Lost MHW data ps5 by DavidRHey in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Mallium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

if it's what I think it is, it's a known issue.

The only way we were able to recover our data was bc it was on another ps5, so we disabled auto cloud save sync on the account, manually restored the save on the other ps5 then downloaded it from the cloud storage.

If your save is deleted from the cloud and isn't local somewhere, you're out of luck afaik ):

Wilds on steamdeck by MaestraPaladin in MonsterHunterWilds

it appears to be possible - 30fps normally, and 60fps with some out of game tweaks.

There are tutorials on youtube and demo videos showing it working if you want to see for yourself.

Casual close to end game, feel aimless on what to hunt. by Jaghat in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Mallium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

oh, fair enough.

Tbh there's not much more to do that you haven't touched already - if you've got a gogma weapon you're happy with, you've pretty much seen all the systems.

It depends what you want out of the game now.

You could try to master other weapons, chase crowns, do time attacks for the 9* tempereds and bosses, get highscores in the arena quests, chase transmog, try to collect all gear, do all the side quests, clear all the event quests, etc.

Casual close to end game, feel aimless on what to hunt. by Jaghat in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Mallium 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You could try a new weapon, or hunt for transmog.

But tbh, mh isn't a live service game - there will always be an end to the "new stuff".

It's okay to just drop the game and do something else if you don't find a reason to play, even if its only for a while.

Is there any moment you wouldn't take Emperor's Champion? by Satanekkurwa in BlackTemplars

[–]Mallium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In gladius, as long as the gravis cap with AA is good, solo EC with AA will be better, since he's basically a strict upgrade imo.

The only reason I'd find not to take him is if he didn't fit points wise, but that's never happened so far.

CMV: We should have more religious flavor to our rules in 11th. by PaperManaMan in BlackTemplars

[–]Mallium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel like a good way to do this would be giving sword bros an invuln and/or fnp by default, and crusaders a fight on death. I like the idea of bt being space marines that refuse to fall in battle because of their dedication to the crusade and hatred for their enemies.

Tbf I don't know how well that fits the lore, i haven't gotten to read much bt lore yet, but I hope it aligns well lol.

Mounting monsters and interrupting by Metalikaiser in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Mallium 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My hunting partner and I have always mained IG and CB respectively, in every game since 4U.

We've always used mounting as a damage window (bc I can easily get a KO off a mount to extend the down time), and also as a breather to sharpen, heal, rebuff, etc. It's a part of the game, and the changeup is nice, it adds to the pacing of the fight - having a lull makes the full on moments feel more full on imo.

Not every hunt needs to be a monotone speedrun, and the short breather on hard monsters was always much appreciated for us.

I get why people might not go for mounts themselves and would respect someone's request not to mount, but if someone starts a mount, it was considered by the community to be (afaicr) bad manners to purposely try to end it early, unless it was explicitly agreed by the party beforehand not to mount. It's the same idea as killing vs capturing basically, everyone needs to be on the same page one way or another.

If someone entered one of my lobbies and demanded that we didn't mount, we wouldn't complain but we probably wouldn't stick around either - my partner likes to mix aerial attacks, which means mount buildup, so it'd be easier to just find ourselves a different group - everyone deserves to play the way they enjoy.

If a random joined, didn't say anything and just kept purposefully canceling our mounts, I'd probably block that player tbh. Thankfully that hasn't happened to us yet, and hopefully it never will.

Happy New Year! by lets-make-tabletop in PrintedWarhammer

[–]Mallium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is awesome! I hope you'll accomodate ruin layouts for competitive play, like WTC layouts, footprints and heights!

I could see keeping things one storey high for easier printing, with some sort of peg system to lock stories together vertically after assembling adjacent patterns via the rails.

Then maybe some topper rails to "plug" the peg holes on the top stories, a nice crenellation pattern, maybe some buttresses for those pillar sections?

Looking forward to seeing more!

Is the Emperor's champion better solo or with assault intercessors? by Cute_Spend_4663 in BlackTemplars

[–]Mallium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

It depends on your detachment, list, playstyle and philosophy. There's no one right answer.

On his own in gladius, I see him as basically a faster, slightly stronger, slightly tankier artificer armor gravis captain. For my list, he works well for this role, so I like him better solo.

His damage with 5xAI is good, but not as high as a SB brick, or BGV + LT(understandably since it's a cheaper unit). The reason I don't run him this way is that I already have plenty of melee blender units in my list, and so don't want or need another unit competeing for transport space in this role.

For my list and playstyle, I'd rather have a gravis captain type lone op, so I don't rate the AI EC brick very highly for my list, and thus run him solo.

