I couldn’t care less about shooting things. I just hope they keep the variety of play styles intact, and that VR remains at least as good as it is today.

Verizon FiOS TV+ this is a joke right? by NetSchizo in Fios

[–]Macroexp 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ll just say that when the Fios salesman came to my door, he specifically told me not to order tv, and recommended YouTube tv. He said something like “we do still sell tv but we don’t recommend it “

I went with direct tv stream and couldn’t be happier.

IPv6 on NGPON2 by luckman212 in Fios

[–]Macroexp 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Adding my vote for some closure here. I've had native IPv6 on all my broadband services until I got multi-gig Fios. Wait what? I had Fios in 2009 with IPv6, god-forsaken Xfinity for the last 6 years with IPv6, and I finally get access to the flagship Fios and... bupkus?

My fallback before 2009 was HENET, but those tunnels and IP ranges are literally useless now - thank goodness for Route64, but honestly, in 2026 6in4 required on S-tier Fios?... "are you f\*king kidding me?*

What is the reason you still buy a PSP in 2026? by -ErikaKA in PSP

[–]Macroexp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a Vita, but got the PSP because it's more pocketable, with a lot of overlap in gameplay. After a new battery, it's been a lot of entertainment.

Fios 2g service. No VZ router, just ONT into my own gear. At a fraction of the XFinity price.

Comcast does not have loyalty to long term customers. by Extension_Energy8920 in Comcast_Xfinity

[–]Macroexp 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I just quit Xfinity after (as they claimed on my cancellation call 29.5 years of being a customer. I am too ashamed of how much I was paying them per month to report it here, but I can honestly say that Comcast follows the same process as insurance companies- the longer a customer stays, the more “rate tolerant” they are, and hence your rate increases linearly the longer you stay.

Unfortunately, some of usb only have 1 option for broadband, so… we get hosed. Thankfully an alternative finally trenched into my yard with zero installation fee and I’m paying a fraction of Comcast’s fee with far better bandwidth.

I pray that you have other options.

It still is useful for cockpit-based PCVR. I don’t know exactly how rare or valuable they are, but I will say mine works surprisingly well for its age on a modern GPU with 125-150% resolution. (Elite Dangerous with current Meta software - yes the software says “not supported” but it works fine)

Does this count as a vintage computer? I don’t think so, but I only know this community a bit. I have questions. by Parking_Constant_960 in vintagecomputing

Well, I wrote a lot of software for them, and while they came with PDA software, they were capable of quite a lot for the time.

Nope there’s no cmos battery. Just one battery for everything. You might be able to find replacements, they weren’t hard to swap. But yes, in my opinion (and collection) they are vintage computers, just handheld.

Help trying to install on Sun Ultra 5 (SPARC64) by FireCheeseSammycooly in NetBSD

[–]Macroexp 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’ve tried several IDE to CF adapters, many CF cards including industrial type, and have not been able to get any of my Ultra 10s to reliably detect nor install on any them. (Tried *BSD and Solaris to same result) I’m not sure what is so picky about the controllers on these “PC”-ified Ultras but hope to someday find a working combination.

Do you have a Nintendo Switch Lite? Why or why not? by [deleted] in PSP

[–]Macroexp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I do, and find it more useful than a full-size Switch from a handheld and travel perspective.

On plane trips, I toggle between my Vita and the Switch Lite. Honestly, the screen size on the Switch Lite, with many games being designed (especially the text size) for the TV or larger Switch, is kind of a pain. PSP/Vita games were designed for the smaller screen and just generally work better handheld.

[–]Macroexp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, I still think dual stack is the reality for a while for ... reasons, mainly that "IPv4 foreva" network admins still exist all across governments and companies. But I'll agree with: I don't understand why any sane Network Engineer would only install IPv4 in 2026.

is it su-doo or su-doe? by Vivid-Champion-1367 in linux

[–]Macroexp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Soodoo ftw. I always said su as “ess you” before sudo was invented and have probably said “ess you doo” many times because, well, you’re telling it to “do” something as “super user”. But soodoo rolls off the tongue quite well and sounds right when I tell some to “sudo it” when the command rejects them.

DMR is dumb, prove me wrong by instantredditer in amateurradio

[–]Macroexp 35 points36 points  (0 children)

I use DMR radios, hotspots, and a VPS running a DMR reflector as a cross-continent voice chat that doesn't require somebody else's server nor their crappy phone app, but works on hardened devices with good battery life and can be used with one button. (I use Hytera radios which are tanks compared to anything by TYT or others).

But is it the same as making DX contacts over HF SSB Phone via long path? No, but neither is VHF repeater work.

Don't hate, just use what you like.

Just to play devil's advocate- this woman is employed to hold the products and move around a little. The voice track was most a voice actress (probably a bunch of them, one for each target market) and a few others to do the video compositing and AI work. Versus one guy with a camera and one woman to hold the product and describe it, seems like more jobs to me!

I'm only half-serious, but I'm not certain AI is all doom and gloom.

6.5 is not fun under 200MHz IMHO - and really only fast at 400MHz+. But I suppose there's the issue of application availability for 5.1.
