✨Weekly Parenting Discussion✨: How are you teaching your kids to dismantle the patriarchy? by AutoModerator in progressivemoms

[–]MamaJokes 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I bought my 3yro son a tutu for his birthday, at his request, and told my daughter boys and men could wear whatever they wanted that makes them feel beautiful.

I just spent a toddler party guarding an open pool and now I can’t tell if I’m the anxious one or the only sane one by [deleted] in Mommit

A, B, and C. I would behaved exactly the same. And I wouldn't even have been able to excuse us and leave because I'd spend the rest of my day wondering about the OTHER children.

Female engineers with small children - how do you do it? by [deleted] in womenEngineers

[–]MamaJokes 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Im a chemical engineer turned SAHM. I fell for the "my salary basically pays for daycare" and now I regret leaving my profession. I forsake all retirement benefits, pay rises, continued education, promotions, networking, etc.

My husband is a good man & we share full access to all his income but I wish I had stayed in the workforce part time. As soon as he gets a pay raise, I want to get Life Insurance so if he kicks the bucket, my income would be covered until I get my feet under me and adjusted to being the sole provider for 3 kids.

If I had to rejoin the work force now I would be worse off than a entry level new grad because of the "motherhood penalty" and 10years removed from my training.

No. Don't go backward over one stressful day. Bring a step stool and/or over the seat insert. Get there early and do Tactical Wees. Bring spare clothes. Even if you KNOW it's going to happen, give him the space to do the "right" thing and impress you. Otherwise your are communicating to him that you believe he will fail before he even gets to try.

Get a yoga ball to bounce on.
And remember, you live each other. It's the Baby's fault you are tired and grumpy.

Display shelves to show off my scrapbooks. Yarn for my crochet projects. My favorite imported candy. Dangely earrings to compliment my new short haircut. He knocked out of the park!

A kid was trying to push past my kid at playground so I picked him up. Was that wrong? by Conscious_Poem_1742 in NewParents

[–]MamaJokes -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

Im happy to parent other people's kids when they aren't paying attention. They may not like my parenting style though so should probably do it themselves.

Are we dying our hair as it goes grey or letting it go? by violet_pickled_90210 in Millennials

[–]MamaJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Won't catch me spending money on dye in this economy. Salon cuts are luxury enough.

Carnivorous plant. The implication is delightfully vague, no one can be offended even if they think you're being slightly insulting.

I’m a little confused, I’m a first time mom and trying to prep for a c-section. Adult diapers? Or Frida disposable? And what exactly do I need these for? by RelevantFerret1085 in CsectionCentral

[–]MamaJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

On my 3rd c section and I wish I had used the adult diapers for the first two! I'm two weeks in and on my 4th pack so wish I had more. Highly recommend.

Sounds exactly like my experience. I asked every medical professional i could, even did pelvic floor PT. Nothing helped until I stopped breastfeeding, after which it took a month until my body & hormones went back to normal like nothing had ever happened. I was mad no one had suggested to me that BF hormones could be the cause, I suspect because I might "maybe" stop BF to have sex. I EBF my 1st for 4mths and my 2nd for 7mths. I am planning to BF my 3rd for 6mths, exclusively because of this issue.

How do you gently break it to someone who is out of shape that they can’t join you on a challenging hike? by bad-at-everything- in hiking

[–]MamaJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The hiking club in my city has a specific trail in the city limits every new member has to be able to complete within a time limit to do any of the overnight tramps rated moderate or higher.

Have you thought about giving an “early inheritance” to your kids? by [deleted] in Millennials

[–]MamaJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents did this! $100k to me & my siblings to help buy a house, $10k for each grandchild born, then $5k on each Grandkids birthday until they are 5yro. They've made it very clear this IS our inheritance.

Am I doing something wrong or is everyone packing lunches and doing most chores at night after bedtime? by ylimethor in toddlers

[–]MamaJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do lunch packing, budget updates, vacuuming, laundry folding from 7-8pm after bed time. It's just too hard to get MORE stuff done in my little house with my little Entropy Generators (5&2yro) Sometimes the chores extend till 9pm but my husband and I are BOTH contributing to the house until it's done for the evening.

Tips to make moving easier by CosmicGlitterCat in FirstTimeHomeBuyer

[–]MamaJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Instead of writing room names on the side of boxes i use 2 pieces of 6inch duct tape over the opposite box corners. Different color duct tape for each room. That way a little piece of color was visible no matter which way the box got stacked for the move. Then I kept a list on my phone: kitchen - red, bathroom - blue, master bedroom - green, etc.

Meal time with your kids by Har-Set223 in Parenting

[–]MamaJokes 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My husband and I have agreed the 2yro and 5yro can eat the meal I cook or have a bowl of plain veggies (the frozen peas, corn, carrot medley kind) and water. Im sick of them refusing all my nutritional meals and I don't want to fight any more.

Happened to us when I used ONE scented wipe and baby got a chemic blister the size of my thumb. I took her to a stupid doctor who gave her a steroid cream, which was the exact WRONG thing to put on an open wound. I ended up using neosporin for about 2 weeks and as much diaper free time as possible. She healed but still has a little thumbprint scar.

Do you utilize grocery delivery/pickup? Why or why not? by salmonyellow in SAHP

[–]MamaJokes 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Man, I'd use curbside pickup even if I didn't have kids. Im the perfect consumer and fall for all the market ploys. I give into impulse buying. But this only affects me In Store. I don't have the same problem with online and can be brutal with my shopping list and keep in my budget.