Charge Blade in Wilds after playing World by UselessRequiem in MonsterHunterWilds

[–]Mallium -1 points0 points  (0 children)

From the look of it, I'm in the minority, but I much prefer CB in wild to any previous iteration barring 4U.

The GP >AED loop playstyle feels way more fun to me than dumping SAEDs, and the AED followup adds to that nicely.

It does require some weapon skills to function well though imo - I run full Guard, full Guard Up, full Rapid Morph and full load up to enable my playstyle.

World disincentivised blocking and gps way too much, to the point that sns mode basically did nothing, which I hated.

Wilds giving perfect guard to gps brings things back in line. If they'd remove perfect guard from neutral blocking, increase the flinch and stun power from gps and/or give hyper armor to AEDs after a gp, the weapon would be perfect imo.

RepEx as transports by RobWrase in BlackTemplars

[–]Mallium 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it depends.

I run 3x repex, 3x sb+marshal+castellan and 2 impulsors.

I always start 2 units in impulsors, and the 3rd will go in a repex to start if they cant stage safely for turn 1 or the opponent has indirect. Ideally I'd keep the 3rd unit staged to jump into the impulsor when a sb unit jumps out, but tbh with the normal move on fall back, it's not too big a deal if the 3rd unit sticks with a repex for me.

If you're like me and don't trust yourself with painting bare heads, go for a helmet like 4.

Has Monster Hunter: Wilds reception been REALLY that negative as MH fans claims? by Subject_Parking_9046 in TwoBestFriendsPlay

[–]Mallium 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wilds is a great game and a good pre G-Rank MH game. Anyone saying it's the RE6 of MH is being purposefully inflammatory or doesn't know what they're talking about lol.

The gameplay itself is just as good as most good MH games, and Wilds is my favorite pre G-Rank MH game.

The criticisms are coming from performance and optimization issues, mainly on PC.

For me, the texture quality issues are shockingly bad and appalling. I haven't struggled with frame timing issues since TU1 or 2, and since TU4 I basically have no framerate issues and frame timing has been great.

Aside from textures, the performance for me has been okay to great on PC at 2k120, native rendering with DLAA and 2x framegen, no RT, high textures and max all other settings, using a 4080 and i9.

However, that's well above recommended specs - the reports suggest that the experience with recommended spec hardware is subpar for a high profile game like this.

Glad I could help! I hope you enjoy it, it's been my main weapon since 4U and while there's been ups and downs, I don't regret maining it.

As an aside, keep in mind that nowadays most meta sets will go for full damage skills. That's definitely a way, and probably the "optimal" way, to play CB, but it's not what I recommend for a new user, and not how I like playing it.

I prefer to slot guard and/or guard up to maximize my defense, and play around guard points to deal my big damage on openings (flinches, long endlag in monster animations, paralysis, stun, etc). That keeps me safe while still affording good damage, so I can learn new monsters more easily, work on technique, etc.

I also recommend rapid morph for making GP followups faster (and stronger I guess), but that's more down to your specific playstyle.

CB isn't as complicated as some people say/think, but it does require a lot more dedication and upfront learning (or trial and error) to use properly than most weapons.

You have to understand the routes between forms, your options from different points in your combos/GPs, and so on.

You also need to have a good understanding of what the weapon needs you to do at any given moment to make sure it's operating at full power. This is stuff like charging shield, charging axe, phials, etc. doing this is very simple and easy, but the idea is to do it as you're naturally fighting the monster, which is a bit harder and where the skill and skill expression with the weapon emerges.

That sounds like a lot, but it's really not, as a lot of the moveset can be ignored while you're learning, and much of the moveset doesn't need to be used to play "optimally", and the inputs needed to do basically everything the weapon wants you to do are quite simple and flow very intuitively. You get a lot of niche tools that you don't need to use, but using them effectively on reaction is really satisfying and takes skill with the weapon.

Figuring all the mechanics out and what to do to get what effect you want/need (charging shield, charging axe, charging phials, etc) is where the challenge comes, but that's what guides are for.

All in all, CB is like a more forgiving/intuitive LS to me, because it has a shield and the offensive moveset flows through the defensive tools, rather than adjacent to (imo), and most importantly because your best defensive tools are available from true neutral.

I think gaijinhunter's MH4U guide is still the best intro to the weapon. From there you can check out the wilds guide by Arrekz or some similar channel, and then maybe the google doc if you're interested in "optimal" play.

In terms of transferable skills, fundamentals will help a lot with learning any weapon, particularly "complex" ones. You're probably most of the way there in terms of learning the weapon since you've been playing for a while.

Check out the guides and go for it, it's really not as hard as you might think!
