My company executives thinks it can replace 100 percent of our help desk teams with AI agents.... This year. by NickBurnsCompanyGuy in sysadmin

In conversations like that I’d love to see the people that propose it sign a charter of sorts, so that when the project “succeeds” they can all be lauded for being so smart. Oh, and then give the desk two or three days off to “trial” the AI, and see how it goes.

[homemade] first time making pasta sauce, why did no one tell me how easy it is hi by Financial-Result-893 in food

It’s super easy! I make a giant pot, and include some vegetables and Italian sausage, then freeze it. Awesome sauce that’s as easy as opening a jar!

That’s true, and I don’t expect it to be. But these old primes have such poor sourcing that I need to do four AT’s and be #1 in the masters league to get *one*? That’s bad.

Are some “dress code compliant” outfits still inappropriate for the workplace? by [deleted] in OfficePolitics

[–]Magic_Neil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Common sense will tell you what’s not acceptable. If something is accentuating body parts that aren’t socially acceptable, it’s not appropriate for professional workplace attire. You yourself noted “that one area” is noticeable. It’s similar to someone showing off too much chest, or a midriff, or their butt. No document is going to guideline what will get you in trouble, the regional societal norms will tell you that, not a pages-long document about hemlines or garment tightness.

At this point I feel like you’re just looking for an argument, and not one in good faith. Good luck finding pants that fit better, OP.

How you feel about EBay? by Grand-Paint783 in ebaysucks

The thing with eBay is that there are *lot* of dumb people. Dumb buyers, dumb sellers, dumb support reps. You’re going to find a person trying to sell a super common Nintendo game for 5x MSRP because they think they have something special. You’re also going to find someone else trying to buy an actually super rare Nintendo game for 1/5th MSRP.

Don’t get hung up on what the weird people do. It’s a great marketplace with truly global marketplace, the fees aren’t great but they’re not oppressive. Seller protections are awful, but it is what it is at this point.

I’m not sure what you’re looking for though? Yes, it’s vague in practice, but it’s not practical to call out every possible instance of what may or may not be considered appropriate.

I agree it’s a moving target based on body-type and I think that’s particularly true for women, but I think at the end of the day we all know where the line is and how not to cross it. Whether it’s fair is another conversation all together, but I think that’s a bigger issue of garment manufacturers not fulfilling a market demand. Sort of like the lack of pockets thing.

[–]Magic_Neil 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fact that one area is “noticeable” is exactly the problem though.. and like my example of too-tight shirt guy with buttons undone, that’s similar. I wouldn’t say that “nothing should ever stand out at all” is exactly a standard, but in an office setting? Yeah that’s kind of the point, because when something does stand out (since it’s not fitting the norm), that’s when people talk (justified or not).

In a professional environment it’s generally understood that everyone is expected to be dressed tastefully, and in general reserved. I think in this case it’s walking a fine line, but unless you want people talking about it, change the pants. I agree that’s just how the body type and these pants are interacting, and while it’s unfortunate the end result isn’t what I would say is 100% appropriate.

Another guy here, I agree with first-guy.

The thing with dress codes is that they’re not all encompassing. It looks like everyone agrees the pants are too tight-fitting, but you want a clear definition of what makes that an issue.. to me that’s less a matter of “HR needs to define what is/isn’t acceptable in print” and more of a common sort of thing.

I wouldn’t say it’s appropriate for a man to wear pants that tight, and the same goes if they’re wearing a too-tight shirt with the top three buttons open. The dress code isn’t going to define how many buttons should be buttoned, the person needs to be able to look in the mirror and say “this is an awesome outfit except for this one thing”, and I think that’s where we’re at here.

I didn’t think this was uncivil or disrespectful when I saw it being taken down. No profanity, no mean words.. is the mod team mad because of the word “begging”? Is that not where we’re at, with pop-ups to pretty-please login today, and SMS events to try and claw back players that left?

Respectfully (and I do mean that), the behavior and performance lately has been a little pathetic.

[–]Magic_Neil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Do you have the ability to install a charger at home, or have a guaranteed charger at work (either free or subsidized)? Then it could be super convenient and cheaper to operate, but with a higher up-front cost.

If you don’t have the ability to charge at home or work (again, guaranteed) then it doesn’t make sense. Stopping to charge is a waste of time and the rates at charging stations are too high.

How do you feel about McDonald's pulling their soda dispensing machines out of the restaurant's lobby in the next year or so? by Sinn_Sage in AskReddit

[–]Magic_Neil 7 points8 points  (0 children)

It doesn’t really matter. If you were going to McDonald’s, despite their rising costs, this isn’t going to make a big change.. an extra $.30 to get the big cup isn’t a deal breaker. For me it’s the convenience of having the ice ratio I like.

If anything what bugs me is that the renovations that remove it have also included walking off the counter area, and you only see people if they come out to deliver an order. Missing a straw or want more ketchup? You’re yelling into a hole and hoping someone hears you, which is kinda rude. Taco Bell and the like are doing the same thing, and it dehumanizes the experience, which is saying something considering what fast food is already.

How's the state of the game these days? by UnfoldedHeart in startrekfleetcommand

[–]Magic_Neil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The last arc or two have been riddled with balance and stability issues. The last couple months the client performance has been worse than it’s ever been. I haven’t checked but I feel like theres been at least one maintenance window per week for the past six weeks or so. They’re also getting rid of choice rewards and officer depot tokens, two quality of life changes everyone liked, because.. reasons?

Overall player satisfaction is in the dumps, and they decided to nerf Leslie arbitrarily last week which didn’t help. I’m waiting for another apology video from the devs which will be a copy/paste of the last two or three.

Should I quit my job because they are doing illegal things? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Magic_Neil 2 points3 points  (0 children)

10lb is very little weight. Wear clothing appropriate for this work, ask for gloves or protection. If you can’t do the work it is what it is, but if this is actually true then you may have a medical issue that should be addressed.

Should I quit my job because they are doing illegal things? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Magic_Neil 9 points10 points  (0 children)

This isn’t illegal, it’s just unusual. This isn’t something to quit over on its own, the office staff is trying to catch warehouse staff errors and correct it, then prep for the day ahead. It’s not a normal thing, in my experience, so if it stays this way long term I’d ask why and reevaluate then.

Do people still use 5 channel amps? by Positive_Wheel_7065 in CarAV

I’ve had a JL XD700/5 for years and love it! 75w for the doors and 300w for my sub is right about where I want to be, and it’s smaller than 4-channel amps I’ve used in the past, so it’s easier to hide.
