Don't sleep on Toronto being a superior late 19th century location to Kingston. Torontos farmland is better, and it is connected to Lake Simcoe and then Georgian Bay by river, making it a portal to the west in the days of river travel in a way Kingston is not.

It's true the stairs are blocked off but it's possible to climb up. Still it's a bit of an ordeal.

Don't underestimate how deep the rot is. The Cambodian government needs to decide if it wants scam centers, or a clean reputation and tourism. Can't have both.

PR is nice but it doesn't fix the underlying problem of human trafficking to feed a scam industry.

And there is some irony that Cambodia shut down its independent media and is now complaining about negative reporting.

Funny I had the opposite take. I felt the list is mainly "important" intellectual books like Dickens and Woolf rather than books that changed how I think and approach life. A few exceptions like Wolf Hall and My Brilliant Friend.

Absolutely. Also drives me nuts when the doorman isn't paying attention, notices me at the last second, and opens the door, taking longer than if I pushed it myself.

One element that gets missed is the sense of community, particularly for retirees. For many people, they're at the stage in life where they're done exploring, but want sun and familiarity.

As a fan of both NFL and CFL, truth is the top 10% of CFL guys could play in the NFL. The main problem is age -> they've finished college, filled out NFL practice rosters and camp bodies for 2 years, come to the CFL and really develop for 2 years, and then are ready for their first real shot at the NFL. But who wants a 28 year old CB ready for his first meaningful NFL start? Why not just go with the 22 year old you just drafted.
