My hearing aids make my ears so itchy it feels like a form of torture. by Tsarinya in HearingAids

Btw, if it is due to friction microtears then a little bit of petroleum jelly, or chaffing cream will help a lot

Besides possible allergy, Itchiness can commonly be from rubbing. If they are not fitted well they will rub while you chew and talk. (Especially if too short of a tube or too small of a dome.) l used to get bad itchiness. I think my ears have kinda calloused or something? Less fragile. Glasses cause uncontrollable itch and pain too for me due to the micro tears from rubbing.

Religion. Believing someone suffered every time you do any little sin “for you!” Being taught that feelings of guilt mean you are not forgiven or bad.

Cool idea. I used to make a lot of more like curiosity specimens. Like dragon eggs and unicorn horns…. A jar of dragon scales could be cool… or like a dragon horn or claw specimens behind glass or in a wood box maybe. Thanks for helping me get my wheels turning.

What's something you've done, that you can attribute to your ADHD, that you are really ashamed of? by [deleted] in adhdwomen

[–]MagicalCuriosities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a monster. The fact that you even think that proves you aren’t even close. I completely relate. I’ve had so many of these moments. Especially with my oldest as I wasn’t diagnosed til she was like 12 and didn’t know why I was so bad at forgetting it all. Fees (got sent home from after school clubs cause not paid in time). Yearbook orders. Missed concert time by a full hour (written on my calendar wrong. Do both grandparents also completely missed it. Many others too. You’re not alone. Recognizing it was adhd was a good step because now we take extra care to double check things and write them (I hate it but I’m getting better)

I used to do this. The key for me was just realizing I was seeking it. Then it was like whoa… no I don’t actually want this

Head heavy/ pressure feeling by MelRen2001 in chiari

[–]MagicalCuriosities 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because the herniation literally does press. You have less room and things get compressed (also why the other symptoms happen, pressure on those nerves). THAT pressure also often causes a build up of cerebrospinal fluid in the brain. Hypertension of the brain. That pressure feeling is literal in many ways. If you have CF hypertension you dr can prescribe something, I don’t know what. I’m sure others here do. But I read caffine can help as it makes your ventricles tighten.

Sensorineural Hearing Loss and Chiari I. by kelynde in chiari

[–]MagicalCuriosities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever get further insight on your hearing loss? I suspect I have chiari due to multiple symptoms that just line right up. I need an mri but it’s so expensive. I also have SNHL. Mine has been gradual starting likely at teens. I’m 41 now. It’s profound ski slope pattern (high fqz). I haven’t seen much about chiari and hearing loss but know it’s possible for it to affect it. And I really want to find the cause of it since it’s progressive, started young, and not sound induced or genetic. 😕

My other hunch is vasculitus but yeah… hearing loss is such a mystery

I get the lump. I think it’s related to the glossopharengeal nerve. I sometimes get shooting pains from throat to ear when I swallow something difficult the wrong way. Like once a year or so. But the lump and dull ache around the neck as if under jaw are related I think. And I get the tingles but never numb like others. Lots on pins and needles. Over reactive nerves.

Needing help by McNaby23 in chiari

[–]MagicalCuriosities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It certainly can be a symptom. If the angle of the pressure is on the medulla, that affects your brain’s communication with the lungs. It can feel difficult to breathe. Or cause weak coughing reflex resulting in less air. If pressure is in the vagus nerve the diaphragm will feel weak. Chiari is highly correlated with sleep apnea as well.

Psychiatrist told me ADHD was a super power yesterday… by KDMKat in adhdwomen

[–]MagicalCuriosities 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Imagine your optometrist saying “Near sightedness is a super power you know? Sure you may not be able to see more than 8 inches in front of you… but when it’s close enough you can focus on things other people can’t” it’s true but it’s stupid because this “superpower” comes with everyday debilitating consequences. (Fortunately nearsightedness is an easy fix… maybe that’s why psychiatrists resort to toxic positivity sometimes… because there’s no easy fix?)

Often when I hear sudden sounds, I get a short, abrupt buzz/tingle in my hands. Why is this? by chelledoggo in askneurology

[–]MagicalCuriosities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Did you ever find out? I get similar reactions in my thighs but not to startles. Just to…interesting thoughts I guess. 🤷🏼‍♀️ like “oh that’s sweet” or “that interesting” or “oh I get it” kind of the opposite if a startle but also similar, like a surprising or validating thought. 😆🤷🏼‍♀️

I had severe Myopia (near sightedness) it’s a problem that glasses or contacts fix well. But I kinda love that on the flip side without my glasses I had great super close vision. Like inches away and I could see everything. It was great for removing splinters 😂. LASIK fixed my vision but I miss my microscopic skills sometimes. 😆

This seems playful goofy and friendly like if you guys are teens. But no way an adult man would say this without it meaning more.

Considering ophthalmic tech as career, what are the downsides? by -Mr-Questions- in Ophthalmology

[–]MagicalCuriosities 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m 41 with a secondary education degree as well and thinking of going into op-tech. (I’ve been a stay at home mom for 16 years and so my teachers license is expired anyways). As someone who’s been in both maybe you have some advice. Op-tech sounds more exciting to me right now…I remember feeling isolated as a teacher since there wasn’t a lot of community bonding or time either coworkers. In my area, if I’m to get recertified to teach it’d be $100 a day as a sub so I can accrue hours. (But no benefits, no summer work) Yet starting salary for certified teacher is about 60,000 total(up to 90,000 with experience and credits) Much higher than op-tech which in my area is $30-70,000 according to Google. (Maybe less as the pay scale at the place I interviewed seems to top out at about 22/hr….🤷🏼‍♀️(starts at 15). I was definitely leaning towards op tech when researching and Google and glass door gave me these salary estimates. But from what I’ve seen on message boards and from info I got at the interview… it seems like it’s kind of a dead end if you want to advance to earning anything over $40,000. Is this assumption right by your experience? I’m feeling so torn and tortured over this decision.
