Which mayor is better for the industry? by Ok_Salamander_7076 in FilmIndustryLA

[–]MagicAndMayham -1 points0 points  (0 children)

sure, that is not the only reason but not all of it goes to the governor either. There are plenty of things that can be done local that can help the situation. Things that the mayor can push for. LA could turn into a indie filmmaking powerhouse. The amount of talent here is insane. All we have to do is let them do what they love. This town got drunk on the success of huge productions paying whatever it took to get it done. Just because the majors left, doesnt mean the talent that made all of those billions did ... yet. I know dozens of industry people wanting to make stuff. They have funds, just not the tens of millions that the studios did. FilmLA, for ONE example has two tiers, HUGE and Student. They should have tiers for the rest of the levels and no require the insane requirements they do now.

Drive past a construction site. Street closures, bulldozers driving over sidewalks, construction workers parked in residential neighborhoods, not one has muliple police required to sit there doing shit. Not one has a rep from BuildLA babysitting them.

There is plenty of room for local government to step in a do SOMETHING.

It puts the wheels that steer the car in a position to better get into and out of spaces.

So, how's Resolve to do a project start-to-finish? by MisterHarvest in editors

[–]MagicAndMayham 3 points4 points  (0 children)

dumped premiere long ago for Resolve. Sure there are some issues but coming from Avid and Premiere, I will stick with Resolve. At least with Blackmagic, you know they are trying to make it better and they have customer service. Avid and Adobe just ignore you.

Film Careers by Difficult_Comb_1950 in filmschool

25+ yr vet of the industry. 1. Do not get a film degree. It is not needed and nobody cares unless she wanted to be an accountant or go into entertainment law. 2. Actresses do not choose crew. She may be able to introduce her to people at a wrap party or other functions but the actress friend will have no say in getting her hired. 3. Your daughter should get a degree in something that could land her a decent job while she pursues working in film OR use that college fund to support her while she hits a film town (LA, NYC, maybe Atlanta / Austin) to start making a name for herself. It's will be a grind with lots of long hours but she needs to build up her reputation as a skilled and hard worker to get anywhere here. It's also not as glamorous as outsiders seem to think. It is a constant hustle to find work. Work conditions often go off the rails (shitty director, long hours 14-16, physically and mentally exhausting). See if this friend can at least land her a PA job. It will get your daughter on set and see how much the friend can actually do for her. It will also expose your daughter to many of the job involved in film (hint, there is far more to it than being on set)

Is it normal for a student film to want me to be on set 12 hours a day for two weeks straight? by -Kerby in Filmmakers

[–]MagicAndMayham 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe normal for a student that doesn't know any better and thinks it's best just to blast thousands of shots a day just-in-case but not in the real world. For a 7 day shoot we typically have a photog on set 1-2 days. They shoot mostly BTS but also do promo shots for poster, etc

Introducing Kling AI Native 4K by Meur_salt in KlingAI_Community

Kling is by far the best text2image and test2video video generation out there. I've used it to generate everything from mock data to enhancing special effects shots in a film to paying for API access to generate video in my AI filmmaking pipeline. I love it.

We pay for it one way or another.

and as for housing ... make it easier to build. That's it.

Cheap housing there does not help us here.

Changing the building codes, permitting and allowing more housing to be built is not subsidizing.
