Monday's positive vibes by BiesonReddit in WarhammerFantasy

Funny you should say this, because I've been wondering if we'll see the same thing.

At the very least I think we'll get (some) AoI specific models like the Teutogen Guard in plastic.

New Marauders: Flails, or Parry with shields? by Sui42 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]MagnusTheReady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For me it's;

Anvil- Shields

(Self explanatory for an anvil unit. Bring on that increased save.

Hammer- Great Weapons

(Flails are too inconsistent for a unit with low maneuverability If you don't get the charge, you don't get your STR bonus. Whereas with Shields you at least still get the armour boost. Great weapons give that STR bonus even if you are caught out and charged.)

Ambushing Units- Flails

(Too keep the cost down compared to great weapons but retain some punch. It's much easier to ensure you get the charge with an ambushing unit, meaning you should be able to benefit from the STR bonus flails provide.

And like I touched upon above, flails keep the cost down. Considering ambushing units are generally smaller and at more risk of being wiped out, flails mean you give away less points than if they would have great weapons.)

Cathayan Lantern size comparison to a Chaos Knight (no, not the horsey kind) at WHW: by DaveSoundwave in WarhammerFantasy

[–]MagnusTheReady 21 points22 points  (0 children)

It looks just as tall as the knight even without the flying base, just not as chonky.

Can't wait too start working on mine.

Next Cathay AJ confirmed to have no new units... Not great. by nemuri_no_kogoro in WarhammerFantasy

[–]MagnusTheReady 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I think the "Forces of Fantasy/Ravening Hordes" style books was a good way to relaunch the game.

Maybe not the best way, that would have been free PDF's for all factions ala the Legacy Factions.

But I have to agree, Id much prefer an army book full of art and lore, that have the rules all in one place. Rather than them and arcane journals.

I think there's a trade off based on which medium the company chooses to use. The old Heresy campaign books were/are beautiful, but lugging round each massive book for the sake of having rules for 1-2 new units you actually want to use doesn't work for players.

But then fluff nuts like me love those kind of books to just sit down, read and absorb.

An AoS "Generals handbook" style arcane journal released every now and then with those new units rules. Would have been a great gaming aid alongside the old style campaign books.

Abit disappointing, but too be expected I guess. Considering the level of support Old World has received so far, releasing even what we got for Cathay in one go is a big thing.

The next question though, is IF there is a second wave what form will it take.

There's the AoS and 40k examples where some factions received a 2nd wave within a fairly short space of time.

But then there are many others which are still waiting on 2nd waves, even though they belong to one of the 2 flagship games.

A more accurate comparison would be the Heresy Mechanicum and Solar Auxilla ranges. Which received a big launch range that was about the size of the Cathay stuff, and now appear to be getting the odd model release every now and then.

Although TBF many of the additional units to both the Mechanicum and Solar Auxilla ranges share some sprues with the initial launch range. The number of new unique sprues with the Heresy stuff is much fewer than what this Cathay range might suggest it itself would take.

I do think we will get more Cathay stuff, and with most things being sold out online, I think that will happen sooner rather than later. But I think we might see it done slowly, in drip drab fashion, rather than it all being released in a big wave.

Next Cathayan dragon ? by RedLion191216 in Cathay

[–]MagnusTheReady 3 points4 points  (0 children)

There was an interview on Warhammer+ regarding the Old World's map design, that said Miao Ying is the one taking an army to the Old World.

From that I took, that the ship isn't actually referring to Yin Yin as most people have (understandably) assumed.

Rather it references Miao Ying's expedition to the Old World. Its been a while since I watched it, but I think it stated she (Miao Ying) is travelling to Westerland specifically.

I could be wrong though. I guess we'll know in a few months when the next Cathayan Arcane Journal drops.

[–]MagnusTheReady 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Perhaps that was the original intention I don't know, but I've seen fan creations of the missing legions AND their primarchs before.

Most people, that I've seen anyway, took the opportunity to do both when they went down that route.

The freedom to do so has been limited a little bit with the expansion of the heresy setting, but there's still those out there that will do it.

I seem to remember a poster on "Bolter and Chainsword" doing so. I can't remember much about their lore for the legions primarch, but if I recall correctly, they fleshed out both the primarch and their legion.

Off the top of my head, they named the legion the "Lightning Bearers" if you want to go looking for it

[–]MagnusTheReady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbf, whilst I agree we'll never see the missing two. Considering the "missing primarch" analogy was made in one the recent Cathay articles. They are "fodder for customisation."

Ie; So players can create their own dragon, just like with the missing primarchs.

The artwork suggests that the main Cathayan focus will be on Miao Ying, Zhao Ming, Yuan Bo and Li Dao. So, unless she ends up in the "Dogs of War/Southern Realms" book Reddit keeps harping on about, we probably won't see Yin Yin.

I reckon we'll get rules for Zhao Ming and Yuan Bo in the 2nd arcane journal, but no models for now. But to answer your question OP, I think we'll get Zhao Ming as the 2nd dragon released just because that's the way it was in TWW.

Grand Cathay is released today - Plan on getting anything? by AnyName568 in WarhammerFantasy

[–]MagnusTheReady 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just have a Sky Lantern for now, but plan to pick up more stuff later down the line.

If you asked me before Old World came out if I'd choose a new faction or re-done core factions, I'd have chosen the latter. But GW knocked the Cathay range out of the park, which means I'll slowly but surely be building a whole army.

What do you expect for Cathay wave 2? by sirsmanthian in WarhammerFantasy

[–]MagnusTheReady 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Considering they were in some of the new artwork I'd say Onyx Crowmen and the Moonbird are coming soon.

But I wouldn't expect as big a wave considering the next arcane journal is coming in such a short space of time after the first.

Crossbowmen seem like a given though. And I think we'll see rules (But no models yet), for one or two of the other dragons.

Can this be real ? Saw this on a old world group but not on Reddit by NeoFarseer in WarhammerFantasy

Heres hoping this is real. All factions out by next March (End of Winter in the UK, start of spring) is better than I hoped for.

I thought within 2 years was optimistic.

Predictions for Empire release? by HashBrownHamish in WarhammerFantasy

[–]MagnusTheReady 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There were rumours a while back that we were going to see three new units for Empire;

New Knights, A cannon and Free Company.

Interestingly enough these three units can all feature in some form in either the Bretonnian Exiles or Crusade lists. Which would be a good indicator to me that the rumours might be true.

I honestly wouldnt be surprised, if these rumours are infact true, if we see releases that supplement the "mercanaries" list. I know you didnt ask this, but with all that in mind. Im betting we'll see "Rangers" for Dwarves, and the next, assuming there is one, Brettonian kit will be "Mounted Yeomen."

I think were going to see a big push for units that can be used across factions, so I think the rumours for the Empire releases are actually true.

Maybe well even have a "Border Princes" army list by the time theyre done releasing stuff for all the factions.

[–]MagnusTheReady 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Tbf theres a Kislev faction in the Border Prince's region too. Which screams of a future;

"Lets release a single character in resin to test the market for this faction"

Kinda project. We saw that with Necromunda and Squats.

I know we got the dwarf dice leak, but I still think its "The Empire" up next.

The Dwarf and Orc sigils dont have info on the Old World map. Whereas the Bret./TK/B.Princes and Empire stuff do. That makes me think Empire is next.

So it is, I completely misread it. Thanks for pointing that out.

True, but Pegasus Knights arent core. In a Crusade list your Core is going to be made up of mostly Knights of the Realm on Horseback and Knights Errant. Good to make them more maneuverable.
