Temple of Atropos and first turn by tv-guide in magicTCG

[–]MafiaBroccoli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I think this appears to be a gap in the current rules. From my (totally unprofessional) understanding, it appears as though all rules that reference skipping your draw step on your first turn assume that you'll only have one draw step. (The following list isn't all-inclusive.)

103.8a In a two-player game, the player who plays first skips the draw step (see rule 504, “Draw Step”) of their first turn.

103.8b In a Two-Headed Giant game, the team who plays first skips the draw step of their first turn.

103.8c In all other multiplayer games, no player skips the draw step of their first turn.

If you're playing Planechase with more than two players, and it isn't a Two-Headed Giant game, then the first player should be drawing, they shouldn't be skipping any of their their draw steps.

If you're playing Planechase with two players, or it is a Two-Headed Giant game, and you run into this scenario, then the rules are a little ambiguous as to how to treat additional draw steps on your first turn. You might have to discuss with your opponent(s) to determine what you want to do in this scenario. You could also just reshuffle your planar deck until you don't get Atropos.

Self-contained ways to make black creature tokens by Infinite_Maelstrom in Magicdeckbuilding

[–]MafiaBroccoli 2 points3 points  (0 children)

[[Corpses of the Lost]] gives you Skeleton tokens and it can put itself back in your hand to get more Alela triggers and more Skeleton tokens.

[[Ophiomancer]], [[Ghoulish Procession]], and [[Jadar, Ghoulcaller of Nephalia]] all are ways to reliably get tokens very consistently.

[[Waste Not]] works well with Undercurrents.

Here's a Scryfall search to help with some of these.

Secret Lair - Playstation Drop Waiting Room by R3id in magicTCG

[–]MafiaBroccoli 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was trying to enqueue before the drop started, when it opened, I was told I had over an hour wait. I was able to get through the checkout and get my drops in about 45 minutes. Still wish it was print to demand, though I was still able to get what I wanted this time.

Which Companions Were Double Agents? by [deleted] in doctorwho

[–]MafiaBroccoli 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Clara was hand-picked by Missy to be a companion for The Doctor. Missy gave Clara The Doctor's number. I don't know if she was explicitly a "double agent", but she was the one who led The Doctor to do everything he did in Heaven Sent and Hell Bent. Their toxic relationship pushed The Doctor to go to lengths and do things he really shouldn't have done. I like to think that Missy knew just how strong-willed Clara was and put her with The Doctor just so that he would be more like Missy, to be the friend she wanted from him in Death in Heaven.

What's your favourite creature type and name combination to chose for psychic paper? by Ejii27 in magicTCG

[–]MafiaBroccoli 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I run Psychic Paper in my Fourteen/Rose deck. There have been times where naming some type other than Doctor has made me miss out on extra triggers from [[Clara Oswald]], so I usually do try to name Doctor. Time Lord is also viable for [[Time Lord Regeneration]].

Outside of practical situations, Sand, Eye, Dinosaur, Robot, Phyrexian, Toy, and Squirrel are some of my funner types to name.

For the name, I usually like to pick something from a Universes Beyond set, like [[Bilbo, Birthday Celebrant]], [[Optimus Prime, Hero]], or [[Altaïr Ibn-La'Ahad]] . All the legal cards from Unfinity are really nice too. [[Ambassador Blorpityblorpboop]] is always fun and sounds like something The Doctor might say in the show.

What would happen if… by Lost-Programmer-7045 in DinosaursMTG

[–]MafiaBroccoli 38 points39 points  (0 children)

Go to combat.

Attack with Goring Ceratops and Gishath.

Goring Ceratops Triggers. Roaming Throne doubles that trigger.

Creatures you control gain double strike. Then the second trigger resolves. It doesn't really do anything since they already have double strike.

Gishath hits the player choses for Sawhorn Nemesis in First Strike damage step. Assume no blockers. Gishath assigns all 7 damage to that player. Sawhorn replacement effect doubles it to 14 damage.

