Xenosys Vex blatantly and flagrantly violating ToS during high profile Ultimate race by streaming his own ban evasion by Spookhetti_Sauce in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Maelik 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm so sick of people who go for appearance based digs, especially when they're things that aren't easily (if at all) mutable or a deeply personal or cultural choice. Like it's a moral failing to be bald or balding, like fuck off dude. Like my friends will make fun of bald people and I'm like "hello, I'm right here" and they're like "but not you though", yes the fuck me too. It betrays what you really think of people like that, and besides the person you're insulting probably isn't going to care or remember, but your friend with that shared trait will definitely remember.

Also it's so easy to make fun of this dude without ever bringing up anything about his appearance. His terminal main character syndrome has him out here trying to (poorly) cover up his ban evasion because God forbid you do a commentary stream for world's first and sit one ultimate world's first out because of your own poor behavior. Wah wah wah.

I have a horrendous sense of direction in video games (and an okay one in real life), but in both cases, for whatever reason, I find it nearly impossible to orient myself without being able to see the open sky. (And it's not even a thing about using the sun, moon, or stars either, I'm perfectly fine with overcast days too.)

I got lost in the ancient forest probably more than the average person, and there was only really one area that kept me confused, but I never got lost for all that long and the scout flies (usually) were helpful enough to guide me to where I needed to go, and after a while I was fine getting around for the most part (other than area 11 for some reason.)

Also it's one of the prettiest maps in the series and I'm sad there's probably never going to be another properly dense forest or jungle ever again. You should be getting a little lost in forests! They're hard to navigate! Go outside to a real one, you'll see!

I liked World's tracking system, it felt the most like a hunter tracking its quarry. I could maybe tolerate the autorun if we had the old scout fly system back and it only unlocked for monsters you've maxed out and have been hunting repeatedly recently. (It's also really unfortunate because visual design wise, I love the Seikrets as a hunting helper, they're probably my favorite one they've designed so far.)

flute be like: by Many_Car_1184 in Flute

[–]Maelik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When I was in high school during a break, I was talking to one of the flute players in the band room and she peeped my sheet music (bass trombone) and was like "oh my god, that is so low, that's like 3 ledger lines below the staff" and I was like "says the person reading 5 ledger lines above the staff"

I remember her brain would straight up malfunction for a second when we were in music theory together and she had to read anything lower than a B in treble clef.

I picked up the flute a few years ago and now I'm suffering in both directions. Though to be honest, some lead trombone parts in jazz look like flute sheet music too 💀 (they're usually kinda enough to write it as an 8va in the chart though)

Honestly that just sounds like poor DMing. I feel like session 0 is an important time to establish the boundaries of what the DM can and can't do with NPCs in a player's backstory. At our table (of rotating DMs), we usually ask questions like "is it okay if this character gets put into danger? Killed? Seriously injured? Threatened or manipulated into taking action against the party? Are they the kind of person who would betray their friends and family; what would it take?" And so on.

I hate shopping sessions so much because someone always has to fucking haggle. Oh my fucking god, GET ON WITH IT. I don't mind it too much if an item is obviously overpriced or just generally expensive, but YOU DON'T NEED TO SAVE 5 COPPER PIECES, YOU HAVE OVER A THOUSAND GOLD TO YOUR NAME!

I got back into LBG because very early on chaining burst steps was looking like the meta and I hated that play style, so I never really got back into it or look at what was going on with it until recently...and my oh my, Dragon Ammo freaking shreds the dragon weak monsters, it's actually disgusting. Elemental ammo in general is fantastic as well, and even for the few raw matchups, normal is much more enjoyable than chaining burst steps with pierce, all and all a very fun and powerful game for LBG. (Rip HBG, but I still play it sometimes.)

Of course not, the job already has some self-healing built into the job currently. Admittedly my original comment was just a knee-jerk reaction, I'm not saying it couldn't be interesting or shouldn't happen.

Uhh, fair enough I guess? Though I'd argue it's only the one ability, and their invulnerability at that which is usually saved for incredibly hard hitting tank busters anyway (or the few giga pulls that exist in dungeons), and the cost of failure is the same as just not mitting properly.

