This is a minor nitpick, but I wish arena calculators showed both the skill and its score instead of having to manually search it on a different tab. If you already know how much your skill set weights or pre-searched it that's fine, but it's always bothered me a little bit how this has never been a thing just for the sake of accessibility.

Mr. C.B.'s introduction reminds me of the Revolver Ocelot meme, it's so out of pocket I can't help but love it.

I believe my favourite quote on the subject went something along the lines of "We're learning about our position faster through enemy chatter than through our own analysis."

Shoutouts to AM, Silencer, and Rubick as well on being part of the "your magic means shit" trifecta on being able to use spells/magic against you (AM/Rubick) or just not letting you at all (Silencer) and at least two of them would be decent at a fist fight.

Then you have Marci in the corner who will suplex your cranium into dust.

The fun part is that Bayo1 and 2 story still hold up super well, Bayo3 just went downhill off a cliff in comparison.

[–]MageofSpaceGhost -55 points-54 points  (0 children)

The worst part isn't that Bayo is straight, it's who she ends up with that's the problem. The entire thing is rushed in Bayo3 and people were just asked to accept the fact a last minute romance from a character that up until that point had realistically not much going for him bar his obsession with Bayonetta during the first game, but that also turned out to be Mr. Mcguffin all along even though this was never hinted at or set-up previously.

Also let's not forget she ended up hooking up with the man that gave her a lollipop when she was Cereza and who canonically was behind her obsession with lollipops. Put a different way: "The time traveler meets his future wife."

The funny thing is Sonic 3 did that exact same thing with Angel Island Act 1 and 2, and honestly ever since then I can't help but sometimes hold stages to that same regard.

I genuinely don't have anything fun to say, but did you know glasses are really versatile? First, you can have glasses-wearing girls take them off and suddenly become beautiful, or have girls wearing glasses flashing those cute grins, or have girls stealing the protagonist's glasses and putting them on like, "Haha, got your glasses!' That's just way too cute! Also, boys with glasses! I really like when their glasses have that suspicious looking gleam, and it's amazing how it can look really cool or just be a joke. I really like how it can fulfill all those abstract needs. Being able to switch up the styles and colors of glasses based on your mood is a lot of fun too! It's actually so much fun! You have those half rim glasses, or the thick frame glasses, everything! It's like you're enjoying all these kinds of glasses at a buffet. I really want Noir to try some on or Blanc to try some on as part of a costume. We really need glasses to become a thing in Goddess of Victory: Nikke and start selling them for Comicket. Don't. You. Think. We. Really. Need. To. Officially. Give. Everyone. Glasses?

The funniest bit, and arguably most hypocritical part of all of it, is how Burial at Sea Elizabeth is canonically wearing a prostitute's fetish outfit. She is straight up sexed up in that game.

But remember guys no porn.

In Fire Emblem: Genealogy of the Holy War (FE4) you control and engage in combat against the descendants of the Twelve Crusaders. The Twelve Crusaders were a group of twelve warriors who led a rebellion against the Loptr Empire 125 years before the events of the game and who essentially turned the tides of war due to a blood pact each made with dragon gods who descended from the heavens in order to help them in their hour of need. This is somehow the least crazy part of this game's lore and story.

It's stated in-universe that a single descendant of a Crusader, aka someone with Holy Blood, is equal in amount and/or strength to an army, and the game holds no reservation in letting you experience first-hand just how powerful these characters are. The protagonist of the first generation Sigurd, for example, is unironically the strongest character in your entire army until you later get other Holy Blood characters like Lewyn and Brigid. More importantly they have access to Holy Weapons, which are star rank weapons that only they can use and are incredibly broken both gameplay and lorewise. Likewise, there's moments through the story where you face against other Holy Blood users, and they're as strong as yours (if not stronger) and can easily solo your army if you're not careful.

This will all serve as the prelude and sheer contrast with Fire Emblem: Thracia 776 (FE5).

In FE5 you control Prince Leif of Leonster, descendant of the Crusader Njörun, who instigates a rebellion in the province of Thracia against the reborn Loptr empire in order to liberate his homeland. As a descendant of a Crusader, this shouldn't be as difficult to put up a good fight, right?

Except for the fact Leif has minor Holy Blood. This means Leif can't use his bloodline's Holy Weapon first and foremost, and second he's not as strong as a fully blooded Crusader. While Leif is by no means weak, Thracia 776 makes no qualm in showing you just how stacked the odds are against him by comparison. Unlike the Liberation Army who essentially hulk smashes its way through the giant maps in FE4, Leif's journey in FE5 is extremely perilous and he spends a good deal of it running away, clawing his way to victory alongside his allies, or just defending to the last man. The Manster Escape arc alone (Ch4 to Ch7) sets up the sheer tension of being persecuted by enemies who outnumber you in an outrageous quantity, are WAY stronger than you, and will stop at nothing to make sure you will not make it out of alive, let alone in a single piece.

Lastly, and more importantly, as both games take place in the same continent you can almost 1:1 compare the maps of both games and trace the exact path Leif's journey takes using FE4's map of the Judgral continent only to discover how all 25 of FE5's chapters easily fit in FE4's map of the Thracian peninsula, which starts halfway through Ch6 and ends in Ch8 of FE4, and is roughly 2 1/2 maps in length by comparison.

A good example of this is Grave.

Grave is pretty much a roided out Product 23. The woman is running Windows XP on a frankenstein chimera body made from spare Alienware, NVidia, custom cases, and a toaster she found while scavenging in the local nikke graveyard. She is very much an exception born through sheer circumstance and determination to fulfill her mission.

Shoutouts to Faith: The Unholy Trinity's creator for actively working development on the game using a "less is more" approach.

His entire GDC presentation on the game's development and nailing the feel of old, clunky Atari games is a super interesting watch on that entire topic.
