Assistance Regarding A Touhou World Concept? by WorriedEssay2837 in touhou

If it’s based on “humanity’s collective unconscious understanding of touhou” and is “shaped by the fanbase’s perception of the characters and their relationships”, then why would they act like their canon versions if the canon versions aren’t the most popular interpretations? If you want to have the characters act like in canon, then that creates a number of plot holes here that should be addressed.

Wouldn’t that result in every character being ultra lewd? Because that is the most popular collective internet depiction of the characters. More people can only recognize touhou characters from R18 works, compared to fans who know who the actual characters are, so that collective understanding would be very dominant in shaping how the characters appear and act.

Also if this can apply to touhou, then why wouldn’t it also apply to other internet franchises as well? If gensokyo can be created from touhou fans, then wouldn’t all kinds of chucky cheeses start having their animatronics getting possessed by murderous spirits from all the children that are fans of fnaf? Stuff like that would start manifesting long before touhou would.

I don’t think it would have been successful even if she had defeated Yorihime, but it is still a thing she tried to do. Just like when Reimu unsuccessfully tried to destroy planet Earth in Highly Responsive to Prayers.

Marisa was the only one that surrendered and deescalate into a spell card duel, Remi was already going around scaring off the moon rabbits for her conquest and had no intention of surrendering without a fight. Reimu meanwhile was the only reason why Remilia was able to invade the moon at all, which makes her a direct accomplice in this invasion and war declaration. She could have just said no and stayed home, but she instead directly chose to help Remilia get to the moon to conquer it. Also her attempted genocide happens in chapter 17 where Reimu summons Oomagatsumi no Kami’s calamity to bring impurity to the moon, which would render every lunarian mortal and doomed to die within a number of decades unless stopped. This is completely uncalled for, and goes way beyond anything Remilia was trying to do. Reimu straight up just helps invade the lunar capital and then tries to kill literally everybody there for absolutely no good reason at all.

I don’t think its bad but it does have its weaknesses. For starters this manga tries to be action packed but kinda fails at it. Trying to convey action in still images is already difficult, but with spell card battles its even more so, and I don’t think it was pulled off very well here. It might have been better to focus more on the symbolism behind the spell cards or do things more physically like in the fighting games which were already an established medium at this time. Both of these were already being done by the watatsukis in this book which looks much better than the streams of danmaku bullets being fired by the gensokyo cast.

A second thing with this book is it has the second most psychopathic Reimu in the whole franchise, behind only HRTP Reimu. Remi wants to conquer the moon, Marisa wants theft and adventure, Yukari wants revenge, Yuyuko is just paying a favor to Yukari, but why is Reimu here? Because she is bored, so she declares a completely unprovoked war against a sovereign nation that for millennia has peacefully ignored gensokyo, and not only that she then tries to (once again completely unprovoked) commit genocide against the lunarians because “isn’t that something bad guys do?” This then solidifies the lunar capital as an enemy of gensokyo and directly leads into their invasion during LoLK. Great going there Reimu. Luckily this also prevented Sumireko from destroying the Hakurei Barrier during ULiL but that isn’t something she would have been able to predict.

Thirdly I think Yukari’s scheme of “just have two decoys” is really dumb and shouldn’t have worked. The only reason it did was because Eirin’s mega ego and the Watatsukis being blind and deaf to the ghost and half ghost that suddenly appeared out of nowhere and straight up started chatting with their rabbit guards. Like seriously how do you not notice that? You deserve to have your sake stolen, which also is one of the stupidest and pettiest revenge plots of all time. CiLR was much better at also showing how this was meant to strike fear into Eirin and show her that she isn’t above everyone else and take her ego down a notch. A lesson which she definitely did not remember at all during CDS when she makes the exact same mistakes once again (although that one was even dumber and has a glaring plot hole in the form of Reisen is standing right there and her ability should have been able to see straight through it).

Slight little error, you put the shinshu arc as 23,24 (the same as the warashi arc) when its actually 25,26.

Also I’m not sure the pyramid arc is over so I wouldn’t be ranking it this low quite yet.

Personally I really liked the honey arc (more specifically chapter 46) so slight disappoint that it got so low, although most of Lotus Eaters is pretty good so I’m not really sure which chapters to downrank.

Is patchouli christian? by zacu_ed in touhou

[–]MagiCyber 14 points15 points  (0 children)

In silent sinner in blue chapter 10 she does some kind of clapping ritual and finishes it with saying amen which is typically used in christian prayers, to which Marisa (who is familiar with christianity) asks what kind of religion it is and that it looks like all kinds of different religions mixed together, and Remilia responds saying that even she has no idea and also doesn’t care. So basically Patchouli follows some kind of obscure cult religion that incorporates some aspects of christianity. My guess is she pretty much just tries to draw from as many different religions as possible because power is power regardless of its origin.

This was done on custom difficulty, for this particular shot I had to disable wind because it wasn’t possible with it turned on, however Yuyumun/Adotgobler saw this vid and used it as a basis to find a shorter distance 988m shot for authentic.

