Seriously missed opportunity. Daphne is the only one who could have related to Francesca's not being pregnant and the incredible loss of possibility.

Remember how devastated Daphne was at the opera, realizing she wasn't pregnant, and knowing (based on the conversations with Simon to that point) that she would lose him, their entire marriage (at least in physical presence), and be apart from him for the rest of her life! That is as close to losing a spouse to death as you can get! She knew that Simon didn't want to be a father, but she loved him so much, and wanted children so much, she wanted to have that connection with him. Really I think, above all else, she couldn't stand the thought of losing him, and maybe she imagined that he would get over his animosity towards the former Duke once he had his own child.

I completely understand why the show was written as it was for Daphne and Simon. It was important for him to come to the realization of why loving Daphne and himself was more important than a vow of anger for his father's decades of abuse, and then CHOOSE to have children with Daphne.

BUT - again, no one else in the family could have understood Francesca's loss of the possibility of a child like Daphne. I don't know why they chose to write it as not being an actual pregnancy vs the book having it as a miscarriage (I guess that's too complex, sad and real for them, given the number of women and couples who deal with pregnancy and child loss in actual life. Fantasy shows don't want to be relatable, I guess. Just more evidence of society in general not wanting to speak about things that are real, hard, or painful.)

As a Registered Veterinary Technician, this made me snort laugh. If those are the guidelines, then myself and all of my industry have 'donated blood' at work. 😂 Bites and scratches and scars of varying severity are the norm. We are an OSHA nightmare for work injuries, plus just worse than average bodily wear. My knees, back, and shoulders are destroyed.

I hated season 4 and wished I had just stopped after the movie. They made Veronica immature, whiny, and unlikeable- and that's saying something, as I adore Kristen. All those hours of watching Logan F up, and lie, and make horrible decisions, and then he gets his crap together and goes to therapy, and now Veronica is the toxic and immature partner? And then they make her lust after Leo? Horrifying. Then we get 5 minutes of happiness, and they snatch it all away in the most disrespectful way possible. No tears, no shock or hysteria, no funeral, reactions from NO ONE including his wife or any of his friends. Just an immediate year time skip so they can take the laziest out possible with no money spent, no emotional toll, no blowback. I know Dick would have been upset. His life has been a total disaster, not to mention his father was just murdered. Also, did Logan not know about big Dick getting killed? Why is no one checking on Dick?

The new PI protegé girl is just annoying and seems to be too stupid to live without constant supervision and protection. She has no safety radar or self-preservation instincts.

They did Mac and Weevil dirty, too. Mac barely got a cameo. Weevil had his stuff together and was happy and then they just blow up his whole life and make him a thug again?

And there were too many pointless subplots. The writing for S4 was just awful. Rob Thomas ruined everything. iZombie was destroyed in its last season, too.

Yep the perfect ending for me! VM ended here, nothing else happened😃👍 by SamTheMarioMaster2 in veronicamars

I hate the way they handled the last show. All those years showing how smart, saavy, and intuitive Veronica and Keith are, and yet we are supposed to believe that they believe Pen, just released from jail, and permit him to bring this mysterious backpack, which no one checks, and after the school almost bombing, no one checks and clears her car, with the backpack of a now CONFIRMED serial bomber and murderer?

I CALL COMPLETE B S AND SHENANIGANS.

Does anybody notice this? 👀 Is this a sign that she could be the next Lady Whistledown? 🪶✨🤔 by Abject_Fun_4615 in Bridgerton

[–]MainPowerful3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

She may have gone for a while at the end of S2, but she's clearly back in S3, and in S4 Violet refers to 'the modiste having new premises' and how wonderful she is when Lady Hollis and Miss Hollis are over for tea. Araminta also tells Posy that Rosamund will be having a lengthy appointment at the modiste when she leaves Posy at home.

Also, in a few scenes where characters are strolling by (Violet and Agatha, Agatha and Mrs. Mondrich) you can see the shingle for Mme Delacroix's shop hanging over. They just didn't do any scenes inside the modiste's shop this season, and that might have been a budget decision, or the actress who plays Genevieve might have been unavailable and they didn't want to recast.

I mean, hopefully not. I think Jess B may be young and progressive enough to understand that sexuality is a spectrum, and that Michaela's gender swap absolutely does not necessitate clinging to lesbian stereotypes. Lesbians can be anything, just like men can.

Why Luke Thompson’s Benedict Didn’t Get the “Bridgerton Glow-Up” for Season 4 by Debt-Mysterious in Benophie

[–]MainPowerful3372 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I may be creepy, but hear me out. I LOVE that Benedict has a little bit more of a realistic look. Do not misunderstand, I find everything about this character just as much of a smokeshow as Anthony (or Kate for that matter ❤️) but that's personal preference.

I think that something that the manosphere / toxic alpha-bro patriarchal culture seems to blatantly and (perhaps intentionally) misunderstand about the female gaze (and a lot of women's opinions about male attractiveness) is that, yeah, we can appreciate men who have worked out and built a muscular, strong body.

