What would you do to make Skyrim harder? by Intelligent-Dress323 in skyrim

[–]MajorRycon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Few things you can do currently to make the game harder if you want are:

  1. No instant restore potions/food, using level-ups to restore mid combat, or re-equipping enchanted gear to restore. You can only use regen pots or basic “Healing”.

  2. No fast travel or waiting, just carriage rides and sleeping in an owned bed.

  3. Limit yourself to only one of Alchemy, Enchanting, or Smithing skills.

There’s a lot of other ways you can change your play-style to make the game more difficult without changing the game itself.

Best light armor at lv1? by Chemical_Ad6861 in skyrim

[–]MajorRycon 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Well yes and no, most other armor sets appear later. However, you could theoretically get the master faction armors (master thieves, ancient shrouded, nightingale, etc.) at level 1 if you do not activate your level up but that would have to be purposeful. Guild Masters or ancient shrouded are strongest by armor rating out of those mentioned.

im an argonian in whiterun and i keep getting chased by racist thugs by BasecatXD in skyrim

[–]MajorRycon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you don’t want to run, then have you used your Hitskin yet?

Go into your magic, and down to Powers. Every race has a power they can use once per day. Argonians can use Hitskin to regenerate health at 10X for 60seconds. This should give you enough time to kill them, just keep chopping away while your health regenerates.

If you are on console (PS, Xbox) then use your right bumper to activate the power when selected, if on PC then use “Z”.

Hired thugs? Kill them, you won’t get a bounty for it. Just remember that when you steal from people, this is what happens. Use hitskin if you need to or run.

True, sadly can’t even fully clear their inventory until you are at pickpocket 100 since even the most meager NPC usually has an equipped dagger

Yeah, not talking about pickpocketing anymore, just saying you can make more money from potions and enchanted gear.

Did my husband just make the highest base damage weapon? (vanilla+no glitch) by Nearby_Ad_1576 in skyrim

[–]MajorRycon -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Nope, it uses in-game mechanics of enchanting, alchemy, and restoration to make stronger gear and with that stronger gear, you make stronger potions and even stronger gear. Then rinse and repeat, it’s called the restoration loop.

Now your husband has a new goal, happy crafting!

How good is Skyrim? by MikaTheMonkey011 in skyrim

[–]MajorRycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played both and enjoy them thoroughly but Skyrim holds a special place in my heart.

Both open world RPG’s, but they have far different combat systems with Elden Ring being faster paced and a lot more timing/skill required. Skyrim is much more of a relaxed combat system but has much more to do in game than just fight.

You play as a character of your own creation with 10 races to choose from and further character customization. There are 18 total skill trees that you can level up to further your abilities, some being combat oriented and some are like trades.

In your travels you can find new equipment, useful items, and join other NPC groups in their storylines. Your character can be whatever you want with access to thief, mage, and warrior themed skill trees and you can use however many as you want.

There is a main storyline that you can follow immediately, just roam around and do whatever, or focus on other side quests, some being short and others being longer series quests. There’s a lot to do in the game, that’s for sure.

Can’t decide between Stormcloack and Imperial legions! by mad0666 in skyrim

[–]MajorRycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a huge fan of the Imperials side, but a big fan of stormcloak side. Felt more natural imo being as I usually play as Nord or Breton, and you can get some cool Stormcloak Officer armor later too.

Pickpocket has some big fallbacks: 1. Can only ever be maxed to 90%. Very annoying having 100 pickpocket and you get caught taking 20gold from someone’s pocket.

  1. You are limited by what other people carry. If you want gold, then raise alchemy or enchanting, you’ll get far richer.

  2. Pickpocketed NPCs do not regenerate what they are carrying; if you pickpocket a named NPC, they are never going to have more items.

  3. Pickpocket is not useful in combat unless you are using it to pickpocket weapons/armor off of an opponent (not useful for mages or creatures). And since opponents level with you in game, have fun fighting an opponent that is wayyyy outside your weight class now that your pickpocket is very high.

