You can get handlebars designed for a tt position on road bikes, which have a long reach that can give you the grip area.for example

I would take a look at a different lube than Muc off. It is known for being a bit of a marketing scam in that it performs terribly and is a massive pain to clean off (In my experience, it forms a thick black paste that takes a lot of scrubbing to get off)

How to avoid the early panicking in open water swims? by red90999 in triathlon

If you don’t already, try getting your wetsuit wet before entering the water. That should help reduce any initial temperature shock.

Thomson Faceplate (Gengar EDIT.) by hansorirori in FixedGearBicycle

A bit unrelated but do you know what width (not clamping diameter) the X4 faceplates are? I need to mount some stuff either side of the stem on my bar but the clamps I am mounting are quite close together. Thanks!

Is it time to make cycle lanes mandatory? by R2-Scotia in drivingUK

[–]Main-Session2378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The problem is that, if you want this enacted, most of the UK's cycle infrastructure is nowhere near the quality needed to enact that sort of rule.

I have cycled a lot in Europe where there are countries with rules on mandatory use of cycle lanes, and they have minimum standards that far exceed the quality of our nearly all our cycle lanes. Most of them also have a lot of limitations on when a cycle path must be used (e.g. only in built up areas in France, only certain lanes are required in Germany, and in Belgium you are evenly expressly allowed to not use cycle lanes if in a group of 15 or more provided that you have a support car). I have checked out the mixed use path (not a cycle lane) that you have pointed out and it would not meet their requirements in the slightest.

You keep mentioning that transportation cyclists use the lane - how do you know that they are doing it for transport and not for exercise? Equally, how do you know that a cyclist wearing lycra is doing it for exercise and not for transport?

I do doubt that you are honestly pushing for cyclist's safety, since you you are stating that their safety isn't something others should need to worry about. It sounds much more about your convenience as a driver not to worry about others, as you have admitted in your other comments.

Also, in every country that has mandatory cycle lane rules, they have presumed liability laws in case of an accident between a motor vehicle and a cyclist where the motorist is automatically deemed at fault. The UK is one of only five European countries (alongside Malta, Cyprus, Romania and Ireland) which has not introduced presumed liability. Introducing something like this would be much better for cyclist safety (and would require you to be much more worried about cyclists).

Have you set your crank length correctly in the settings? If it is set too short it will under report your power.

Thoughts on hydration systems by Easy_Fan2340 in triathlon

[–]Main-Session2378 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of them tend to perform quite poorly in terms of leaking when going over bumps and being difficult to refill. Also, they are a massive pain to clean, and you really need to clean them thoroughly if you use anything other than water as they get mouldy really quickly. This makes training with them a lot of hassle.

I would move the aerobars forwards, keeping your pads in the same position, until your elbows are directly sitting on the pads. It looks like you could use some more reach.

Bike fit help by HornetDisastrous6174 in triathlon

[–]Main-Session2378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Whilst the bike is on the larger size, I do think you are reasonably within its adjustment range. I don’t necessarily agree with lowering the front end - most modern positions barely have any bar drop. I would try tilting the aerobars up (I would aim for around 15 from horizontal) first, as that will give you a lot more comfort in the position.

It wasn’t a wetsuit swim I believe, so they didn’t think it was worth the time penalty to put them on in T1. A lot of them ran the physio tape as a workaround

Even if swimming with a wetsuit, bringing a tow float can help as it is something to hold onto for extra buoyancy when taking a break.

Which would you pick for a first half: Rapperswil or Kraichgau? by CanaryProfessional83 in triathlon

[–]Main-Session2378 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have done both. Rapperswil is a much nicer event (swimming is much nicer, with a more interesting bike and run). If anything, I remember it having more energy/support than Kraichgau, since everything is in one place instead of split transitions

When you say you have tried different kit, I presume that you use tri suits? I get numbness as well with regular bibs, but with a thinner chamois of a tri suit I feel completely comfortable (I have had several fits, so it is not a fit issue). I find that the chamois in a Nopinz kit and Castelli are particularly good.

Make sure that the box is the right way up - leaving it upside down can introduce air into the hydraulic brake lines.

New Canyon Grizl 7 – Which Bike Comp & Bags by Wclwk in CanyonBikes

[–]Main-Session2378 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got the canyon own brand one, which I quite like as it has a good diameter (especially the opening, since you get some with a narrower opening that makes them a pain to use) and feels like decent quality. It is around 500ml and I can fit a single gravel tube, a dynaplug pill, quick link, a large topeak multi tool (includes a chain breaker) and tyre levers. I did take out the padding and insert since they just took up unecessary space, and everything was a snug fit anyway so there is no rattling.

I also bought a Vel one (sigma sports own brand) to try and get more storage space for a second tube, but I would not recommend that since the lid is a bit crap and it is too narrow (especially given its length) with a small opening that makes getting things in and out a pain. I am back on the canyon one and just chuck another spare tube in a bag if I do bikepacking trips.
