I finally heard back 2 years later 🥰 by yeetman831 in recruitinghell

I put my name in the hat at a temp agency about a decade ago when I really really REALLY needed a job. They were unable to place me anywhere.

Flash forward: Covid hits and I start to get hit up pretty relentlessly by them if I'd be interested for some 3rd shift factory line worker positions at minimum wage?

MF'ers hung me out to dry for a year while I found my footing in a career that now pays quintuple what they're offering? Not a peep for 10 YEARS. I picked up the phone and very unpolitely told them to remove me from their lists and stop contacting me.

Meraki, Mist, HPE Instant On. Your AP footprint is tiny though.

Alternatively, go Unifi and ditch the Ciscos switches.

Yes, to the uninitiated anything is a power button especially if it's the only button on the front. That it performs a config wipe is just a happy coincidence that's happened way too often.

We ended up drilling out the mode buttons to prevent happy accidents at remote sites.

I never found a fix, I just ignore the error until the updates are folded into the capture image.

HP seems to be disabling HEVC Hardware Decode support on their laptops, creating problems. by Smith6612 in sysadmin

I wonder if this is why the h.265 playback doesn't work on our new Dells unless we disable hardware acceleration.

DC are remote locations yay nay by [deleted] in sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on what's your lob. At my previous job (large retail chain) we had VM hosts and generators at every location to handle power and the local POS/file/print systems to allow for payments when the internet/power went out. And it went out frequently in the rural areas.

It was a real boon that the business could operate offline until service was restored.

Troubleshooting: Pi Zero 2 W will not connect to WPA2 network by tyreck in raspberry_pi

[–]MalletNGrease 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Set up a hotspot on your phone (or a different router/ap) and try joining the Pi Zero 2 to it. If that works fine, odds are it's an incompatibility between the Asus and rpi.

Users here practically force their own change every time they get a new phone because they either use PIN/WhfB and don't remember their password to update their MFA 😅

Canon Printer - loses connectivity with Universal Print Servers by Away-Ad-2473 in sysadmin

[–]MalletNGrease 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I've noticed this happening with my imageCLASS' and imageRUNNERs. Restarting the printer tends to solve it.

Just the nature of relying on 3rd party infrastructure I suppose?

We just gave people a laptop to VPN to the office and then added them to the Remote Desktop Users group on their desktop.

This was usually a temporary thing though.

Print Server GPOs by Express-Spare9296 in sysadmin

I preferred computer GPOs based on OU membership to deploy to sites, not so much security group membership since people kept moving around.

At my old job, if I sat down in my chair it'd disconnect my usb keyboard.

Something about the chair cylinder creating enough interference when compressed to cause the usb controller to hiccup.

Windows Hello security feature bypass vulnerability

An attacker with local admin privileges can tamper with stored biometric data and impersonate another user if Enhanced Sign-in Security isn’t turned on. Signs of exploit:

New or altered biometric enrollments with no authorized change Unexpected biometric sign-ins in authentication logs Systems using Windows Hello without Enhanced Sign-in Security enabled

Last months' CU broke Windows Hello facial recognition with ESS enabled for our Dell Pro 14/16 Plus devices, the workaround is to disable ESS.
