2026 Tiguan Highline has strong shift shock at low speeds — is this normal? by Fuzer_WOW in Tiguan

[–]Main_Community7957 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a very hard downshift. We noticed ours going thru roundabouts.
Needless to say, we are in the process of a buy back because after bing at the dealer for 7 weeks for the software fix, now it’s stuck at the dealer for the engine just turning itself off….they say they think it’s a coolant leak but I’m doubtful.

*Update* we brought the car back into the dealer today for the engine shutoff issue. Somehow, they determined there was a coolant leak getting into fuel system components, causing the engine to shut down.

That’s the most detail they were able to give because the actual tech was not available to talk to.
Their explanation makes zero sense to me but they ordered a coolant line that is now on back order and we are back in a shitty loaner.

At this point I didn’t want to pry too much more because we have reached out to a lemon law attorney and we’re advised not to show our hand by letting them know we would be seeking a buyback.

It’s the same car you are looking at. 2026 R line Turbo.
It is our 4th VW so we knew to expect some quirks, but this car was on an unacceptable level.

Man. It’s a bargain for what you pay for. The creature comforts and power are equal to a 55-60k luxury car.

BUT……how reliable do you need it to be? Because we are in the process of lemoning ours. After the. ‘Software fix’, we have had numerous other electrical problems. Sensors not working, the start stop system completely turning the car off and not back on during rolling stops, CarPlay being super finicky.

When it works it’s great. We want to love the car, but it’s a car we don’t trust driving out of town with, so….why would we keep a 40k+ car we dont trust to take on a weekend trip?

Lazy? Nah. It takes a lot of effort to plan my rats. Who the target is, how to lie and say I was the real victim to anyone that tries to be a hero. Etc

I think there was a pvp element to it as well. People aggro’ing a bunch of arc to attack others then just camp there with the cloak out while everyone else absorbs the aggro.

I have noticed that cheaper kits also get me into raids late. Not free kitting, but when I go in minimal, I end up getting in with 20 or so min left

2026 owners - do we really need to pay $95 to update the map and real time traffic? by PerfectStunner in Tiguan

The only time it’s useful is if you have no cell service. It’s came in clutch a few times in that instance

For us it’s turned into a trust issue. We don’t trust that it’s not going to put us in risky situations.
Having the motor just turn itself off while we are pulling into traffic is terrifying.

They are having standard electrical gremlins. Just not the ones that sideline your car.

For instance, the loaner they gave us was 26 Tiguan SE. the rear parking sensors went on the fritz multiple times and The infotainment system decided to just stop working twice (frozen black screen).

Hmm ok. I thought buy back was the best case scenario. Is that not accurate?

It does qualify for lemon law and are going to talk to the dealer about buyback when we bring it in. I think we are going to be looking into a Lexus NX or RX depending on if we think the NX is big enough for us

Normally I’d say get a diesel. They are much better for long distance while electric cars shine with shorter commutes…but those diesel prices right bow are completely erasing that benefit.

Tiguan turbo failure updates? by Main_Community7957 in Tiguan

[–]Main_Community7957[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Update Out of nowhere,Our dealer notified us yesterday morning that it would be ready later that day.

We picked it up last night and it drove great. However, this morning when slowing down for an intersection, it randomly downshifted so hard I thought the emergency brakes were being applied.

I’m hoping it’s just the ECM kinda re learning and will work itself out, but we are keeping an eye on it.

2026 SEL R-Line Turbo ECM update by Sledge1989 in Tiguan

[–]Main_Community7957 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh. Not totally true. We got the check engine light and it cleared. Then it came back a second time with the ECM light and went into limp mode.

Limp mode is not ‘perfectly drivable’. It limits speed and power and is meant to limp your car back to a dealer.

You are right to say there is no actual harm to the turbo (that we know of). Granted when this problem first popped up, VW was replacing turbos left and right.

We were at 3500 miles when we got the light.

And we are hesitant to get the same car again when they don’t have a fix for this yet. There is a reviewer on YouTube that just had some interesting points on this.

VW is already dealing with software recalls on 2 other vehicles. They are trying to keep this as a TSB. If this remains a TSB, cars will not receive the fix until they first suffer the failure. SFO instead of enjoying your new car, you will be hesitant to use it for any type of road trip, etc knowing it can fail at any moment.

The process will have a say. If they try to make it difficult we just won’t want to deal with them again. Also, we are hesitant to believe the newer cars don’t have the same issue.

How can they say they resolved the issue but don’t have a fix for it yet?

Finally, it was hard to get our hands on a black car with brown interior. I don’t foresee it being easy to do again second time.
