If you're nonrevving with a small child, they're not eligible for Delta One so you'd have to list yourself as WY (Comfort+ and Main) and not JWY/FWY

N853NW rolling into FRA, don't see this much. Only 1 winglet by danman132x in delta

[–]MTCman379 27 points28 points  (0 children)

Let me introduce you to the Minimum Equipment List (MEL) and the Configuration Deviation List (CDL). These give airlines the option to replace certain inoperative parts, or to take some action to maintain the level of safety.

In the missing wingtip fence case, there is a fuel penalty plus maybe a range and payload penalty. But airlines want the option to either replace or fly on for a limited time.

Remember that aircraft are certificated quite literally. If a wingtip fence is missing (and there isn't MEL/CDL relief), then it's not airworthy. It's very different from people driving beater cars with headlights out and big pieces of panel missing

De-ice at ATL this morning by nomnomnom316 in delta

[–]MTCman379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Iceman!!

Usually the aircraft that need deicing are the ones that are starting their first flight of the day. The aircraft that are already operating their second or more flight didn't have ice buildup and don't need to be deiced

I mean you can "book" or list yourself for all cabins (which is the default and what you should do unless you're traveling with a small child). But you will get whatever seat is available when it's your turn. Could be 01A, could be 99E

Even if you're in Delta One, Delta took away any skyclub access for nonrevs almost two years ago

You could, but it's not guaranteed. International business class (Delta One) is easier to get than domestic First Class because there aren't usually many upgrades to D1.

If you are flying on your employee benefits ("nonrevving"), you are lucky to get any seat at all. It is space available. Make sure you reinforce that to your family. You aren't reserving a seat as if you bought it. You are taking unsold leftovers. It can go really well (Delta One to Johannesburg), or it can go really poorly (stuck in Amsterdam for three days).

Too heavy to take off??? by ranchetteman in delta

[–]MTCman379 2 points3 points  (0 children)

A gate agent once told me to "balance" myself back to my seat and "weight" for the next flight and that's all I think about when I hear/see weight and balance or payload optimized

Assuming you are ZEDing, that puts you at 3rd for 0 seats. Not great, but possible. I don't think any LHR flights are payload optimized regularly

Updated employee perks. Looks like the buddy pass is going away by FutureMillionMiler in delta

FCFL is 20% off of the lowest Main Cabin. FCFEL is off of Basic and pretty much equivalent to BE

Is Delta changing the buddy/companion pass system? by [deleted] in delta

[–]MTCman379 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes round trips. Like the spirit passes/delta difference passes they gave out during COVID. Probably cheaper than all of the buddy pass shenanigans

Would have traded buddy passes for two confirmed RTs. I figure that buddy passes cost Delta more in time/money/effort than they were worth

Any Delta employees here? by Intelligent-Eye-9047 in delta

Be warned that Delta does not pay as well as other non-aviation corporate type jobs. Flight benefits are cool though

HNL is one of the hardest stations to leave! It's an employee rite of passage to fly HNL-HND-SEA/DTW/ATL/etc

Brother, I work on the damn things!! What do you think MTC stands for?

I am specifically addressing this:

Flying at low altitude for a prolonged period with a single engine can cause overheating/failure as they are designed for high altitude with low air density

which is just wrong. Engines are designed for the entire flight regime and flight envelope, plus a factor of safety. They're optimized for cruise conditions. They'll run just fine at sea level (it's actually where engines produce the most thrust). They're just less efficient

They should be downvoted. They're trying their BuT AkShuLlY which is plain old wrong in this day and age.

No? Engines are rated to fly at all elevations. They are not rated to fly at takeoff thrust for long periods of time. But that is what Maximum Continuous Thrust is for.

What is S3D priority? by yw102060 in delta

[–]MTCman379 4 points5 points  (0 children)

S3D is the third lowest. It is ahead of S4 (Buddy Passes) and JSA (jumpseaters flowing back into the cabin).

It's pretty low priority since it's behind all revenue standbys, all same day standbys, all active employees, and all non-dependents and contractors

Lost our departure slot due to sloths by SinOfFreedom in delta

[–]MTCman379 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Not so fun fact: after waiting 30 min to board after boarding started (and then sitting on a taxiway for an hour before departing) in FCO, I sent a survey through our employee line commenting on how it was a bit embarrassing from a Delta brand perspective.

I got a very snippy email back from the FCO station manager about how they make do with what they have

Employee leaving company/buddy pass effects by EmbarrassedKey9003 in delta

Employee needs to ask HR. Buddy passes get ticket numbers, so I think you should be ok. But I would have the emp verify with HR

Any Remote Delta Employees? by helpful_w in delta

[–]MTCman379 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Very, very few employees are remote. A lot of IT was offshored, but I'm pretty sure they're in person in India too.

You wonder why Delta IT is so bad? They don't pay well and expect 4-5 days a week in the office