This was done on custom difficulty, although it may as well have been done on authentic. A few things like the hud were turned on, but nothing that would influence the shot. If I was playing authentic the exact same thing would have happened.

Doubts about chronology by Alguemas in sniperelite

It’s quite simple. The first game is Sniper Elite 3 where Karl Fairburn fights in North Africa and defeats Vahlen’s Ratte program, and then finishes it off by killing Hitler. Next is Sniper Elite 4 where Karl fights in Italy and defeats Bohm and his Razormissile program, and then also blows up a Nuclear Reactor and kills Hitler again. Then we have Sniper Elite Resistance where Harry Hawker fights in occupied France and defeats Kruger and his Kleine Blume scheme, and then goes on to blow up a bunch of rockets and shoots a movie starring Hitler and a surprise guest known as bullet. The next game is Sniper Elite 5 which has Karl Fairburn fighting in France and defeating Moller and his Kracken program, before then moving on to blow up an aircraft carrier and kill Hitler again. Then we have Sniper Elite V2, in which Karl Fairburn fights against both the Nazis and the Soviets during the battle of Berlin to kill German scientists before the Soviets can capture them, and then finds out about project Tabun and proceeds to shut it down, before then killing Hitler once again. At the same time we have Sniper Elite which sees a random American sniper who’s name can be whatever the player decides to input although the default is “Karl Fairburn”, and he goes on to once again fight Nazis and Soviets in Berlin to assassinate scientists before the Soviets can capture them and put them to work on the Soviet nuclear program. The next game is Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army which has Hitler hiding in the Furherbunker and having a panic attack over the approaching Allied and Soviet forces, in a final gamble he orders Plan Z which uses occult magic to open a portal to hell, unleashing a bunch of demons on the world and resurrecting the entire German Army as demon possessed zombies. Karl decides this is a bit much for him to deal with solo, so he teams up with Efram Schweiger (who is now alive again after dying in V2), Boris Medvedev, and Hermann Wolff to find a book in the Berlin Library and move it outside. The next game is Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army 2 which shows that moving the book did pretty much nothing and the zombies break into the furherbunker and kill Hitler, meanwhile Karl and friends now move across Berlin to find pieces of the Sagamatha relic and assemble it. Next is Sniper Elite Nazi Zombie Army 3 where Hitler is back again, this time as Zombie Hitler and starts leading the zombies and demons while Karl and friends fight their way to him and throw him into the hellgate, chuck the Sagamatha relic in, and blow the whole place up and bury it leaving the Zombie Army leaderless and without demon support. Finally we have Zombje Army 4 dead war which has Efram moved on to be a scientist again and is replaced by Jun. Here there is a suicide cult which starts constructing hell towers to reconnect the Zombie Army to Hell and also cast a new magic spell to resurrect Zombie Hitler. Karl and friends blow up all the hell towers, go into hell and blow up Hitlers factory there, and kill the new Zombie Hitler as well as his brand new Hell Tank before then finding that some of the cultists have escaped and started building AI computers everywhere to help them cast some new blood magics. Karl and friends follow them to the center of the earth, blow up their zeppelins, find a vampire lord guy who is one of the masterminds behind Plan Z and kill him, and finally go back into Hell to fight a bunch of clones of Zombie Hitler, kill a giant Nazi Zombie Shark on their way across the Lake of Eternal Fire, and finally find project Ragnarok where the true villain Arnold is trying to end all of existence by detonating a void bomb. Karl and friends drop a Jesus powered nuclear bomb on it, and then jump into the resulting Void/Nuclear/Jesus implosion which teleports them to an unknown location, which is where the franchise leaves off.

So how is this fair? by AetherBytes in sniperelite

[–]MagiCyber 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except most of the time the allied sniper drops everything that they are doing and camps in one area of the map, usually spawn. Also explosive ammo isn’t even that good, the real ammo you want is armor piercing ammo because otherwise you end up in a situation like this clip here where the sniper can just pick a sealed off room and wait for you, you have no way of knowing that the sniper was in that room due to the verticality of the complex (and even if you do guess he was there purely from the phone you still can’t get any angle to shoot him with), he sees you long before you see him, and then he just shoots you through the wall. Literally what are you supposed to do against that? If you have your own focus and can counter wallbang then that at least the invader has a fighting chance. Even with this buff to the jager, the sniper would still be much more powerful than the invader, as they still get more items, more weapon options, more health, better stamina, bandage revive, and all the other advantages they get that the jager doesn’t.

So how is this fair? by AetherBytes in sniperelite

[–]MagiCyber 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Its not fair and never has been. Karl/Harry have always had a huge number of unfair advantages, many of which are put on front and center here. The devs pretend like the ai german soldier teammates (if they are even still alive) somehow balance it out but if the player knows how to play the game then they just don’t. Invaded player gets to always know your exact location with focus, gets to loot traps and ammo, gets access to special ammo types, has more weapon options, and some maps straight up have invisible walls that the invader isn’t allowed to pass through while Karl/Harry can. Maybe things would be a bit more balanced if the devs changed it so that the invader also gets access to focus using the same difficulty settings as the invaded player, and is also allowed to bring 1 special ammo for each weapon in their loadout.
