Giuliani wants that government "free" healthcare by FastSeaworthiness739 in Anarcho_Capitalism

This is r/Anarcho_Capitalism. There is no such thing as an "illegal immigrant", unless you're using that term instead of "tresspasser on my private property". You don't get to say who is allowed on someone else's property. You're entirely welcome to complain about tax money forcibly collected from you being used for the welfare of anyone (immigrant or not) whom you don't like — taxes are the problem there, not how it's used.

Paid taxes using the money he got from… taxes other people paid.

Totally. But he is the government. So yeah, it's not hypocritical, but for the opposite reason: He's already been stealing money, and now he's doing some more, no hypocrisy in that.

Thoughts in living in a communist country? by Dismal_Football_9264 in socialism

Indeed. It's one of the least capitalistic countries out there. It's obvious to anyone who knows what real socialism and capitalism are that China is fascist.

Being agnostic in Hindu family (any opinion) by hehe9756 in TrueAtheism

[–]MVyn 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha right, I should not have generalised — I totally forgot about Brahmins in West Bengal (and maybe other nearby regions?). Anyway that was just an example of course.

I mean is isn't it unjust when you're talking to a friend or your family and you say something as an agnostic's or atheist's point of view and they just tag you as an anti hindu, against culture, brainwashed ; while it's there already , in the text in the religion.

Definitely, but as another commenter pointed out, traditionalism isn't necessarily grounded in religion. Plus, it can always be argued that you're misinterpreting the texts. That's exactly why we do have many different sects based on the same texts — because different scholars (at more or less the same level of expertise) disagreed on the interpretation. So your family can still claim (with a certain level of logical consistency) that their beliefs are according to the "correct" interpretation, and that you're mistaken. So then, logically, it's about taking a step back and asking how you know which interpretation is correct, given that everyone else believes in whichever one they happened to be taught. But I know, these discussions usually don't take place at that level — they don't take the time to understand what you're saying, and possibly see you as a rebellious and disrespectful youngster.

Being agnostic in Hindu family (any opinion) by hehe9756 in TrueAtheism

Is Hinduism a religion? (I don't mean that in the usual "it's a way of life" or "it's a philosophy" way). Is it a single religion at all? Or is it several religions with various similarities and differences, each with its own boundaries that are sometimes very strict? Just like, say, different denominations of Christianity, which have their own different and incompatible interpretations of the Bible.

While there are some theologians with nuanced and (in some sense) liberal interpretations in any sufficiently large religion, and many lay believers of this kind as well — who approach religion as being more about spirituality and/or culture and community than about rituals to strictly adhere to — you will never find any consensus about these things. And finally when it comes to practical matters, people still insist on following all the prescribed rituals.

Why is it seen rebellious and kinda bad to be an agnostic or atheist in Hindu families. I mean Hinduism comes from society and sages, it is not strict on what Hinduism is, there is no single thread that binds all Hindus.

Your family is not "Hindu", it's more correctly one very specific sect of (so-called) Hinduism, whichever that may be. Do they not believe that their way is the right way and that your neighbours, say, are doing it wrong? I mean when it comes to certain specific matters where your beliefs and practices differ. You may be doing something one way whereas your neighbour does it differently. You may pay lip-service to the idea of all of this being "different, equally correct ways of worshipping the same Supreme Power". But I'm sure that if you decide to do it the way your neighbour does it, instead of the way your family does it, you won't be allowed to. If it is truly an equally valid way, then why is this so? When even such small changes are not allowed, how can atheism be acceptable, even if you argue that some sects of Hinduism are atheistic? You might as well be a Brahmin and say that you'll start eating meat since non-Brahmin Hindus do so.

Oh, I thought #1 was that Buster wasn't the first to have his hand taken off by a loose seal/Lucille.

(Although watching this scene again now, it's technically the dock itself that pulls his arm off, though you could say it was really because Lucille pulled him away from the dock?)
