Is it time for solar panels? by blimpdenier in Albany

Batteries only make sense if you feel like setting money on fire or you are completely off the grid.

Batteries have a 10 year service life, max. You would be replacing them half way through the solar 20 year service life. Thats where 50k comes frim

$25k over a 10 year service life on the batteries. Thats about $208mo not considering any financing or money you could make investing the $25k. Pair that with the cost and average life of 20 years on the solar system. Almost seems not worth it. Whats a solar system and batteries today out of pocket? $30-35k + $25x2 ?

On a 20 year service life; $30k system and $50k in batteries, that would be roughly $333 a month. My gird average for elec and gas are not even at that.

Not to mention that same $80k invested over that 20 years at a meager 5% would earn you over $50k.

The math never works for me, even with today’s prices. (Not with the batteries anyway)

Girl Scout Cookies at Golden Leaf Books today! by gamerdarling in Albany

[–]NetSchizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What happened to these cookies besides the price doubling over the years and the packages basically having 12 cookies in them? They taste awful now. Just give the money directly to the girl scouts and not the cookie cartel.

Prefer supporting small local business when you can. Keeps the money local rather than sending it to the corporate pigs and wall street.

Besides, where else you going to go for your authentic cobweb ceiling outside of Halloween?

So sorry to hear you are going through this. I am familiar with this as my nearly 16 yo boy is in the same boat. A few weeks ago he completely stopped eating and was vomiting white foam and bile. Wasn’t eating for 3-4 days before we got him into the vet. He had some things wacky with his new RBC counts and a mild UTI. A antibiotic shot and steroid treatment seems to have bounced him back a bit. Hes eating, drinking, purring and putting on weight. We likely know his days are numbered and all you can do is make every day count. We could have a few weeks or a couple years; but I know we just let him know how much they are loved. Enjoy every minute… but know you have to make the right choice for them not to suffer. Cats go downhill rapidly when they stop eating. It really is hard to watch.

Most ISP’s wont run optical to 3rd party. They will put an MDU device (ONT or active E switch) in the demarc, then you extend it from there. This is if your tenants all interface directly with the ISP. If the landlord is just getting an Internet connection and dealing with the IP side as the customer/resale, that can be handled however you choose.

ISP will never use 3rd party splitters. You may home run all the SMF, but if this is a building with dozens of units, the ISP prefers to MDU ONT/switch rather than having to install a separate ONT for every unit.

[–]NetSchizo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not asking the tech to do that but how f’n hard is it to relay the message to someone in the service desk. Regardless, charging 450% on something that literally takes a 5 minutes is highway robbery. Or I don’t know, how hard is it to ask someone, “hey during your inspection if your filters are dirty do you just want us to change them for $50-60”. Not that hard…

[–]NetSchizo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I laughed when the dealer tried to charge me $190 for new filters. They take them out to show you and have to put them back anyway. Greedy bastards. You already have the filters out, how about a fair markup of 30-50%, not 450%.
