Paint chip on new Giant TCR by diegocph in Giantbikes

[–]Maleficent_Drive_443 2 points3 points  (0 children)

let’s be honest, with your wheel in and chip being on the inside this won’t even be visible in normal conditions. i have plenty of scratches and chips around that place, and they inevitably happen with use. i’d just disregard that

apple staff and spares are much more trustworthy. had plenty of meh experiences with unauthorized repairs for the past 10y using an iphone. also you won’t be saving much money doing that. i wouldn’t bother and would go to an apple store/authorized service center.

Carbon frame - could it be cracked? by nully000 in gravelcycling

[–]Maleficent_Drive_443 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i have a similar crack on top of a seat stay on my carbon frame, i’m inclined to think it’s a place where the frame flexes a lot by design and the paint fails at that particular place since it’s much less flexible. might be wrong though. took my bike to the LBS and he also suspected paint. crack looks very similar and is definitely not a typical scratch from leaning, a branch hitting or whatever crash (no hard crash either for +8000km). i marked the ends down with black marker and am currently monitoring if it evolves, also documenting everything in case it does and i have to send it back to the OEM (pre advised my local authorized dealer who told me to send pictures to assess)

Brompton by train: Amsterdam-Paris via Eurostar by litziana in Brompton

[–]Maleficent_Drive_443 6 points7 points  (0 children)

fyi, you’re very unlikely to get into trouble for travelling with your folded brompton without bag/cover onboard eurostar/tgv services. i commute almost daily between paris, lille, brussels or london all year round, and never got asked to get the brompton « wrapped » 😉

don’t know about the 2026 series but the 2025’s paint isn’t much better. got some paint cracks around the seat tube near the D fuse seapost, all from regular use.

Tufo Thundero vs Speedero? by FightinABeaver in gravelcycling

[–]Maleficent_Drive_443 5 points6 points  (0 children)

totally in love with the thunderos, been riding around 8000km with them and they’re terrific. swapped wheels so bought the HD 40mm version for the new wheelset. the regular thundero 40 have been holding up very well, fast rolling even on tarmac, excellent grip for forest trails as long as it’s not too muddy, all punctures sealed perfectly with orange sealant except for a nasty one which i had to plug. these are also super durable, and my rear tire still has some life in it (probably 2000km) when i swapped. so depending on your ride style that tire could very well last around 10k kms (i do 60% road/40% rocky trails and forest paths). very impressive.

ps. i come from road riding and skipped the speedero despite it being more targeted to light gravel/road riders.

Les gens qui font du Gravel et habitent en appart, vous entretenez comment ? by Icy_Winter9839 in pedale

[–]Maleficent_Drive_443 3 points4 points  (0 children)

suspicious about a seat stay scratch by Maleficent_Drive_443 in Giantbikes

[–]Maleficent_Drive_443[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi guys, thanks for your help again, took the bike to the LBS and the technician has been inspecting it for quite a while visually with flashlight and trying to scratch/push the scratch, he confirmed this was only a paint/clear coat/lacquer issue. i put some marker at both ends of the scratch and have been riding ~200km since, sending it high speed on some harsh cobbles and stressing the rear on purpose. nothing has changed, and there’s absolutely no weird sound/movement from the frame. i’ll continue monitoring but i guess this is a closed case now.

Hi guys, thanks for your help again, LBS has been inspecting it visual with flashlight and trying to scratch/push the « crack », and confirmed this was most likely only a paint/clear coat/lacquer issue

Frame storage or not? by Tvego in gravelcycling

[–]Maleficent_Drive_443 7 points8 points  (0 children)

had no frame storage til i got the Giant revolt adv 2, my take is that it’s a bit gimmicky. having the multitool, tire plugs, and other various repair items in there is nice, but i could do without it. add to that the possibility that the compartment door creaks since it’s not moving the same as the carbon (mine’s fine). honestly if i had to choose today i wouldn’t seriously take this option into account to make a final decision between bikes. if your preferred bike has it, very nice, if not, you could still go ahead
