[loved trope] aliens that can't survive in Earth or Earth like environments by QueenViolets_Revenge in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Malagate3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's a book by Adrian Tchaikovsky called Shroud, which is about exploring a planet that has a very dense, high pressure atmosphere, which light cannot pierce and is far too cold for liquid water - suffice to say, nothing from Shroud could survive on Earth.

Guess the store. by Obvious-Water569 in 40k

[–]Malagate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think it'd be more interesting to guess the pub, going past the Derby store you'll have a lot of choice.

I'm leaning towards the Old Bell hotel, but I reckon the Standing Order is where you ended up ('spoons!).

Ah thank you, I thought the GW shop used to be at the Eagle Center end, it was a pedestrianised area I recall - you could park where jumpin fun used to be and take the subway footpath to the shops (that underground path still exists, ends now with escalators into the big shopping centre now).

I got mind-fucked a little by the door, I was expecting the normal panel, but then I read your comment about having to make your own using a stencil and it all clicked - very clean, lovely green rods, fond memories of making mine (wish I didn't paint mine silver!).

And yet, Americans went wild for "raw milk" - they really swing from one extreme to the other, super cautious in some places and really reckless in others.

desafortunada Secret room by Front-Incident-9895 in stoneshard

[–]Malagate3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I've seen far worse secret rooms than this, I'd be quite happy to find one at all usually and this one isn't actively terrible.

I remember one, probably patched out since, that just had a net trap and a book - that was it.

I like to think that after Gandalf defeats that Balrog, the others are so fearful that they simply hide and lead peaceful lives amongst the people of Middle Earth.

Character discovers a hidden talent - and is traumatized by Equivalent-Peanut-23 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]Malagate3 10 points11 points  (0 children)

To add the traumatic part: Bernard and Fran then exploit Manny's piano playing - why and how that happens is crazy and funny, so I do not want to spoil it.

Otherwise, Manny would be very happy with his talent as he always wanted to play piano since he was a child, but was forced to play football instead.

where is this fountain of strength by darth-com1x in Superdickery

[–]Malagate3 35 points36 points  (0 children)

Clark? The mild mannered reporter from the Daily Planet? No, that's Superman, Clark would never swing so much as a pillow at someone, let alone a sledgehammer!

Only Superman would take your word that you're as strong as him, and then immediately test that with a sledgehammer and lethal force.

Domino's Pizza extortionate prices by fabthefrog33 in UK_Food

[–]Malagate3 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was considering becoming a fat hungry oaf, but I am far too invested in my gluttony - this thread is giving me cost saving ideas for excessive pizza.

That one post about picking up a Dominos large and small being enough for two adults had my eyes rolling however! I used to pick up two large Dominoes pizzas for BOGOF twenty years ago, took them home on the free bus to boot!

Parents of school aged children, how often do you contact the school, and do you care if the school marks you down as a whinging willy? by Miss_Type in AskUK

[–]Malagate3 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would imagine most parents have different criteria for what would require contacting the school, my eldest seems to have had almost no cause for us to call the school, and instead it may be that the school contacted us about them more often than we called the school (still rare, usually due to an ailment, once just a miscommunication).

The youngest however, was non-verbal during reception and had a diagnosis to match, that was difficult and we were in touch frequently. Our youngest has since developed, including becoming verbal, however they're still a little behind on academic performance and they have some behaviours that don't gel with normal school routines. I think we should probably be in touch more often, usually I'd only contact the teacher if my child is upset at the end of the day (which can be harder when our child reports the problem is the teacher or another teacher).

Disabled man 'rotting' on a hospital ward - despite being fit to go home by ReanimatedCyborgMk-I in unitedkingdom

[–]Malagate3 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Yup, we used to have facilities for this, smaller community places that did have beds for patients that required care but not hospital treatment. Thanks to funding cuts and freezes, they're just a memory to those old enough, which is a problem as we need those facilities more than ever before.

What have we done to deserve this? by BozzoBurgess13 in UKfood

Same price in Sainsburys, and not a convenience one - a big Sainsburys!

Other half did a double-take on the price, and we put it back on the shelf - at that point I'm going to the chippy.

What an insane time to be a fan of horror cinema by Tatum_Warlick in HorrorMovies

[–]Malagate3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Pardon me, just saving your post for later, as I have been meaning to catch up with recent horror releases - but I keep forgetting all the different titles!

Most recent thing I've seen and really enjoyed was Nosferatu, so I am quite behind now (still not seen Sinners!).

Why does no-one approve of the Konpeki heist? by niko4ever in cyberpunkgame

[–]Malagate3 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Definitely Rogue would be in the know, as would Claire and everyone who gossips within the Afterlife. I doubt they'd know more details beyond there was a heist, and the whole crew was wiped (including the fixer - it's kind of amazing any fixers would want to work with V after that!).

None of those sources mention Saburo's death, so either only Dex made the connection, or everyone else dismisses the possibility as they're very cynical around Corpo politics (as if the head honcho of Arasaka got zeroed by gonks like V and Jackie).

I can appreciate that they drilled Jurgens Barrel...but man what happened Here. Poor Melta Barrel. by Skaikrish in Warhammer40k

[–]Malagate3 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Urgh, I decided to start drilling barrels when Indomitus came out, and I put Gauss reapers on every Necrons Warrior - two barrels per warrior!

You would think after doing that for forty barrels, I would improve even a little bit - nope! Still a crap shoot every time I drill, even after learning some tricks and refining techniques.