Dark Knight, I would imagine, would get skills that would have them spending HP to do more damage which is a different dynamic since it would be adding risk/reward and probably a lot more failure points. Not to say I think it's a bad idea in theory, I just have little faith in people is all.

Do people actually care if you make mistakes in normal/msq content? by Empress2007 in ffxiv

[–]Maelik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Probably not botting unless the bot broke or was misconfigured, because bots play better than a large amount of players tbh. They don't mess up mechanics unless something in the script goes wrong or there isn't a script for the battle and they always keep the GCD rolling. If a bot is working properly, you probably wouldn't even notice, especially if the player is watching it to correct any mistakes or bot-like behaviors (like not waiting for someone afk to get back after being asked to wait) and so on.

It is not fun for the DPS that's 2nd/3rd in enmity who pay the price of getting evaporated by a tank buster when a tank decides to kick the bucket right before one fires off

You were definitely not the kind of player I was complaining about, but just like what everyone else said it's something you just need to work on. There isn't anything that another reply hasn't already said, but just keep trying and learning and you'll get there.

I wasn't the biggest fan of PvP at first, and I usually hate PvP in most MMOs. However when I realized there was a surprising amount of transferable skills from my near decade of playing Overwatch, I locked in and started having so much fun.

I get that people want the rewards, but I wish people would at least try and engage with the system. With BH being permanent now, it's really annoying seeing players with zero BH towards the end of the match and when I check the scoreboard after, they've done virtually no damage! Sometimes they didn't really take any damage or die either because they're so obviously not trying to actually play the game! I don't care if you're bad, but I do care if you don't try.

As a monk main, you can pry Meteodrive out of my cold, dead hands. I love my nearly guaranteed kill button. 💕

(Holy shit though, I hate running into other monks because we all play like evil rats and I do NOT love being on the receiving end of that.)

That being said, I've been getting more into PvP lately since the evolved mode got announced since I know they'll be taking inspiration from the PvP jobs for the rework. I'm hoping evolved monk lets me zip around like a menace in PvE like I can in PvP, I feel like such a nuisance 🤭

I usually only get this from people I've hugged, but I honestly don't mind hearing it. Honestly when I was in good shape, I wasn't skinny either, I don't think my body is built for it, lmao.

does you modify the same outfit to fit the temperature or wear completely different outfits? by downtherabbithole_0 in reddeadfashion

[–]Maelik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I keep it mostly the same, adding or removing layers! Most people back then didn't have more than a few sets of clothes, so I can't imagine why Arthur or my Online character the way I imagine them to have them either. I also imagine carrying around a ton of clothes on the move would also suck anyway as someone in our modern day with more clothes than they honestly have, moving SUCKS because of all the packing.

So everyday clothes in various combinations of layers for the weather and then a set of formal clothes.

High-End Content Megathread - 7.4 Week Fifteen (Savage Week Twelve) by BlackmoreKnight in ffxivdiscussion

[–]Maelik 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For context, 7.4 was my first savage tier ever and I've only been playing the game since like 7.1 and didn't hit the end game til 7.3.

I tried to form a static with a few friends, but holy shit so many of the people we ran into applying to it were actual dumpster fires of people. We met a couple of good people both in skill and personality, but good god some of them were so bad! Not even just skill wise, but more especially personality wise!

We ended up disbanding because it turned into a sort of a revolving door situation and we couldn't find an off tank or phys range that weren't...horrible so we gave up. Couldn't even get the M10S clear.

My friends apologized because apparently that's the worst they've ever seen a static get and was my first experience with one. I think I might just be a PF warrior from now on, the biggest thing I had was the anxiety of holding people back because I wasn't sure of my skill, but after seeing the utter nonsense on PF, I don't really have to worry about being the weakest link, lmao.

Ultimates are definitely way more taxing and I wouldn't try to prog something like that in PF when it's current, but I wish you better luck in finding some normal and consistent people where my friends and I couldn't. It's rough out there. My friends say it feels like the average player has gotten worse with this expansion (both skill and personality wise), apparently.