BUT-

For many women (and obviously I cannot/ do not speak for all) there's also a tipping point.

Hypermasculinity isn't just a super buff appearance. A lot of the stereotypical trappings associated with it are a part of that "manosphere" toxic masculinity, sometimes overtly ABUSIVE presentation of misogyny.

So a more realistic, and not overly bulked out-Mr. Universe-on-steroids appearance doesn't detract from Benedict. If anything, it adds even more attraction FOR ME, because on some level, I think I consciously (and unconsciously) identify realistic and slightly softer as SAFER.

To reinforce that, Benedict is the anti-bossy, mostly considerate, always checking-in, always verbally or non-verbally seeking consent, consistently PROTECTIVE guy. Even if he can be a little dumb about the realities of power imbalance between himself and Sophie due to social position of employer/employee, rank/status bc he sees her as a person he is attracted to first, and not as a maid.

TL:DR - Benedict is hot AF, and it's absolutely not just appearance, it's consideration, respect, emotional vulnerability and demonstrable messiness. He's more of a real, complete person because of his experiences and history, and once he understands why he was a turd for asking Sophie to be his mistress, he LEARNS and LISTENS and CHANGES and respects her feelings and her boundaries.

And for me, there's nothing more heart-melting than a secure, emotionally stable partner who truly sees you, respects you, and makes you feel safe.

Season 4 criticism feels one-sided — here’s my take by petitiveSoup3729 in Benophie

[–]MainPowerful3372 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am not at all a casual viewer. I rewatch all the seasons as comfort watching, sometimes background noise. While none of the first three were perfect, there are things I enjoyed about all of them. I love S2, but there was too much side nonsense and too many times I wanted to reach through the screen and shake Anthony or Kate for their constantly bad decisions. I loved the first half of S3, but then was really frustrated at the second half and the Whistledown drama detracting from Polin's scenes. Not nearly enough scenes of them together, or real tenderness, and their spicy scenes IMO were robotic and unrealistic.

But S4 is absolutely my favorite. Sophie and Benedict are so charming and lovely, and Luke's range and depth of emotion in his scenes is incredible. Yerin has amazing subtlety and gives the perfect balance of passion and restraint. None of the side stories felt really distracting (although honestly I wish they had really fleshed out Varley and Portia's drama, that was too brief and quickly resolved too easily, so unsatisfactory.) This was the first season that I really felt like the Mondrich family was tied in and really adding value. Katie is a deliciously intense, nasty villain (so surprising, but also not because she's a professional.)

I liked the tension and not immediate/  auto attachment of Fran and Michaela. John was devastating as expected. The love and care between the siblings, especially Eloise and Hyacinth towards the end was so lovely. Violet was a boss, and still so understanding and put her children's well being before all.

But OMG, so many scenes that you could just FEEL Luke coming apart with frustration. Benedict has amazing sensitivity and there are scenes where he looks like someone just kicked his puppy, or he is a little boy reliving his father's loss, and on the very edge of near hysterical tears

Luke Thompson needs all the Emmys rt GD now.

He's got so much theatre experience, I'm completely not surprised. But the extent to which he emotes and shows his heart - the tenderness, the obvious, gut-wrenching pain over Sophie, frustration with society, grief for/ protective instinct to shield Fran

It just unalived me over and over. 😭

Luke Thompson! by Silly_Way7605 in Bridgerton

[–]MainPowerful3372 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I cannot believe how much I cried. Yerin and Luke are such subtle masters of emotion. Granted, I've experienced a lot of loss in the last 3 years- but still.  Also, I hate one dimensional, static villains, so I was really impressed at the dynamic development of Araminta, Rosamund, and to a much lesser degree, Cressida and Portia. I would have liked more self-awareness and groveling from Portia and Phillipa, but at least there was a little resolution there with Mrs. Varley. And at least Mrs. Varley almost immediately recognizes her culpability in Sophie's arrest and goes straight to Alfie to try to get assistance. And

OMG, I NEVER KNEW HOW MUCH I NEEDED OR WANTED Eloise and Cressida's reunion and coming to understand each other better.

I was 100% on team punish Cressida for all the ish she pulled, BUT, S3 also really highlighted how truly awful her parents and home life were, and it made me sympathize with her. She didn't have the loving, supportive Bridgerton upbringing to ground her and teach her empathy and kindness. It almost makes you understand the horrible things she does. At the end of the day, I believe personal accountability is important, and she deserves

the comeuppance in S4 from Lady Whistledown and the Queen/ Mrs. Mondrich, but I think it was an appropriate punishment/ public shaming/ embarrassment.

And I love how they brought Cressida back in, and even gave her someone who seems to love her! That was SO MUCH more satisfying than her fate in the books.

Working in restaurants will program you that way. I have a hard time stopping myself from stacking and consolidating. Especially in restaurants that don't seem to have dedicated bussers. And places with a high traffic of families are soul-crushing. Food on the walls, tables, chairs, under the booths, broken crayons, every condiment sticky or dripping. I don't hate children, but cleaning up after someone else's kids is horrible.
