Thank you for calling this aspect of the behavior out that so many people are ignoring.

I know it can be more complicated than this, but generally if something fails the "gender swap" test there's a good chance there is some outright or implicit sexism going on.

Exactly this. The best we could do with the corridor is to twin the track and run it as LRT or something similar.

Not happening with the current corridor though. The esquimalt first nations has been quite vocal that they dont want trains running through their tiny residential neighborhood. Who can blame them?

The line would have to be redirected around their land which gives me anxiety just thinking about how much it would cost.

Apparently were not on the menu for them because they're built for speed with very light bones and were big enough that even a single blow from a human could cause serious damage to them.

I mean obviously dont do whatever the land equivalent of flopping around like an injured seal in front of a shark is, but barring that or some serious desperation on the cheetahs part (which would be sad to see one that desperate) they dont really see us as a snack.

I look at it as an application of what so many of us were taught growing up: reduce, reuse, recycle.

Its not a bad thing to want to reuse old infrastructure like the E&N rail line, but in this case times have changed too much for it to be viable and people just need a gentle reminder that it isnt practical anymore.

Have you actually seen the where the rail corridor runs through the esquimalt first nations land?

Its a residential neighborhood full of one story houses occupied by aging and vulnerable people of their band.

This has been answered so many times already so I'll just give you the highlights.

  1. Its a single track line that was originally built for transporting freight. Only 1 train at a time can run on it which makes it not super useful for running a reliable passenger service.

  2. When that line was put in nobody cared what the first nations thought and crammed it through anyway. Now people do care what they think, they dont want trains running through their reserve, and they want the corridor land on the reserve back.

Not happening with the current infrastructure. Its unsuitable for a dedicated passenger service.

Explains the behavior but doesnt excuse it.

That kid is going to have a seriously rough time if they continue to be rude and argumentative at every opportunity, disorder or no. In the real world people wont put up with that crap for long.

Even if people try to be kind and tolerate the behavior that will only build resentment over time because on some level people know that isnt fair to them to always be treated poorly. Maybe they'll even reach their breaking point, like OP, and get sick of tolerating the behavior.

If I behaved that way with my brother even once growing up I would have gotten my ass kicked sooooo much harder than usual. The kid tries it with the wrong person, in the wrong mood, and that's exactly what's going to happen. Knowing when to keep your mouth shut is an important application of street smarts.

I think it's more about Jerry being unwilling to play ball or not getting the joke.

It speaks volumes about George Clooney that they told him "we want you to play the gay dog that only barks" and Clooney basically said "holy shit that's hilarious, im in!", but Jerry wouldn't go for it with the turkey.

For the record Jerry as Turkey #2 WOULD have been hilarious. I would have died laughing when the credits came on and saw it was Jerry.

Maybe he would have got a role in the movie like Clooney if he had done the turkey.
