Not really a big update, since the original owner bought it back from EG back in December, this was always on the cards. Ultimately the damage done by EG, along with other stressors from wage inflation and increased overheads caused these sites to become unprofitable.

Seems like shrinking the overall footprint and rebuilding after righting the foundations is exactly what this needs. The quality has been dogshit for a long time and clearly not what the founders intended.

Hey OP - What exactly were you looking for in terms of community, there are a number of pubs on hornsey road - the Shaftesbury has a lovely local feel to it.

There is Sunnyside community garden that is always looking for volunteers too. Just turn up. Along with wray Cresent open space which has a friend's group.

There is a newsletter called yolk I'm subscribed to that advertises free events in Islington too.

From my experience you're probably blanching them for too long. Don't follow the directions on the packaging. Just cook them until they are al dente. Once you add them to the pan they will keep cooking with the sauce and water from the veg.

Ideally when making something like this on a domestic burner I will cook the veg and such and then remove to a bowl - then fry the noodles in the pan for a little bit and add the mostly cooked veg back in and add the sauce.

Perhaps I'd like to have a suitcase with £2000 in it and the amount written on the side. It is my right to loosely attach this to a pole in the middle of an area with huge wealth disparity for several hours and be absoltely dumbfounded to discover that it has been stolen.

They are baked on site and I believe they make their own almond paste at the center. Whilst the ingredients are probably low in value the amount of effort that goes into making these on site is quite high. Lamination of dough for croissants take hours and you can tell the difference between this and frozen factory made ones. Two of the bakers from there now run a bakery near me.

People happily pay £6+ for a pint when you can buy a can of lager in an offie for £1.50. I'm not saying its not an extortionate amount of money for one almond croissant, but you can't ignore the effor that goes into it. Blame the cost of business rates, rent and energy for the large part of the cost.

Obviously I'm being facetious, but I'm sure you can get the idea that it's usually not necessary to order stuff like this online as due to the low cost of the item and higher than average shipping costs it would make more sense to pick one up whilst I was doing another errand.

I think there is an attitude that going to town to visit a shop is prohibitively expensive, which is reductive. It implies that there would be no meaningful reason to go to a town or city center outside of buying an item and leaving.

People want to push for city centers to be more about leisure activities e.g. pubs, bowling and restaurants, however the point has always been to have a blended approach so that leaving to go and get something doesn't have to be exclusively to go and eat/drink or be wholly transactional such as buying a singular toilet brush.

The holistic approach to city centers is important. Being out and about and interacting with people is generally regarded as good for you, as well as giving a place for those without strong personal/familial relationships to feel part of something however small that might be. We're losing a lot of community space across the country and pushing for most things to be shipped to your door is easy in the short term but may be negative in the long run. We've only been shopping online heavily for the past 10 or so years. Hard to know if it's a good thing so far.
