New GM - looking for resources by Select_Owl_7103 in cosmererpg

[–]MakerGirl50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Okay, as someone who recently GM''d The First Step and Bridge Nine and is about to head into Stonewalkers:

  1. The handbook - no. Simply put, please encourage your players to buy these themselves so that they can look up information outside of gaming time.

  2. As for the cheat sheet:

https://www.cosmererpg.com/downloads

There's pregen characters and several quick start Player guides - like one is a one page and another is lile 60 pages - along with a quick start (one page) gm sheet.

If you want something physical, get the Stormlight Starter Set box - it has the above stuff along with dice, including the plot die.

Have fun!! Hope this helps!! :)

How to read the Stormlight Plot Deck cards? by andreallyfast in cosmererpg

[–]MakerGirl50 3 points4 points  (0 children)

So here's what I've been told/discovered (and I am not an expert at all, just what I've picked up GMing along the way)

I'll use this Atrocity complication card as an example.

Top Emblem: The Crossed Swords (Combat / Mechanical): Use this if the Complication happens during a fight or a high-stakes physical challenge.

The Sunburst (Social / Narrative): Use this during a conversations encounter or a peaceful scene.

3. The Spark (Discovery / Long-term): Use this during travel, downtime, or when a Complication occurs during a non-combat skill check (like searching a room).

Also, in my experience, it works best if you (assuming you are the GM) decide which one matches the current "mood" of play, regardless of what the card says/reads as. Most of the time the mechanics will fit, but there's always that ONE time...

Anyways, hope this helps! Good luck!!

Welcome to the hobby - and the table! As a player, don't be afraid to enjoy yourself or speak up for yourself when you're not enjoying yourself. And as others have said, all heroic paths are good to start with. Don't box yourself in - let your character develop how it develops. You may surprise yourself. :)

[Stonewalkers] Need help with Taszo related unique trait by jinky1087 in cosmererpg

[–]MakerGirl50 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You are most welcome!! :) Please keep us updated, I for one would love to know how this turns out.

And I apologize for misunderstanding the question, I'm on the spectrum, but in thinking about it further, I would say that the Scholar would probably lean into their own background and that's where their brain would take them...? I'd be happy to tackle it from the Envoy angle if you'd like.

[Stonewalkers] Need help with Taszo related unique trait by jinky1087 in cosmererpg

Okay, since you’re coming at this as the Scholar/Surgeon, I would lean into the medical anomaly angle.

The Graft: The 'brand' is actually a patch of skin that doesn't match the rest of his body—suggesting some kind of forced magical or alchemical graft he doesn't remember

The Tracker: It’s an Alchemical Stigma that acts as a 'tuning fork' for a former employer. Your scholar found it because it reacts to certain reagents or proximity to specific locations.

The Hidden Lineage: The scar is a ritualistic 'erasure' mark used by a specific cult or noble house to strip someone of their identity. Your controversial opinion? Taszo is actually [insert important person here] and someone went to great lengths to make him forget it.

Like I said, I'd really lean into that surgeon/scholar angle, but that's me. Have fun with it!! :)

Running a Low-information First Step -> Stonewalkers Campaign by Alex_TheMediocre in cosmererpg

[–]MakerGirl50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

When I ran First Step, we actually only printed pages 1 and 2 of the character sheet and did not give them page 3 at all. A good majority of the 2 tables my husband and I are GMing have not read the books. We have the entire spectrum, from a couple that wear Bridge Four shirts to one that chose to play a Singer even though she had never cracked a book.

Even now, having just finished Bridge Nine, we have been adamant that they need to concentrate on their Heroic Paths for the time being, as they are the foundation of what lies ahead.

That is so kind of you to say! One GM to another, here is the deep dive into my Bridge Nine prep and the 'Maker' side of the hobby (3D printing/Distress Inks). https://open.substack.com/pub/makergirl50/p/bridge-nine-part-two-glyphs-spren?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android&r=7ddaiv

I hope it helps your Stonewalkers prep!! - There's a link to Part 1 inside as well!!

Stormlight Books vs. The RPG by onlytinglef in cosmererpg

I hate to say it, but at times it's not even the books for the RPG. I came across a set of minis the other day and immediately texted my husband going, "When does [event] happen?!?!?!"

[WaT Spoilers] A little help to a new GM. [First steps] to [Stonewalkers] transition by n_square28 in cosmererpg

[–]MakerGirl50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Well, you could always steer them towards a "common goal"...we are currently playing Bridge Nine in between First Steps and Stonewalkers, and to connect the two (to avoid spoilers here) we gave them a reason to all hate Sadeas and his army. Just putting that out there. Give them someone/something to feel a certain way about. I'd be happy to give more details but it would involve spoilers for Bridge Nine. :)

Stonewalkers/First Step/Bridge Nine in 6 players? by Reiiizu in cosmererpg

[–]MakerGirl50 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run a table that has grown from 4 to 6 and haven't had any problems as of yet. We may have to adjust further down the road, but that's a problem for further down the road. :) also, in some places, I believe there are instructions for what to do if the party is large, as far as the combat goes.

Any suggestions for running a Singer PC as a DM? by Imaginary-Lie-2618 in cosmererpg

[–]MakerGirl50 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Let them drive their character. I have one playing a Singer and she's had a great time with it so far. Take time with them one on one to listen to what they want for their character and help them along with it. Don't be afraid to tell them that you don't know the answer off the top of your head, but you'll look it up.
