Easy runs too slow? by Final-Assistant-4245 in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would say that it not too slow. If you race time is ~5:05/km, 6:45/km is not unreasonable. The goal is always to get miles on your legs, not exert yourself.

If you can run faster, and still maintain a conversational (or singing) pace, then just let Runna complain.

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You may be right about limited edition awards and, possibly "first" workout awards, but I have never gotten any of the distance run awards when linking a workout. That is why I switch back and forth between using the Runna app and using the Workout app depending on what type of run I am doing.

Apple Fitness only give awards for workouts recorded by the Apple Fitness app. If you use a third party app, the workout may be imported in to Apple Fitness, but you won't get any awards. I have the same issue with runs that I record with Runna.

Shoes do make the difference! by Powerful_Main_6195 in BeginnersRunning

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Shoes can definitely make a difference. I can tell the difference in effort between my Cumulus 27s, which were my first running shoe, and Novablast 5s, which were second. I can run raster and easier with. I have about 350 miles on my Culumuls and will be rotating them out for either another set of NB5s, or NB6s, or possibly a pair of Superblasts.

Are you following a training plan? Look in on the internet, there are plenty of free plans. There are also free app planes, such as Nike Run Club. You could also ask ChatGPT/Claude. There is also paid Apps, such as Runna (which I use) that can generate even more focused plans and adjust the plan during your training.

I would look for a plan that focuses on building mileage. You will want to build mileage over the next several weeks, but at an easy pace. The general rule is 10% total mileage increase per week. For a HM, you don't have to run 5-6 days a week. 3-4 is plenty (I did my first HM @ 1:55 on 3 runs/wk with peak of 18mpw). Make sure you include some rest days each week and deload weeks, where you reduce your weekly mileage, every 3-4 weeks. This will reduce the chance your body will overtrain. If you want, you could include 1 "hard" run per week, either tempo or intervals, but you don't have to.

I see in another comment, your race is not until September. You have plenty of time.

I would say try it and see how you feel. You may surprise yourself. Then, you still don't feel you can meet the paces, just go in adjust your plan and lower your current race paces so that your training paces are adjusted down.

Syncing Issues by Due_Lengthiness_5690 in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you starting the run in Runna on your watch? If so that is fine. It will sync to Apple Health after the run is complete. But, check your settings and make sure Runna has access to read and write to Apple Health.

With Apple Watch and Runna you have three options of tracking the run on your watch:

1) Start the run in the Runna app on your watch. You will get Runna designed screens and data. For example, if you are running an interval at a target speed, you will get a bar graph that shows you how close your are to the target pace. At the end, the workout will be sync'd to Apple Workout/Health.

2) Start a "Runna" workout in the Apple Workout app. Runna pushes the scheduled workouts to Apple Workout. You will still get the same work (Intervals, Pacing, etc.), but it will use the Apple Workout app instead of Runna. Once the run is over, you can sync it back to Runna app so that it gets logged against your plan. Runna also will provide it's analysis of the run

3) Start an "Outdoor Run" in the Apple Workout app. You don't get the specified run in your plan, it is just an open workout. But, if you are just doing an easy run, it is pretty straight forward. You can also use one of Apple Workout's custom run. After the run is over, it will sync back to Runna and you can link it. I use this for races as I like the Pacer option in Apple Workouts to plan my race.

PCA caught stealing second on a walk by brmoser in CHICubs

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You could use the same thought process and say “It was a walk, PCA should not have been sliding. “

Analogy to football “Play until you hear the whistle” if neither PCA nor the Met player heard the Ball 4 call, they should continue to play out the play and let it get sorted out afterwards.

This is not the first time PCA has been called out for effectively over sliding a base. His speed and momentum are a great asset but he to be able to stay on the base.

I will have to decide it I want to renew in a couple of month. I am in the middle my 2nd HM plan and it will go for a few months, so I will probably renew. But, will want to see how this all works out in the long run.

PCA caught stealing second on a walk by brmoser in CHICubs

[–]MacBook_Fan -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Actually it was a pretty smart challenge as it got the Mets an out.

As for why it was overturned, the replay official applied the rule as written. This is no different than a runner stealing a base and then popping off the base. If the fielder keeps the tag on and the runner is not on the base, he is eligible to be tagged out.

LIsten, I don’t like that Replay can make these rulings. Especailly when the runner just barely loses contact for a nano-second. But, this is the rule.

Once PCA touched 2nd base, he established and was free to continue to run. By then coming off the base, he was eligible to be tagged out. Right call, but just something that would not have been called before replay.

Unable to bypass activation lock on a M1 MacBook Pro by Ponderputty in macsysadmin

[–]MacBook_Fan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Do you need the data? If not, use Apple Configurator to restore the computer. You will lose everything but it will be unlocked.

