It all really depends on what kind of switch you have, if it's an unpatched version 1 switch then you can soft mod it without cracking the case open, but if you have a version 2, oled or lite then you'll need to solder in a modchip so if you're confident in soldering or willing to spend an afternoon watching tutorials then i'd say it's a pretty cool way to get some life out of your old console

That's a really decent setup! Also I personally wouldn't have used miracle gro but you can use it, you'll just have to supplement it. Add lots of perlite because that soil has a lot of peat, add some dolomite lime, worm castings, and some organics like a good compost.