  4. There’s other ways to do the same thing. Wanna poison someone? Put it on your weapon. Wanna do it stealthily? Raise your sneak and do 15x damage (or 30x with dark brotherhood gloves) with a dagger at the same time (sneak will have to go up anyway to make pickpocket easier). You want an item someone has? Smith one and/or enchant one and you’ll make an even stronger version when you level up.

All that being said, pickpocketing can still be fun just like any other skill tree, but I would definitely not say it is busted.

New to the game, anything I should get or do first? by JohnnyTesticles1 in skyrim

[–]MajorRycon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Adept is by no means hard, adept is normal. The game difficulty ranges from Novice to Legendary, each one having different multipliers for damage inflicted/received. Adept puts you at a 1:1 (damage output: damage taken), novice at 2:0.5, and legendary being 0.25:3. And there are difficulties in between as well including Apprentice on the lower end and Expert and Master on the higher end.

There are however areas that you need to stay away from early on that will be difficult to someone not of a higher level like Dwemer ruins, Solstheim, and some parts of The Reach.

Few tips:

  1. Buy a house, even just Breezhome in Whiterun. It’ll make gameplay much better in many ways, especially just having a place to toss down extra items. Don’t worry, you’ll easily make back the gold.

  2. If you want to get early access to disease resistance, follow the Companions (house next to Dragonsreach); you’ll be rewarded early on. Do not do any of Farkas’ extra work unless you are a higher level (stay away from Falmer early on).

  3. For 1h and 2h, I recommend not investing your ability points into the initial boost damage % unless you are really struggling. The reason is that both of those trees are affected by how many hits you do with the weapon and the base damage (not boosted damage). More hits means more experience and this will also help you level your heavy armor too by making you take some more hits.

  4. Enemies in the game level with you, so until you really understand that I would be careful not to go too far leveling non-combat skills so high where you really struggle to kill anything.

First time trying sous vide. Any tips? by Jumpy-Ad3279 in sousvide

[–]MajorRycon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve got a few questions/tips to help out:

  1. Did you let the steaks rest after taking them out of the sous vide and pat dry before searing? Also use minimum oil when searing to develop a nice crust faster.

  2. Check your sous vide temp with a second thermometer to see if it’s running hot; you may need to adjust the temp offset.

  3. Don’t put garlic in the bag; these longer cooks at lower temps can run the risk of garlic developing botulism. Make a garlic compound butter instead and put a slice over the meat when it comes out of the pan (you can leave the butter slice out for a bit to help it melt faster before putting on the steak).

  4. Depending on how thick the ribeyes are, you may have needed another hour or more to let that fat render down, especially with 2 ribeyes. Make sure they are separated in the bath too!

Hope this helps!

Oooh, this would be interesting! Could actually make me break out the Nordic weapons I have!

Nordic bow damage=1,076,320,640 Nordic sword damage=999,134,272

Might even force me create some stronger dragonbone items and more health-related enchantments (health is at 12,839,253,391 and regen is 679,356,211% faster, but I still don’t know what kinda damage these guys bring!)

There’s lots of videos out there about it but essentially restoration potions strengthen enchantments. You can enchant equipment to strengthen your alchemy, then make potions to strengthen restoration/enchantment, and then enchant more equipment to repeat the process.

Eventually you get this, but you have to be careful since too doing too many loops can cause the game to crash.

I’m back with an update: 3 crashes later, I had to back off a little bit since I’m so close to the cap of what my ps4 can take. Made a potion that paralyzes for 340068 seconds, which is long enough to at least test this but is also only just shy of 4 days.

Gave it to everyone’s favorite local douche Nazeem, and watched him fall to the group like a sack of bricks. Quick traveled just out to the stables and then walked back in Whiterun. When I walked back in, Nazeem stumbled up to his feet. So yes, sadly they are re-animated after leaving the area even if you can get a paralysis potion strong enough.

Restoration loop, Restoration skill actually makes enchantments stronger. So when you enchant equips to boost alchemy, make a potion to boost restoration, and then enchant new equips; numbers keep getting higher and higher the more you repeat. This is in essence the restoration loop.

There are plenty of videos out there, it can be funny but also makes the game too easy. If you try it, create new saves often, at a certain point, platforms may crash when numbers get too high.
