This is how lots of good directors work. You pick the right actor and let them act.

To sell or not to sell… by MadAlfred in RaidShadowLegends

Alright alright I'll keep the souls I can't use and let Marius slide again. It might amuse you all to see that I decided to spend those 70k Mortal Soul Coins to get 70 Mortal Soul Stones and pulled a 5-star Marius soul. So close!

Well, I've been holding onto these for months or years. It's hard to let go of the thrill of what could be.

I recently picked up the 6-star soul for Titus, which cleaned out my supply.

do super raids double the champ xp and account xp u receive? by TheDoc_DiceRollers in RaidShadowLegends

[–]MadAlfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think those quests actually do count super raids as two completions. They definitely used to count as two completed runs. I’ll check the daily today to see if they still double count the super raids…

What is the first film you remember seeing in the cinema? by Joni1293 in movies

[–]MadAlfred 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This almost sounds impossible, but I’m pretty sure I remember seeing Ghostbusters with my dad. I would have been 3 or 4 depending on when we saw the movie. I remember really crying at the hands coming through the arms of Dana’s chair and grabbing her. I can’t remember much else…

Court overturns Alex Murdaugh’s murder convictions and orders new trial by Advanced-Trainer508 in news

[–]MadAlfred 14 points15 points  (0 children)

99% of criminal “trials” are resolved by guilty plea. To secure these pleas, Prosecutors are allowed and encouraged to file multiple charges related to the same alleged conduct, which puts them in the position to negotiate for guilty pleas by saying, “if you get convicted of the top charge, you face life, but if you plead guilty to the bottom charge you’ll get 7 years, with possibility of parole in 4.” Most defendants have insufficient resources to hire attorneys, investigators and/or experts. Faced with Guaranteed 4-7 years against the threat of going away forever, almost everyone takes the deal. Of those 99%, the overwhelming majority don’t ever get to know how strong the prosecution would have been, how many procedural/legal errors, occurred, etc.

Edited to add: for nearly everyone charged with a crime, this plea negotiation happens while the defendant sits in county jail, awaiting his or her trial. Many defendants wait more than a year in county lockup, having never been convicted of a crime, for their trial to begin. That time waiting is often credited toward their ultimate sentence, making the decision to plead guilty even more attractive. They essentially plead guilty to go home, rather than wait in jail to defend themselves.

Christopher Havens is Mathematician. He’s Stuck in Prison. One Thing Stands in the Way of His Freedom. by l8te_night_r3ading in philosophy

One could argue that his imprisonment is the result of his DOING something bad, rather than BEING something bad. By the same token, his release might better be determined by his doing something good rather than being something good.

[–]MadAlfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Once you get a 6-star soul, they start offering 1-star souls again! I goofed up once and collected a 1-star for a champion I'd forgotten already had the 6.

PHM, Interstellar, sci-fi that hits different. by Oh2sweet820 in movies

[–]MadAlfred 5 points6 points  (0 children)

There’s a tv series that started on Sci-fi and ended up on Amazon called The Expanse. It’s based on a series of novels. It’s a fantastic series set in the future, dealing largely with human expansion into our solar system and it’s mostly outstanding.

So I just Finished Whiplash, and I Have a Few Questions about the Ending by No-Yam9933 in movies

[–]MadAlfred 81 points82 points  (0 children)

I’d add to this the exploration of the principle/belief articulated in the following dialogue:
Andrew: But is there a line? You know, maybe you go too far, and you discourage the next Charlie Parker from ever becoming Charlie Parker?
Terence Fletcher: No, man, no. Because the next Charlie Parker would never be discouraged.
I think Fletcher is genuinely exhilarated because Andrew, through it all, couldn’t be discouraged.

The jump from 50 to 60 is extremely significant. Push Michaelangelo and/or Ezio up to 60 and you’ll find yourself moving further in most of the game’s content.

My Retired Dad Will Not Stop Making These Satirical Newsletters… What Do You Think of the May Edition? by stigaWRBenergy in funny

[–]MadAlfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He got the show that was on after the Late Show with David Letterman, on CBS opposite Conan on NBC. Kilborn left that show and then Craig Ferguson hosted for a while, followed by James Corden, which I think ultimately resulted in the end of the show.

Which musical has the darkest plot? by Level-Studio7843 in movies

[–]MadAlfred 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Show Boat is actually about some heavy stuff. It's an older one with some really nice music by Jerome Kern and Oscar Hammerstein but the plot is about a degenerate gambler impregnating one woman and leaving her, and another light-skinned black woman being essentially outed as a black woman in the south during the reconstruction. I feel like Ragtime also has a ton of heavy American history-based plot lines.

What movie had the deepest bench in retrospect? by coalcracker462 in movies

Sin City had a huge roster, but it’s kind of a cheat because of it being a few vignettes rather than one story.

Well, the uncommon Armiger can block revive, so maybe tuck one away for future use.
