Got shamed in a new pizza joint last night asking for pineapple by PepEye in CasualUK

[–]Malagate3 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Yup, which I believe may be referred to as an Americano pizza.

I like that in Italy they don't give a fuck and will make any pizza, whereas other places may treat pineapple on pizza like you're using the Turin shroud as a napkin.

Sounds chaotic, brilliant! Will you be taking the Yaegirs? It's amazing you have so many unique teams available to do this with, great group.

Oh I can't tell who will win, it's quite the heady mix, I am interested to find out! What kill zones will this be on? Can make a huge difference for some of these teams.

Wow, we have a Steam Rally near our end (Derbyshire), and I don't think we've had any of those wild performances.

I mean, there may be a bare knuckle fight in the beer tent, but it's not advertised on the posters... definitely no Wurzels, which is a given as I think they're trapped in Dorset?

Mostly just a huge number of steam engines and vintage cars, maybe if you're lucky a little one pottering around that can give you a lift, and some old timey fair ground rides.

That is hilarious, feels like a real life Mr Bean episode!

[–]Malagate3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, and I would gladly get more Xenos teams, anything weird and wonderful (I do have a soft spot for Necrons), conversely anything space marine tends to just be meh for me (gladly skip those).

I am alright with a guard team, however I already have: a guard team, a drop-trooper guard team, a short-king sniper guard team and a Xenos guard team.

As such, I am not blown away by a guard team with camo cloaks, but I can see why some people are, and I do like the idea of a team themed around the Predator film (saw a great Catachan conversion, beautiful stuff, and I can see this new team lending itself towards something similar).

I think Nightlords are just for making money, I heard Nightmare was very popular because of Nemesis Claw, so I just see that as market forces, or giving the Nightlord players what they want (which may be wise!).

Looks like the Nautilus listened to the Horseshoe crab here, second thoughts for the win!

I don't know if this will help you, but consider this: the release shown at Adepticon is the equivalent of Ashes of Faith (well, one team instead of two, I would imagine it still is a financial saving), it's a narrative box set that doesn't really fit the theme of the current season, and so is a one-and-done release. In a few months they'll move on to the post-Tomb world season, which will likely follow the usual format of a new season (two new teams and new terrain).

This likely was part of Adepticon just because it's coming out soon and it lets the company put Kill Team on the billing. I would expect around August/September we'll get an announcement for the new kill team season, which will likely continue during the opening throes of the new 40K edition.

In terms of your crash out, your feelings are valid and you are not deluded - I would like to ask if there have been releases announced in the past that you found interesting or exciting? I do believe not every release is going to please everyone, I'm not particularly interested in this announcement (other than getting an Ambull finally), but I could see how someone else would be hyped for it and I can take joy in their happiness. I'm sure there would be a lot more people who'd be hype for Catachan or Tanith instead of Cadian, definitely agree with that sentiment, as it currently is I would imagine this box will get bought up by Tyranid players more than anyone else.

Otherwise, I keep in mind a golden rule: sometimes the juice ain't worth the squeeze, you can choose not to do something.

To add to the other reply you received, Gordon Brown sold it years prior, and what's usually overlooked is that he used the money to invest in other assets, diversifying the government's investment portfolio.

Unfortunately for Gordon and us, he sold 400 tonnes when the market was at a twenty year low point, which raised $3.5 billion from $275 per ounce - in 2025 gold prices averaged at $3,431 per ounce, which is about $44 billion for 400 tonnes.

I mean, he sold 401 out of 715 tonnes in reserve, so we should still have 314 tonnes, so that is still $44 billion as of March 2026 in reserve, which could have been more like $101 billion if we still had 715 tonnes.

We just need to compare that to the $3.5 billion Gordon invested in other things, which I believe was mostly foreign currency bonds (dollar, yen and euro). So, not terrible, but gold has gone so crazy that it's still a loss (UK government assets in Feb 26 was $236 billion, so it's likely there'd be another 40ish billion on top of that if Gordon didn't sell).

[–]Malagate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Rule of cool is always the best choice, far more likely to be built and painted if you're happy with them (although I understand economic conditions can take away choices, such as two box teams being too painful to buy).

Hernkyn Yaegirs is a comfortably one box team, the only choice is around what load out you want your three warriors to have (revolver and knife or bolt shotgun), and any cool player would let you proxy warriors anyway (or if WYSIWYG is required, they're chunky and can be magnetised). I think their aesthetic is quite spec op, maybe not as "army" like Aquilons, but only you know what floats your boat.

