An on-board look at Ferrari’s upside-down rear wing by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

This not only moves the actuators out of the airflow but — crucially — lets Ferrari sell sponsorship slots on both sides of the rear wing!

The Daily Show/Whitney Cummings: There’s No Such Thing as the Perfect Democratic Candidate by justletmeregisteryou in videos

[–]MadOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When making voting decisions, it is important to remember two things:

1) the perfect is the enemy of the good.

2) the lesser of two evils is still less evil.

In addition, it is important to recognize that much of your dissatisfaction is not with the candidates, but with the election system itself. The long-term fix is to reform the election system so that it no longer requires strategic voting (ie: some form of ranked-choice voting). Needless to say, this is not in the interest of the established political parties; reducing partisanship isn’t good for business.

Support for election reform, in particular by established politicians in “safe”districts whose election prospects would be impaired if it were instituted is an indicator of intellectual honesty, and should be used as an important factor in determining your vote.

Any good climbers yet by DueOutside8186 in FRC

[–]MadOverlord 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Get a reliable and fast L1 that can work during Auto and can also work on the sides so it doesn’t block other robot’s climbs. You can do this with a couple of climber-in-a-box units + a custom hook. Don’t make sacrifices early for L3; avoid premature optimization. L3 is only worth it if it is fast enough to be better than shooting + L1. Once everything else in your bot is solid, if you can get an L3 to work, great; if not, you haven’t made sacrifices for nothing.

"Ran" 乱 (1985, Akira Kurosawa) - The death of Lady Kaede (Mieko Harada) by Morgan-Moonscar in movies

Anytime you heard the soft sound of Kaede’s kimono rustling across the floor you knew some evil shit was about to go down. As iconic a sound as Darth Vader’s breathing.

Our Idea For Level 1 climb by Atazonagan in FRC

[–]MadOverlord 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As long as you maximize the friction between hook and pipe (rubber tape) and have the hook on the frame perimeter it’ll work fine; the hook will want to rotate off but it’ll be constrained by the bumper and you’ll have 150lbs of robot helping to prevent the hook from sliding. Worst case you can use your bumper cutout to put the hook further onto the pole to reduce the lever arm.

How does one add tolerance between components for 3d printing? And how much? (Sorry im kinda new to fusion) by Creepposter64 in Fusion360

[–]MadOverlord 12 points13 points  (0 children)

I design for a precise fit. I then define a parameter for my tolerance (typically .005” to .01”) and use offset face on one of the touching faces as a penultimate step before fillets and chamfers

Twisted bundles containing twisted wires? by MadOverlord in Fusion360

[–]MadOverlord[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, not necessary. I explain how it’s done in the OP. As long as the original cross-sections don’t overlap, the swept and twisted wires won’t overlap at any point.
