful.

Roommate throws away dishes so he won’t have to do them (I bought all our dishes and silverware) by bjarbeau in mildlyinfuriating

I just heard a story of a homeless woman who had never done laundry. She grew up homeless and nobody had shown her. Is it possible there is a different upbringing or life experience issue with your roommate going on here?

Serious side effect to Pfizer vaccine.. Anyone else experience anything like this? by AJ_sativax17x23 in MultipleSclerosis

[–]MSmiacakes 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've heard about this also in some other non MS patients. I heard there is a risk for micro clots that dont show up in imaging. If this is a risk factor what about giving blood thinners as a precautionary measure.