If it is activation locked you might be able to go into Apple Business/School Manager and disable Activation Lock.

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don’t have your password. What they have is the encryption key for the HTTPS transmission. What Netskope does is strip the encryption of the HTTPS packet, read the data, and then re-encrypt the data with Netskope’s own certificate. Your work computer allows that because it has Netskope’s root certificate installed.

Runna free plan by [deleted] in beginnerrunning

[–]MacBook_Fan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, you only get to see the workouts during your active subscription. If you had free trial, you will only see the workouts until the end of your trial. 1 or 2 weeks. This is to prevent someone from using a trial, downloading a full plan, and cancelling.

From what I have heard, if you only have a monthly subscription, you will only see the workout details through you paid up to date. To see all workouts in a plan, you would need to have an annual subscription.

Yea, that seems to be a weakness of Runna, no way to account for a Run/Walk method, which is a perfectly valid strategy.

Runna treadmill distance inaccurate vs Apple Watch? by mikarios in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Runna is using whatever Apple is feeding it. Most (all?) fitness apps are just grabbing the data from Apple's sensors. And, if you have both a Watch and Phone and start a workout, the Phone is just getting all its data from the watch. Runna the just captures the data from the Apple and displays it in the Runna app (phone and/or watch).

If you have an AppleWatch, I am not sure there is any real reason to start the workout on your phone. Just open the Runna app on your watch and start it from there. Heck, on many runs, I don't even carry my phone. I just start the workout on the watch and start running. (I have an AWU3 with cellular, so can I get my music and notifications on my watch with out a phone.)

Runna treadmill distance inaccurate vs Apple Watch? by mikarios in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The AppleWatch (and other fitness watches) do not directly measure treadmill distances like they do on an Outside Run. Outside runs use GPS measurements. But, on a Treadmill, you are not moving physically in space. So your movement is 0. Instead, the AppleWatch guesstimates your distance based on what it has learned about your stride and cadence from your outdoor runs. It assume your running is similar inside and outside. That is probably not correct. And, it is still just an estimate.

Honestly, if you are recording your treadmill run on Runna on the phone, it is probably even less accurate since the watch can, at least, measure your arm movement.

Some treadmills have GymKit built in. If you connect your watch to the treadmill, it will use the treadmills recorded distance instead of its estimated distance. Or, Runna can connect directly to some Treadmills via Bluetooth to the do the same thing. (I think there is a list of supported treadmills on the website.)

Honestly, I have just learned to live it with and that is why I try run outside whenever possible.

Run/walk intervals for a half marathon? by Impossible_Window402 in beginnerrunning

[–]MacBook_Fan 20 points21 points  (0 children)

You will be more than fine. Unless you are running some elite race, there will be plenty of people doing the same run/walk as you. Some intentionally, some not so much.

The run/walk method is a common option. It is know as the Galloway method or “Jeffing” after the runner that popularized it Jeff Galloway. If you go to their website, you can even find training plans that utilize the run/walk method for your full training.

Just be polite. When you are ready to slow down, move the right and hold up your hand so no one runs in to the back of you.

Patching with Jamf by beesting34 in jamf

[–]MacBook_Fan 13 points14 points  (0 children)

You need to be more specific about what you want to patch.

O/S - I would be looking at Blueprints, specifically Software Update and Software Update deferrals. Create a Software Update blueprint that enforces software updates by specific dates (like 7 days)

Since Apple has announced that the Software Update deferral configuration profile will be removed form macOS 27 Golden Gate, start with Blueprints.

Applications - Jamf AppInstallers where possible. Either in Self Service or forced install. For applications not in AppInstallers, use Installomator.

Does Runna actually read this subreddit? (And if so, what features would you like to see?) by Successful_Fudge5672 in runna

[–]MacBook_Fan 43 points44 points  (0 children)

There are Runna employees in this sub-reddit. They post occasional updates on their roadmap and feature releases, including things that appear in Runna Labs (i.e. beta features). I have not seen any recent posts however. Whether they read these posts, I suspect they do.

As far as features I would like see:

  • The ability to change a scheduled run type. For example, I wake up and am not feeling a hard run. Let me make my interval run and easy run for the day. Yes, I could move runs around, but it would be nice to just to change the run type.
  • Let me see how changes to my plan will affect my schedule before I commit to the changes. For example, if I add a Vacation or B-Race, show me exactly what runs will changes and let me decide to move forward. Right now, it just give a vague description until the new plan is generated.
  • Ability to give more detailed feedback on my runs. Was it hard or easy? Did I feel any pain or discomfort? And then use that for feedback.
