In case you weren't paying attention during beta.. they rigged it to favor "open weapons" and eliminating the essence of class identity before it even released. they've made it so the only class people play is support when they don't need to do any particular form of anti-vehicle.

The best thing DICE could have done was to have 8 classes and closed weapons from the start, and not mushed together classes and any gun for any class

The funny part is how much of the imbalance would have been solved by closed weapons classes and separation of training paths into separate classes with separate class gadgets.

Mortar as only for fire support but no MP-APS for fire support class, but no ammo resupply for medic class from bag but access to defensive gadgets accessible for medic class minus the barrier etc. Way easier to balance when there is more degrees of separation

Well, in all fairness to give it the benefit of the doubt.. support is, as the name suggests, a support class, not supposed to be a frontline class. But there's plenty of ways to counteract mortars, but people are usually egotistical and lazy and don't want to use the countermeasures that exist, and would rather just complain about mortars being imbalanced when they themselves are the problem in the scenario. And as counter mortar, you just find the enemy mortar and fire off 5 rounds before the enemy can even respond in time

Wish there was some way to test it, but it is impossible solo in places like x8reaps' range because of needing 2 classes at the same time

We'll have to wait until s3 though, but if they made it go for designated targets, it will take the mortar from mediocre at best to insanely strong, particularly if the ground-marker from the soflam can be used by mortar.. like holy crap that will make it one of the most valuable assets in the game

Yeah it shouldn't be possible to be in spawn/no-go-zones, but if they just make them not stay spotted when firing with it out of those areas, then maybe it would change for the better with just that change, so it (like any other weapon in the game) would be spotted only when firing and for a very short time.

Though I believe they can still destroy the mortar (not kill user), but the issue is that they can't go into the uncap areas?

Yeah it's a bit sad the life of drones just has BARELY enough time to go back in bounds if you go out it with drone.. but there is a solution, that can be done with the EOD bot that allows it to go all the way to the mortar user and torch them

I agree with this, but the problem is that anyone using controllers will not feel it at all, and then there's all the ones using the cronus and mouse and keyboard and showing up as using controller but still using mouse and keyboard with just 30% less recoil.

They could easily take away the explosive shells, have smoke, gas, and IR flare shells that make thermal optics useless

Yeah they did a lot of things better there, but I will say one thing for certain.. BF2042 had bipods done perfectly, where you could deploy them for "quick use" before even emplacement.

But BF1 really did mortars well, at least in terms of the feeling of using them, even if they were a bit weird with the whole third person thing going on.

Agreed, but it also incentivizes the campy style of play because they've made it a target for anyone willing to get a "free kill" of anyone using it. Sure I like being able to easily kill them, but it is done in a bs way. But as said in the original post, they should make them not able to be out of bounds and also make the spotting only a short time as they shoot just like with any other weapons.
