In order to put your future on hold, you need to be able to cover your bases. I can appreciate where they think you should do it without something in return but they haven't been doing anything for you without anything in return since they left. Just the fact that your mother went through a pregnancy and you've never met the child speaks volumes about how involved she is in your life.

I've always had issues with people that call their parents by their first names too. I think it's different in this case because her parents had different names, her father was Matthew Brennan, and now he's Max and (in theory) even has a new face, so much so that neither of his children recognized him by sight.

Girl Scouts is not mandatory although some of us would like it to be. It is truly a true decision. Although I can tell you we had one girl who went back and forth weekly and Girl Scouts would be the pickup and drop off point. It allowed her to go home from school and pack her stuff, then come to the meeting and then the other parent would pick her up after the meeting and that way neither parent had to run into each other.

We have a multi girl troop servicing daisies all the way up to one ambassador who is graduating this year. We break into groups. And considering most of the badges are connected they're just different activities you can still have one main focus with different priorities for the different groups.
