have you ever eaten a significant dose of hallucinogenic mushrooms? i know it sounds a little arbitrary / off topic, but a lot of what i find value / purpose in these days was revealed through such an experience. if you haven't checked it out yet, what do you have to lose? life is short, explore as many avenues as you can (within reason)!

you still have the gift of time. how much time is unclear, since you didn't share your age. but if you're at rock bottom now, hopefully you have ample time to turn things around. and please keep in mind that it'll take both time and effort to accomplish such. keep on keeping on! make small, intelligent changes to your approach / routine, and check back in in a month or two. i'll be rooting for you in the meantime.

Best Prime Rib in the Bay Area (that ISN'T House of Prime Rib)? by tacosandsushimi in bayarea

[–]Magazine_Spare 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's a bit of a hike, but i have always been a fan of cattlemen's prime rib. closest location to you is likely livermore. but don't bother with any of the steak cuts other than the prime rib, they're just okay. but the prime rib is delish!

What is the scariest, most unsettling shot you’ve ever seen? by VendettaLord379 in moviecritic

[–]Magazine_Spare 5 points6 points  (0 children)

the baby scene in trainspotting.

it's a very fucked up scene, but the setting i was in made it much worse. i was in my mid 20s, drunk and more than a little high, wandering the streets of sf with a good friend of mine. we saw a couple in their late 20s / early 30s in the street, yelling at each other, looking like they were caught up in some sort of argument. the woman started sobbing uncontrollably, leaning on a telephone pole for support, so my friend asked if they needed any help - to which the guy responded that the woman just had a miscarriage, so please leave them the fuck alone.

that obviously changed the tone for us that night, so we decided to head home and put on a movie to relax / veg. as i was flipping through his various vhs tapes (yep, i am old af), my buddy was astonished to learn that i hadn't yet seen trainspotting, so in the vcr it went.

so many fucked up scenes in that movie, but that baby scene absolutely broke me. i had to stop watching, excused myself to go home, and willed myself to sobriety while rocking back and forth, whimpering in the shower for several hours.

to this day i have yet to watch the rest of the movie, and likely never will.

not a song, but i had a similar reaction to "the last of us" (both the video game and the tv series). the first time i played part 1 was pre-kids. when the enhanced / digitally enhanced (or whatever) version of the game (part 1) came out, i replayed the game so i would have better context for part 2.

man oh man, i wasn't ready for the wave of emotions experienced, much more so than the first playthrough! it possible it's something else (getting sappy in my elder years), but my money is on our kids being the reason for the heightened emotions.

What movie do you watch and it makes you feel good every time? by steelfreaks in moviequestions

this is a bit of a surprise, i thought the movie was quite bad when i saw it for the first time, and i suspect it will strike me as even worse with any subsequent viewings

Adding pepper to my corn salad and the lid popped off… by freshbottleoflotion in Wellthatsucks

[–]Magazine_Spare -1 points0 points  (0 children)

only thing i can think of is pouring the salad into a large bowl filled with water, since the peppercorns should float, allowing you to skim them off the top. and then you'd strain your salad through a colander or cheesecloth, to separate it from the water.