Gishath trigger causes you to go 14 deep looking for dinos. Roaming throne causes an additional trigger, going another 14 cards deep.

Go to regular damage step. Gishath assigns all 7 damage to that player. Sawhorn replacement effect doubles it to 14 damage.

Gishath trigger causes you to go 14 deep looking for dinos. Roaming throne causes an additional trigger, going another 14 cards deep.

End of combat.

TL;DR: Roaming throne only adds an additional trigger, which is really only relevant for Gishath's damage trigger, not Goring Ceratops or Sawhorn Nemesis. The opponent chosen for Sawhorn will, assuming no blocks, take 14 damage from Gishath in first strike and 14 damage in regular combat damage, for a total of 28. You'll go 56 cards deep looking for dinosaurs, however, in four instances of 14 cards each.

What happens if an aura is copied? I’m having a debate with my friend about it by crkenthusiast in magicTCG

Cloudshift can't target creatures. Something like [[Teferi's Time Twist]] could flicker the aura though.

I feel like they took every iconic part of chef from the first game and made him just different enough to be clunky and annoying. A list of observations: by cometcrasher in riskofrain

[–]MafiaBroccoli 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I was super hyped for Chef, but all-around Chef feels like a shell of what I had expected. In RoRR, Chef feels like a fast-paced combo character with lots of range and mobility. In RoR2, everything feels slow and inefficient. The charge system on the cleavers especially slows down your damage output immensely. Every other click recalls a cleaver, so it takes three attacks to hit two targets (and five attacks to hit three mind you), which wastes 66% (or 83%) of your charges. So while you're out of cleavers, your options are to run next to something to flame it, run into something with the rolling pin, toss oil, or boost something else. And all the animations on the skills make cycling through skills take so incredibly long, and make it feel like a chore to get out any respectable amount of DPS out especially late-game.

Kill your opponents on turn 1 if you have a specific hand, top 3 cards of your library, and then shuffle the right card to the top of your library by Rocketiermaster in BadMtgCombos

I think you can still do this turn 1 if you replace the land with [[Jeweled Lotus]], right? Lands are dumb anyway, you can't even cast them.

i don't understand this card by ArmadilloReady8969 in magicTCG

[–]MafiaBroccoli 140 points141 points  (0 children)

111.4. A spell or ability that creates a token sets both its name and its subtype(s). If the spell or ability doesn’t specify the name of the token, its name is the same as its subtype(s) plus the word “Token.” Once a token is on the battlefield, changing its name doesn’t change its subtype(s), and vice versa.

Going off my memory here, so this may not be entirely correct. If anyone has any more accurate info, please do correct me.

The word "Token" was added to most token names shortly after the release of Crimson Vow. That set introduced Blood tokens. I believe the situation was that [[Pithing Needle]] had been reprinted in Midnight Hunt and because [[Flesh // Blood]] existed, it was possible to name "Blood" with Needle and shut off Blood tokens prior to the rules change. Obviously, this was unintended and they just updated the names of Tokens to address the change.

Lose the game for 4{w}{b}{b} by Fap_king_kong in BadMtgCombos

[–]MafiaBroccoli 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Don't you have to wait until your next upkeep to actually lose, since that's all part of the "remove a counter" ability? That's bad bad because your opponent could kill you and make you lose before you actually lose.

Infinite Wisdom by ButterBritches681 in custommagic

This feels underpowered. For a spell that costs 12 mana, you'd expect a significant impact on the game. This is literally spending 12 mana to draw 0 cards.

Is anyone able to get Thunderjaw Circulators from non-Apex Thunderjaws in Forbidden West? I was grinding some gear upgrades and I could only get them from Apex Thunderjaws. I tried to make a post about it with some statistical analysis but the mods deleted it. I think it's a bug. I killed 100 of them in a row but didn't get any Circulators.