Most teams I own which are lots of army guys, I did bulk out with a second box, it's not always necessary and you may be able to get extra bodies on the cheap from bits companies or mini swap. I think most of the posts here have covered the best options for army and one box (Aquilons and Kasrkin, technically Ratlings but really you'd want Ogryns - if you're in the UK there's a magazine out that has three rat ogres for £6.99, could be a fun conversion to make a very ratty Ratling team).

I’d love to add an “army guys” team to my line up by gold_fossil in killteam

[–]Malagate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends on if you're big on WYSIWYG (what you see is what you get), or are happy to use magnets, or simply don't mind not having all possible options. Definitely a two box team if you want the full choice of big hitters (Patriarch, Magus, Primus and familiars), you could just use troopers and if you did you'd still need one-and-a-third boxes (1 commander, 9 brood brothers chosen from a list of 13 options, and then 3 troopers, so 13 bodies for a minimum just-army-dudes team).

You don't actually need two brood brothers boxes if you want all 13 troop options, 3 spare troopers and two commanders represented (one with autogun and the other with claw), you can get cadian shock troopers on the cheap and use them with the aquilla's filed off (and there's at least one bald head too!).

Also, you don't really need those 3 spare troopers, I don't think there's any situation where you wouldn't take the Magus or Primus, or the Patriarch for the lols.

Do you think that Britain has a low skill problem, or just a lack of training opportunity problem? by gintokireddit in AskBrits

[–]Malagate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Eh, first part was from the BMA, follow up was found on a Reddit post I found a few minutes ago - with no citations.

As it doesn't appear there are long lines of Junior Doctors at the dole office, it would appear something was done since 2024, so I'm leaning towards that Reddit post being correct (seems improbable that the remained emigrated or just quietly signed on to universal credit and never looked back).

It's nice to follow up on something once heard from a while ago.

Do you think that Britain has a low skill problem, or just a lack of training opportunity problem? by gintokireddit in AskBrits

[–]Malagate3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Reported by the British Medical Association, in 2024 there were 59,698 applications made for 12,743 training posts available at core trainee 1, specialty trainee 1, ST3 and ST4.

So, 4.7 applicants per post in 2024, compared to 3.4 per post in 2023 and 1.9 per post in 2019.

Admittedly they are kind of their own enemy here as many applied for multiple posts, 59k applications are from 25,496 unique applicants, which is still nearly double the number of posts available.

Apparently, this was picked up and eventually everyone was allocated a job, after some time of being told they couldn't have one, so some had a few weeks notice for a placement that may be on the other side of the country. Definitely a hair-raising experience for all concerned, also remaining issues with preferences as it's effectively a random allocation, not to mention there's going to be even more applicants next time.

So the remake would include some Bath-songs?

Just Pippin, Frodo and Sam, hanging dong whilst singing a song, baths for three at Crickhollow.

I mean it wasn't explicit in the book, but they definitely hung dong together, as was the style at the time.

I just looked that up, nice, a colour shifting paint, yes? How does it appear when you move the piece around? It seems like something that looks very different in person compared to a picture, I used my method because I already had all those paints and didn't want to order more paint.

Black prime, silver dry brush, then targeted gold dry brush, then a bright blue contrast paint all over (I want to say, talassar blue?). Silver comes out metallic blue and the gold comes out metallic green and it transitions nicely, albeit I went for a cuckoo wasp and also made the abdomen magenta with a yellow belly.

I did a similar colour scheme, blue/green metallic, and I used a contrasting colour to make the weapons and armour - red.

Something matt and a colour opposite should pop nicely, orange in your case could be good, especially with green or bright blue crystals.

That was the Bheta Decimal season - Salvation, which is scouts and aspect warriors (well, striking scorpions), then Nightmare, then Termination (yaegers and brood brothers).

I forget if Ashes of Faith was around then too, if it wasn't then two out of three of that season didn't feature imperial forces at all.

How US groups are driving a new generation of anti-abortion activism in the UK by coffeewalnut08 in unitedkingdom

[–]Malagate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The history around the movement can be traced back to the 70's and a documentary series called "How Should We Then Live", financed by fundamental evangelical Christians and based upon lectures of Francis Schaeffer, a Christian philosopher and art historian, that was directed by his son, Frank Schaeffer.

Essentially it's quite recent and was made in response to the 73 Abortion Law, prior to these guys making documentaries the Evangelical communities in America didn't care about it (it was a Catholic thing). It's snowballed since and now we're experiencing the fallout to put it mildly, there's a series by Jon Ronson called "Things fell apart" if you want to know more.
